Early Childhood Education Career Studies Certificate - Level 1
Think you might be interested in working with young children? Early childhood professionals promote cognitive, emotional, and physical development and learning in children. You will learn about health, safety and nutrition of children, growth and development, appropriate child observation and assessment and effective interactions with children. Also, you will become familiar with program management, teacher qualifications and professional development. This program is a pre-requisite for the Advanced Early Childhood Education (Level 2) program.
Program Length 1/2 year (1 semester) Career Opportunities Opportunities are available in Day Care Centers, Pre-Schools, and Head Start.

G3 Eligable This is a G3 eligible program. Virginia residents
who qualify for in-state tuition and whose family income falls below an identified threshold may be eligible for free tuition.
Dr. Winona Fleenor has an extensive teaching career in the social sciences and human services. In addition to teaching, she has community service experience in the field, volunteering in many different capacities and serving on numerous community boards and committees.

YOUR PROGRAM PATHWAY | 1 Semester First Semester (Fall) CHD 120 Introduction to Early Childhood Education 3 CHD 145 Creative Activities for Children 3 CHD 205 Guiding the Behavior of Children 3 EDU 235 Health Safety and Nutritional Education 3 CHD 165 Observation & Participation in Early Childhood Setting 3 SDV 101 Orientation to College Success 1 TOTAL CREDITS 16 Students must complete the Early Childhood Education Career Studies Certificate (Level One) prior to enrollment in the Advanced Early Childhood Education Career Studies Certificate (Level Two) unless the program coordinator grants approval.
