PUERTO MALDONADO Madre de Dios’s Department being their capital Puerto Maldonado is formed mainly by alluvial plains of three and up to four levels of terraces. The lowest are subjected to annual floods and they are generally marshy. The City of Puerto Maldonado has a warm and very rainy climate during the whole year. This program includes some of the most important attractions in the forest from near Tambopata to the river Madre de Dios. Attractiveness: Walk for amazon trail inside the housing and trip to the Island Rolín. Day 1:  Welcome and transfer of the airport to the city of Puerto Maldonado.  Visits to the market of the city of Puerto Maldonado, possibility to buy fruits like Chestnut, Aguaje, Pacae, Cocona, Marañón (Cashew nut fruit), Caimito, among other typical varieties, and local craft made with seeds of the region.  Preparation for the trip and transfer to the Port of the river Madre de Dios.  Embark in boat with motor outside of overboard, traveling laughs below approximately 45 minutes. During the trip they have the possibility to sight caymen, birds and amazon native flora.  We arrive in AMAZON RESERVATION, located in the left riverbank of the river Madre de Dios.  Welcome and explanation has more than enough INKATERRA, the housing, its rules, schedules, the architecture and general recommendations during its demurrage.  Surrenders of their cabin. One will be able to appreciate impressive trees as the Ceiba, the Shihuahuaco, the Ficus strangler, the Capirona, among others. Explanation on the fragility of the fauna and flora of the forest, and conservation methods used by AMAZON RESERVATION. 

Rolín Island. Trip in boat toward the Rolín Island, Rescue fauna Center , located to the front of the housing. We disembark in the Island and walk of 10 minutes for the forest to go into to an ecosystem with important biodiversity of birds like blue (bueyera and of snow), Pauraque, Caracara, Hawks, Gallinazos, and other small birds that use this habitat to nest. Also, some reptiles, mammals and amphibians.

In that activity they will appreciate the rescue project and reintroduction of primates, as the Limit (Alouatta seniculus), the white Machín (Zebus albifrons), the black

Machín (Zebus apella), the Maquisapa (Ties them paniscus) and the Pichico (Saguinus fuscicollis). Observation of caymen in river at night or Night Walk. At night, walk of one hour for the bank of the river in search of the most important reptile in the amazonía: the Cayman, the biggest Amazon depredador. Explanation of their behavior, distribution and sociology. Possibility to appreciate the biggest rodent in the world: the Capibara, or ronsoco, while they pastures in the bank of the river. The housing has appropriate team of illumination for this activity. In season of rains, or when the waters of the river are very high, the activity will be able to be replaced by a Night Walk by one from the adjacent trails to the housing. In this activity you learns how to interpret the sounds of the forest during the night, possibility to observe night animals (butterflies, tarantulas, armadillos (Dasypus sp.), Ocelot, among other) with the help of lanterns. Day 2:  Breakfast Tropical style buffet in the dining room.  We return to the city of Puerto Maldonado. Transfer to the airport and farewell.

Day 2:  Tropical Buffet Breakfast in the dining room.  Sandoval Lake. Voyage of 20 minutes for the river Mdre de Dios, river up, in boat with motor outside of overboard, toward their right margin. Walk of approximately one hour through the forest. During the itinerary of 3 km. one will be able to appreciate diversity of plants and big trees, some batrachians and reptiles, a diversity of birds, and the dancing about of multicolored butterflies. At the end of the trail, shipment in a boat of oars to slip for a channel through aguajales toward the magnificent and spectacular Lake Sandoval, the most attractive in the National Reservation of Tambopata.  This lake offers an extraordinary landscape of calmed waters, surrounded by palms of the aguaje and other trees of primary forest. During the walk it is possible to observe the rich flora and fauna of the place: river wolves. species in extinction -, caymen, turtles of water, primates like the black and white Machín, howling monkeys, and amazon birds": Hoatzin" or" Shansho" (prehistoric bird), macaws, parrots, rayadores, blue, among others. Possibility to take a bath in the lake.  Fitzcarrald Ship.We return to the river Madre de Dios to approach the boat and to navigate 5 minutes, and after a small walk for the humid forest through cultivations of cocoa, coffee and other plants to discover the famous Ship Fitzcarrald, aground inland for many years and covered with vegetation.

