Substance Abuse Counselor Assistant Career Studies Certificate
Assistants to substance abuse counselors help with day-to-day activities, including scheduling and managing appointments, interviewing new patients, and sitting in on appointments to further assist the counselor. This program is designed to meet the educational requirements for the Virginia Certified Substance Abuse Counselor Assistant (CSAC-A) credential. In addition to these courses, students would need to complete a supervised experiential training. The CSAC-A credential is frequently required for employment in drug and alcohol treatment programs and centers.

Dr. Winona Fleenor has an extensive teaching career in the social sciences and in human services. In addition to teaching, she has community service experience in the field, volunteering in many different capacities and serving on numerous community boards and committees.
