Lima Lima, known as “The City of Kings”, is a bustling metropolis with a mixture of colonial houses and modern buildings, beautiful parks and bohemian bars. Lima’s historic center was declared World Heritage by UNESCO in1988 because of the many historic buildings dating from Spanish colonial times as the monumental Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral, the Presidential Palace and the catacombs of the Convent of San Francisco. San Isidro is an elegant neighborhood where most embassies have their offices. Miraflores, primarily a commercial area, is the district where you will find most of the hotels and restaurants. Lima is known as the gastronomic capital of the Americas with its Creole cuisine (Peruvian food), Cebicherias (seafood) and its emblematic drink: Pisco Sour. Typical food: Ceviche, Anticuchos (beef heart in pieces), Aji deGallina (spicy dish based poll, nuts, milk), Parihuela (seafood soup), Carapulcra (dried potatoes, chicken casserole and pork), Cau-Cau (intestine stew and spicy potatoes), Lomo Saltado (beef sautéed with onions, tomatoes, served with rice and fries). In this section we recommend our favorite restaurants and bars in the capital of Peru.