  

This ship was used in the past as itinerant hospital for help to the native communities, and it inspired the movie Fitzcarraldo that won the Palm of Gold in Cannes, France, 1982. Trip of 15 minutes for boat toward a near chacra where one will be able to observe the lifestyle of the comuneros, the typical constructions of the chacras and their different varieties of amazon cultivations: cane of sugar, platanales, yucca, coconas, cocoa, among others. Possibility of degustar typical fruits as the sapote, annona, pacae, carom, cocona, papaya, banana, marañón or cashu and files. Rolín Island. Day 2:

Breakfast, tropical style buffet in the dining room. Broken Gamitana. Exit in traditional boat with small motor called by the villagers" sin-sins" in a trip river under 30 minutes to observe the beautiful and even virgin gulch of Gamitana, located in the Ecological Reservation INKATERRA (10,000 hectares). In this place one will be able to see birds, monkeys, lizards, nests of eggs of turtles (among April and November that it is their reproduction time), dwarf cayman, among other species. You continuous the trip toward Loboyoc, flowing of Gamitana and important aguajales system where will be able to be great diversity of not very common aquatic fauna. Arriving to Loboyoc, a lunch lonchera will be served in the boat. you will take a rest of 15 minutes to continue with the observation of the ecosystem. Of exit of Gamitana possibility of carrying out fishing with having lined and bars in a local handmade way. Concluding the activity of fishing return to the housing. Native Chacra. SANDOVAL LAKE LODGE Located inside the national Reservation Tambopata (Port Maldonado), to 25 minutes river under the Mother of God. The Sandoval Lake Lodge is located in one of the most beautiful lakes in the Forest of the Tambopata and maybe of the whole Peru. For their proximity to Cuzco (Single 30 minutes of flight) it is the best combination to their visit to the capital of the Inca Empire. The Sandoval Lake Lodge has twenty-five double rooms, skillful with water you heat and a roomy dining room with a panoramic view of the lake. The housing was built with ecological wood, that that transports the river then, that is to say, he/she has not intersected trees expressly to obtain the wood. For a complete vision of the Forest we recommend the program 03 Días/02 nights although it is also possible to make a visit of 02 Días/01 night. If it interests him to visit a Collpa of Macaws we recommend him to give glance to our special itinerary. BM76: SANDOVAL LAKE LODGE SPECIAL PROGRAM 3 DAYS / 2 NIGHTS Daily exits Day 01 Transfer from the Port Maldonado airport toward the port located in the River Madre de Dios. During the road a brief visit of the city will be made. After 25 minutes of trip for the River Madre de Dios you arrives to the beginning of a trail for which a walk will be made from 25 to 30 minutes. Then you will arrive to a small channel where a canoe will be approached that will drive to the visitors during some minutes of trip toward the Sandoval Lake. The view that one has is impressive and very beautiful. There the visitors will approach a catamaran that will take them toward the Sandoval Lake Lodge. After the lunch, and brief rest, the Catamaran will be approached to visit the part West of the Lake. At dusk the macaws arrive to this area to spend the night or to remain in their nests. Return to the housing to dinner. At night it will be approached the canoes to go in search and to admire the Black


Cayman. If there are moon and the sky this clear one it is possible to navigate for the lake with a wonderful view. Day 02 Very early in the morning, call of waking up to visit the Lake. One will be able to observe the birds that leave in food search, and with some luck, to river wolves fishing. As this species this is known in extinction danger. In the morning first hours it is the best moment to see fauna and to obtain very good photographic takings. It is worthwhile to comment that during the half-day, for the reining heat, the birds prefer to be to the shade and the visitors cannot be observed a lot. Return to the housing, breakfast and later , a demonstration like the native ones gather, they open up and they market the Nuts of Brazil, a very important product inside the economy of the area. After the lunch, time to rest and to get ready to visit the lake where one will be able to appreciate an or more than the five species of monkeys that they live in the area highlighting the CapuchĂ­n.

Return to the housing, dinner, being requested by the visitors you can make a new visit to the Lake to see Black Caymen or to make a walk through primary Forest and to listen the night sounds of the Forest. Day 03 After the breakfast left toward the River Madre de Dios to approach the canoe that will transport the visitors toward Puerto Maldonado and of there they will be transferred to the airport to approach the itinerary flight going to Lima or Cuzco. Operator: Inkanatura BM 77: SANDOVAL LAKE LODGE SPECIAL PROGRAM 4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS Day 01 Reception and transfer from the Puerto Maldonado airport toward the port located in the River Madre de Dios. Here we approach a motor boat to make approximately a trip of 4 and a half hours until arriving to the Heath River Wildlife Center. During the itinerary we will navigate for the river Madre de Dios in direction to the frontier of Peru with Bolivia. It is important to highlight that during the itinerary it was appreciated that 75% of the riveras of the rivers is covered for primary forest this contrasts with the trip, we laugh up in the river Tambopata where 15% is primary forest and the rest they are lands dedicated to the agriculture or other activities. When arriving at the river Heath, the natural frontier between Peru and Bolivia, we will change boats to some smaller ones to go to the Heath River Wildlife Center, housing whose only owners are the community That Eja of the area, This, by the way, is the only housing where the native community is owner of 100% of the housing. During the itinerary we will grant a delicious lunch cold. PLEASE DONT FORGET IT IS IMPORTANT TO TAKE THE PASSPORT FOR THIS TRIP. In the afternoon our hosts, the native of the community Ese Eja, they will take us to explore the forest of the surroundings of the housing and to look for the different species of monkeys and hundred of species of birds that they inhabit that paradisiac place. After the dinner we will explore the forest with our lanterns, including a visit to the small collpa where diverse mammals go to eat the mud that has diverse properties for their diets.


