Arlington’s Urban Villages
Enjoy urban fun plus convenience to 11 Metro stops (David Hills)
Arlington’s
Urban Villages Big city amenities. Small town hospitality. That’s Arlington – a special blend of urban excitement and neighborhood atmosphere. Our urban villages each have their very own unique personality, and each one is full of excellent dining, shops, and everything else that makes Arlington so special. What’s more – you can explore them quickly by just hopping on the Metro! Ballston: A City Within a City Ballston is known as a science and technology hub, and it’s no wonder. The National Science Foundation, Virginia Tech Research Center, and DARPA are all here, just to name a few. However, Ballston’s also home to some great dining and shopping opportunities, as well as several hotels perfect for both business and leisure travel. Don’t miss the Kettler Capitals Iceplex – home of the NHL Washington Capitals! Two rinks provide public ice skating opportunities and the chance to watch the Caps practice in season. Clarendon: Arlington’s Original Urban Village Whether you’re looking for live music, a burger and beer, a romantic evening, or want to shop till you drop, you’ll definitely have no trouble finding these things and more in Clarendon. This urban village is always hopping with activity, whether it’s the shoppers scouring the Market Common Clarendon during the day or revelers taking advantage of Clarendon’s dining and entertainment. 16

Arlington’s Urban Villages Courthouse: Civic Duty, Community Fun As its name suggests, Courthouse is where Arlington County government and judicial offices reside, but there’s a lot of fun happening, too! Courthouse boasts a growing array of restaurants and pubs, a movie theater, and several hotels. Plus, Saturdays, take advantage of the Arlington Farmers Market and Arlington Urban Village Market, where you’ll mingle with locals as you browse wonderful local foods and a variety of crafts and antiques. Crystal City: Bright Lights, Green City Crystal City isn’t just Arlington’s largest downtown, it’s also one of the most environmentally friendly. Many of the offices, residences, and hotels here are LEED certified, and you’ll find the area very pedestrian and bicycle-friendly. Just minutes from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Crystal City features an abundance of fine restaurants, cafes, specialty stores, outdoor movie nights, bike trails, and the award-winning Synetic Theater. Pentagon City: American Treasures and Retail Therapy Home to the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, which honors the 184 people who died there on 9/11, as well as the Air Force Memorial, which commemorates the service and sacrifices of the men and women of the United States Air Force, Pentagon City honors our past. But that’s not all. It’s also the location of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Museum and Visitors Center. And, if a little retail therapy is also on your agenda, you’re in luck. The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, the Pentagon Row shopping and entertainment complex, and Pentagon Centre offer plenty of shopping for all. Rosslyn: Arts, History and Monumental Views Conveniently located right across Key Bridge from Georgetown and offering spectacular views of the D.C. skyline, it’s no wonder so many people pick Rosslyn as their home base when exploring the Capital Region. But take some time to explore this village as well. Rosslyn proudly welcomes visitors to the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima), Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington House – The Robert E. Lee Memorial and the Theodore Roosevelt Island National Memorial. Don’t miss Artisphere, Rosslyn’s unique arts complex that hosts concerts, art exhibits and films, and much more. Shirlington: Arlington’s Arts & Entertainment Your cultural side comes alive with a stay in Shirlington. Home to the Tony Award®-winning Signature Theatre and an eclectic art-house movie theater, the Village of Shirlington’s outdoor promenade and dozens of shops and restaurants are a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Shirlington offers an incredible selection of cuisine, with many restaurants offering outdoor dining in season.
