The faceted rock forms arising from the ground is textured and staggered to reveal overflowing gardes, soaring trees and forest creepers that punctuate and animate the Village Base. Porous openings recede from its face to reveal greenery-infused garden verandahs that overlook the streets. Hanging gardens along its perimeter allow spill-out activities and AGU while breaking down the scale of the facade, further enlivening the streetscape. The faceted forms are composed of modular precast concrete panels in off-form texured finish with mineral coating in hues reminiscent of the quarry.

The Mies-van-der-rohe-inspired modern proportion and architectural vocabulary provide the possibility to create open and functional paces.
The project also celebrates, promotes the sophitication in daily life experience by adopting the vernacular artisan details. The mechanised wooden screens on the facade were carefully studied and tested drawing the inspiration from the Malay wooden craft culture.
Through the maximization of the contemporary living space and the input of local materiality, the goal was to create a simple yet well-ageing organic tropical building.

Voluntarily Conservation Shophouse
The house, originally constructed in the 1930s as a Shophouse—a common architectural style in South East Asia—was acquired by a young couple with a passion for modern design and vernacular art.
Preserving the traditional essence of the Shophouse while integrating contemporary elements was the shared design vision. This entailed connecting the ‘old’ and ‘new’ by incorporating natural features such as light and water, along with creating an outdoor scene within the shared walls. Additionally, concepts such as double-height volumes, a “secret” mezzanine, bridges, and spiral staircases were introduced to evoke diverse spatial experiences in everyday life.
The narrow site inspired innovative solutions to accommodate modern lifestyles within limited space. Every architecture and construction decision aimed for precision, conciseness, and above all, multifunctionality.
Taking cues from early modern architectural vocabularies, including steel, glass, and industrial craftsmanship, the design drew inspiration from master pieces like the Maison De Verre in Paris. Notably, the use of red-painted steel, initially for fire protection, added a distinctive finishing touch to this humble yet sophisticated dwelling. Physical study model

A former client sought our advises to design a tombstone to honor his beloved late mother. The mother had been fond of garden and horticulture. His father faithfully visited her resting place every weekend ever since she had past away.
In response, we crafted a modest shelter in Carrara white marble with two cut-out religion symbols at both sides to allow sunlight and air. The design symbolized the enduring purity of their familial love. Nestled amidst a serene oasis of grass, it provides a tranquil space for reflection and remembrance.
Professional Proposals 2015-2018 33-42
We were given a set of estabilished drawings for a retirement high-rise project. The brief was to propose a new design adopting the “already designed” layout and keeping majority of the unit number, area calcuation, etc. The instant response to the site and the nature of the retirement housing was to have a panorama view for all the livable space. Hence the new layout and new form emerged.

The other highlight of the proposal is to activate the podium which is a car park at the same time.
The idea is to encourage outdoor activity for the elders by creating a ramp at the perimeter, it serves as a public track inviting the joggers, strollers, and anyone else to the place, from the street level to the top public deck.

The plot was historically inhabited by Indian craftsmen and Chinese traders. The project aimed to enhance the traits of small artisan activities and trading cultures.
The design proposal included renovating the existing historical shophouses, with retails on the ground and residences above, and adding more artists’residencies as a new volume at the back.
Meanwhile, the idea was also to introduce a new co-working and living block at the junction corner as a commerical anchor point.
By juxtapostion of the old houses and the new building, it created new interfaces: the resulting corridors and alley spaces, which enriched the architectural layers of the site.

New Interfaces (Passageway)
New Interfaces (Public Alley)
The new building’s stepped design was intended to lessen the harshness of the urban intersection. Simultaneously, it offered a chance to incorporate outdoor green spaces on the basis of maximizing the functional areas that the plot could offer.

Facade Concept Design
Situated along the main highway into the city, the former furniture factory, now warehouse and showroom was in need of an immediate renovation to attract more and younger customers in the region.
Learning from Las Vagas, I envisioned the 190 meter long rectangular volume itself as the best billboard. The corrugated aluminum panels sourced from the neighboring factory encapsuate the surface, leaving only the necessary horizontal windows and entrances as transparence to punctuate the long gesture. It is pure functional. Yet to give it a relaxing touch,I played with the brand’s logo on the facade, as the sculptural structures for the arrival and ground floor. The alphabets displayed on the windows are the direct advertisement stand for the names of furniture, such as ‘chair’, ‘table’, and so on. They can be both English or Chinese characters.
Images to demonstrate the integral system of the partition & display module and its multi-functionality
Tetris: Integral System, Partition/Dispaly module
The client owns a traditional wooden furniture manufactoring line, was looking for a rebrand to manifest their speciality and pave the path to a modern market, and the mobility in trade show and pop-up stores.
I took advantage of the client’s wood craftsmanship, developed the Tetris idea from the layout design, and applied it to an integral system vertically as a multi-functional partition, and display device. They can be a single module, can be assembled to have a larger surface, and dismantled easily. The electricity, piping service can be embodied in the system as well.
Existing condition
The existing layout has a long corridor in the middle and the rooms at both sides. It was planned mainly for catering office function. As a showroom, it would block the sun light in most of the days throughout the year, and the linear long walk didn’t benefit the users.

Tetris: Showroom Layout Design
The challenge was to create a pleasant visit path in this long space, and accomodate enough showrooms as per client requested.
I started with the single area which was suitable for showcasing a bed, a dinning table, or a simple bedroom configuration.
I then spreaded the basic units all over the area, lumped them together to form a cluster imitating a proper housing unit.
As the pink dots shown in the plan, the guideline of placement was the entry staircase in the middle, the direction to the office at the right, and another entrance to a bigger warehouse at the left.
Thus, like a Tetris game, the units form an organic group, in between them, a more sinuous and interesting visit path emerged.
The project was to propose a new architecture faculty with student amenities in the campus of University Technology Malaysia(UTM) in the capital city of the country: Kuala Lumpur. I was inspired by the dynamic and organic energy of the site where different classes and races were mixed and showed an excellent harmony.
Thus, I envisioned the project to be a place with vibrant, multi-functional learning environment sprawling from the urban ground to the sky level. The concept of ‘Urban Microcosm’ was drawn from the “chaotic” city life of Kuala Lumpur and the context of the neigborhood which is full of cultural events and night life activities.
The design started by analyzing and capturing the physical urban traits from Kuala Lumpur city and the similar high-density metropolises in Asia such as Hong Kong and Tokyo.
In those cities, there are: dense area and void; hardscape and green space; node and plaza; gap space such as alley. To introduce such an analogue of the urban language into a single structure aimed to encourage the multi-facated interactivity within the campus, and with the city. It also to add anohter acceleration to the the rich engine of Kuala Lumpur.
At the south of the UTM campus, there was a group of taller buildings to anticipate the city centre tower-scape. A new proposed high-rise at the North corner opened the new possibility for the site.

SOS Children Village is a non-government organization works to build communities and families for children in need, normally are the children without parental care, or who live in a poor living condition and orphans.
The program is situated in a rectangular compound in the town of Taiping village. It comprises the children housing with the amenities, administration buildings, library and a training center.
The concept is to design a friendly village that has strong interconnections among blocks. It started by the simple function-space configuration from the individual housing. The plan aims to achieve a fluid yet congregate envrionment to encourage the communications yet to keep the privacy.
The chamfered building footprints blended with the landscape in the compound to introduce a soft and easy envrionment.
The massing is driven largely from the plan that is assembled to create the “fun” factor, yet respond to the tropical climate.