Day 02 Early in the morning we will approach our canoe to navigate up in river in the Heath going to an interesting collpa of parrots and Macaws. The trip can last between 45 minutes and one hour. Generally during the itinerary you can appreciate birds and to an or two families of Capibaras in the banks of the river. The capibaras is the biggest and photogenic rodents in the world and giant relatives of the guinea pig. They end up weighing about 55 kilograms approximately.

To observe the collpa we have a floating hiding place specially designed for this end. In the hiding place will offer breakfast while we admire the natural show that begins with the arrival of the small parrots of color green esmerald and electric blue, later on the big macaws they arrived those of burning red and green color. The birds arrive to the collpa to feed of the clay. In some years all the collpas of macaws and parrots of the south Peru are less active in the months of May, June and Julio's first days. It is important to keep in mind this detail if you are specially interested in photographing these birds. After the beautiful exhibition, we will return to the housing to pick up our suitcases and to begin our trip toward the Sandoval Lake Lodge, housing located beside the Sandoval lake considered by the forest specialists like some of the most beautiful lakes and attractiveness of the Peruvian forest. A cold lunch is included for the journey. After the trip in boat for the river Heath in the first place and then the Madre de Dios, we will arrive to the beginning of a trail for which a walk of 45 minutes will be made toward a narrow channel where we will approach a small canoe that will drive us toward the Sandoval Lake. After admiring the beautiful of the lake, a catamaran was approached that will drive us toward the Sandoval Lake Lodge. In the itinerary we will observe the famous aguajales with palms where specially at dusk the macaws arrive to spend the night or to remain in their nests. At night we dinner and we will rest in our comfortable rooms with view to the lake. Day 03 Early in the morning we will wake up to visit the Sandoval Lake. One will be able to observe the birds that leave in food search, and with some luck, to a family of 9 river wolves. As this species this is known in extinction danger. In the morning first hours it is, without a doubt, the best moment to see the fauna and to obtain good photographic takings of the wolves in search of the fish, their main food. We return to the housing to have breakfast and for those with energy will walk for the trails explaining on the characteristics of the forest and medicinal uses of some plants of the place. After the lunch, brief time to rest and to get ready to visit the part of the lake where we will appreciate an or more than the five species of monkeys that they live in the area highlighting the Monkey CapuchĂ­n. Return to the housing to dinner and, later on a new visit to the Lake to see the Black caymen, wellknown as the strangest in the AmazonĂ­a.

Day 04


After the breakfast we will leave toward the airport to approach the itinerary flight going to the city of Lima or Cuzco. Operator: Inkanatura

BM78: HEATH RIVER WILDLIFE CENTER SPECIAL PROGRAM 05 DAYS / 04 NIGHTS WITH COLLPA OF MACAWS Daily exits Day 01 Reception and transfer from the airport of Puerto Maldonado to port located in the River Madre de Dios. Here we approach a boat to motor to make approximately a trip of 04 and a half hours, until arriving to the Heath River Wildlife Center. During the itinerary we will navigate for the river Madre de Dios with address to the frontier of Peru with Bolivia. After the dinner we will explore the forest with our lanterns, including a visit to the small collpa where diverse mammals go to eat the mud that has diverse properties for their diets. Day 02 Early in the morning we will approach our canoe to navigate up in river in the Heath going to an interesting collpa of parrots and Macaws. The trip can last between 45 minutes and one hour. Generally during the itinerary you can appreciate birds and to an or two families of Capibaras in the banks of the river. The capibaras is the biggest and photogenic rodents in the world and giant relatives of the guinea pig. They end up weighing about 55 kilograms approximately. To observe the collpa we have a floating hiding place specially designed for this end. In the hiding place will offer breakfast while we admire the natural show that begins with the arrival of the small parrots of color green emerald and electric blue, later on the big macaws they arrived those of burning red and green color. In the morning first hours it is, without a doubt, the best moment to see fauna and to obtain good photographic takings of the wolves in search of the fish, their main food. We return to the housing to have breakfast and for those with energy will walk for the trails explaining on the characteristics of the forest and medicinal uses of some plants of the place. After the lunch, brief time to rest and to get ready to visit the part This of the lake where we will appreciate an or more than the five species of monkeys that you/they live in the area highlighting the Monkey CapuchĂ­n. We return to the housing to Have dinner and, later on a new visit to the Lake to see the Black caymen, well-known as the strangest in the AmazonĂ­a.
