Arlington’s Urban Villages

Pentagon City and the Pentagon from the George Washington Memorial Parkway

Arlington’s

Urban Villages Are we big? Or are we small? Urban or Main Street? Can you be both? Yes!

A

rlington is urban, exciting, hip and full of energy. But we’re also hospitable, charming, easy and affordable. Our neighborhoods (we call them urban villages) mix soaring high-rises and turn-of-the-century homes, high-end shopping and funky boutiques, five-star dining and neighborhood pizza places. We’re big but accessible, fast but friendly. So Arlington is the best of both worlds!

Ballston: A City Within a City With its thriving mix of offices, residences and retail, Ballston’s lively both by day and by night. A variety of hotels, shopping and dining fit every taste and budget, whether you’re here on a family vacation or a quick business trip. If you’re staying in Ballston, be sure to pack your skating gear – the Kettler Capitals Iceplex is located atop the Ballston Common Mall parking garage and is home of the NHL’s Washington Capitals. Two rinks provide practice space for the Caps and open skating for the rest of us. 14

Clarendon: Arlington’s Original Urban Village Blending nationally-known retailers with funky, one-of-a-kind boutiques and well known favorite restaurants with “only-in-Arlington” eateries, Clarendon hums with activity morning, noon and night. From the popular stores of Market Common Clarendon to a fantastic selection of night spots featuring live music, lounges and dancing, you’ll see why the streets of this tree-lined neighborhood are the subject of “Clarendon envy,” according to The Washington Post.

Arlington’s Urban Villages Pentagon City: A Shopper’s Mecca If you can’t find it in Pentagon City, it probably doesn’t exist. With literally hundreds of stores and restaurants, The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, the Pentagon Row shopping and entertainment complex and Pentagon Centre offer an incomparable shopping experience for all. Pentagon City is also home to two American treasures: the Pentagon Memorial, honoring the 184 people who died there on 9/11, and the Air Force Memorial, commemorating the service and sacrifices of the men and women of the United States Air Force. Visitors can also explore the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Museum and Visitors Center.

The annual Air Force Cycling Classic in Crystal City

Courthouse: The Verdict is Fun The civic center of Arlington, Courthouse is a neighborhood that’s packed with amenities and still growing. Within walking distance of Clarendon and just up the hill from Rosslyn and D.C.’s Georgetown, Courthouse boasts a growing array of restaurants, pubs and lounges, a movie theater and hotels just steps from Metro. On Saturdays, visitors can stroll through the Arlington Farmers Market and Arlington Urban Village Market for fantastic locally produced foods and a variety of crafts and antiques. Crystal City: A Bright Place to Be Bright and vibrant Crystal City, Arlington’s largest downtown, features an abundance of fine restaurants, cafes, specialty stores, outdoor movie nights, bike trails and D.C.’s premier physical theater, Synetic Theater. Home to 15 hotels, most of which are connected to Metro via the Crystal City Shops, Crystal City is adjacent to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and just minutes from downtown Washington. Crystal City is also a green and environmentally-minded area—visitors can feel good about their stay, inside and out.

Rosslyn: Monumental Views With monumental views of Washington, D.C. and its location right across Key Bridge from Georgetown, Rosslyn is a favorite place to stay, eat, shop and meet when visiting the National Capital Area. Just minutes from all the attractions of the nation’s capital and Northern Virginia, Rosslyn proudly welcomes visitors to the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima), Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington House - The Robert E. Lee Memorial and the Theodore Roosevelt Island National Memorial. Nine hotels and numerous restaurants near Metro make Rosslyn an easy choice. Shirlington: Arlington’s Arts and Entertainment District Stay in The Village at Shirlington, and you’ll have the best of food, entertainment and boutiques at your fingertips. Anchored by Tony Award®-winning Signature Theatre, Shirlington’s European-style promenade offers more than 15 shops and 20 restaurants, plus fun night spots and eclectic art-house movies. Spring, summer and early fall also feature renowned outdoor dining. From American to Asian, Indian to Italian and Mediterranean to microbrews, Shirlington has one of the most diverse selections of cuisine you’ll ever find.

ooking for something different – maybe a little edgy? You’re in the right place. Home to over 55 arts organizations, Arlington’s arts scene has been called “a hotbed of cultural abandon” by The Washington Post and described as “…one of the hippest local jurisdictions at attracting adventurous arts and artists.” Arlington is second in the region only to Washington, D.C., in its abundance of arts events, with more than 1,500 annually. Check out Arlington’s galleries and theaters, and you’ll find original works, world-renowned artists and critically acclaimed performances just about any time.
