WELCOME Dear Friends of the Castro Street Fair It’s been almost a decade since I was invited to be a board member of the Castro Street Fair. My job was to assist with revamping the look and feel of the Fair, the entertainment stages and streamlining stage production. Most of what had been happening for the many years before I came along was great. I felt lucky to be around so many creative and passionate people involved in making the fair fun. The fundraising efforts were thoughtful and implemented well, so my job was easy. One improvement I wanted to make was the presence at the 18th Street stage. Previous producers had tried a number of things, from contests to Hip-Hop to dance performances, without getting much traction. The challenge is always that we do not have a big budget to pay for entertainers. The money we raise at the gates goes to our beneficiaries, so many favors are called in to keep our stages entertaining. Most artists love the Fair so much that they share their art with us freely, and we are so grateful. Many performers returned year after year, updating their acts and fine tuning their art. The most incredible of these artists was my sweet friend, Cookie Dough, with the help of her partner, MC2. I only had to share with her the theme and she would round up an army of wild drag kings and queens to invade our Market Street Stage (and most of the backstage area) with her wacky Monster Show performers. They would paint the stage with a carnival of lip-synced stories, nostalgic music and dance. She was a true professional and always made my life so easy leading up to and during the Fair. The one thing I remember most about Cookie Dough was her optimistic attitude. She always had something nice to say about everyone and everything. Cookie had a knack for brushing off the stress of the day with an “Oh well!” followed by a corny joke. This was a rare trait amongst us gays and most definitely amongst her harem of strong drag queens. I miss this the most about her. About five years ago we decided to move Cookie’s Monster Show spectacle closer to its weekly home bar, the Edge. The 18th Street Stage had been growing year after year with the introduction of gay indie and punk bands, as well as legendary DJs. Cookie Dough loved this idea and the new location was an immediate success, rivaling the Market Street Stage in popularity. This year we dedicate the Fair, and especially the 18th Street Stage, to our beloved friend, Cookie Dough. We celebrate her work with performances on every stage in wigs and drag. We also have added a second tee shirt this year with photo art by photographer, Jose A Guzman Colon. Be sure to stop by our Info and Merch Booth to get yours! Please “Wig Out” with us this year to show how much we love and miss our very own drag superstar, Cookie Dough. Your Friend,

Juan Garcia

MAIN STAGE EMCEE: HONEY MAHOGANY

Honey Mahogany is an international drag performer and budding recording artist. The currently reigning Miss Blow Up USA initially gained worldwide fame as a cast member on Season 5 of the reality television show and cult phenomenon, RuPaul’s Drag Race. She has since made appearances on America’s Got Talent, The X-Factor, The NewNowNext Awards, and HBO’s Looking. Honey is a prolific performer and popular MC. Her emceeing chops include Topsy Turvy: A Queer Circus Extravaganza, The Castro Street Fair, numerous drag and burlesque shows throughout the Bay Area, and her own weekly drag show in The Castro called Mahogany Mondays at the Midnight Sun. itshoney.com

CHEER SF

Since 1980, CHEER San Francisco® has been thrilling crowds locally, nationally and internationally with its unique brand of high-energy routines. This all-volunteer group is dedicated not only to providing polished professional entertainment, but also to the philanthropic mission of the squad, serving as true ambassadors of good will to the communities in which they perform. cheersf.org

SAN FRANCISCO LESBIAN GAY FREEDOM BAND

The SFLGFB was founded by Jon Reed Sims in 1978 as the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Marching Band and Twirling Corps. Sims, born in Smith Center, Kansas, was a musician and performer who formed the band in response to Anita Bryant‘s anti-gay campaign in the late 1970s. Upon its founding in 1978, it became the first openly-gay musical group in the world. In successive years, Sims created the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, the Lesbian/Gay Chorus of San Francisco and the Lambda Pro Musica orchestra.

MUÑECAS

Muñecas is a band from San Francisco that mixes punk rock and dark wave musical styles with postcolonial drag, responding to their experiences as queer, and their cultural heritage as mixed Chican@s. They are frequent performers at local music venues such as SF Eagle, SF Oasis, The Folsom Street Fair, El Rio, Club Some Thing, Monster Show and have opened for such acts as Pansy Division, Torche and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult. The average Muñecas show is often equal parts music performance as it is drag. They don’t wear those outfits for nothing! Their songs range from stories about race and gender, to cautionary tales of boundaries, and even songs about fantasy realms, gods and monsters.

THE WHOA NELLIES!

The Whoa Nellies are Leigh Crow, Peter Fogel, Tim Perdue, Kevin Kirkbride, John Ashfield, Mark Smotroff and Ruby Vixxen. They are psychedelic time travelers singing songs about peace and love from the flower power era. They take pride in reviving bubblegum pop, groovy one-hit wonder radio hits, show tunes from Hair and British Invasion chart toppers with a pinch of California country.

THE ETHEL MERMAN EXPERIENCE

The Ethel Merman Experience is pleased and honored to once again be part of the Castro Street Fair! EMX has appeared on the CSF Mainstage several times over the years and as the Wizard’s Dorothy so aptly put it, “There’s no place like home.” The band is comprised of Mark Sargent channeling “the Merm,” Le Greguar MERMAN

on guitar, Kelly “Killer” Naughon on bass and Boom Boom Bow Wow on drums. Rock n’ roll has never been the same since this Broadway diva took to belting out hits from Nirvana, Alice Cooper, Blondie, Lady Gaga and The Runaways to name a few. A rockin’ good time is guaranteed for all!

SUPER SQUARE

Igniting dance floors with hardcore, club-rocking tracks, Super Square brings their expressive melodies and pop savvy hooks to the EDM scene. This trio consisting of DJ Jimmy Hits, producer A_Rival, and vocalist Helen Eugene was originally created by Ben Lavee (Monster Energy resident DJ) as a way to bring new artistry to the prototypical DJ set. Their off-beat creativity and exceptional musical backgrounds allow them to produce their own music, write and perform their own lyrics, and choreograph their own live performances. From headlining Los Angeles’s most prestigious EDM club to exploding onto the Billboard Top Dance Music Chart, Super Square is setting out to forever change the nightclub experience around the world. supersquaremusic.com MUÑECAS

MYSTIC RAY

DJ Mystic Ray is known for his take on Bay Area ghetto sensibility, Afro-centric, erotic, deep space baseline groove soul, acid-jazz, funkadelica, acid-house, and punk rock musica. Spinning hot beats comes naturally to DJ Mystic Ray, as he thoughtfully chooses each song and artfully blends them together to produce decadent playlists. DJ Mystic Ray feels fortunate to live in this digital era, allowing him to take the best of old school turntable techniques and sounds and thread them harmoniously into the best of digital technology and musical production.

LADY KRAFT

Lady Kraft (AKA Adam Kraft) is the cyber-diva vocal lip-syncing alter ego of Bay Area native DJ Adam Kraft. Kraft’s bass-heavy multidimensional sound is a fusion of UK bass, New York house and Berlin techno. S/he’s played with the likes of Bicep, Mike Q, Christian Martin, Headman, BlackStrobe, Cakes Da Killa, Nicky Da B, Sissy Nobby, along with the best underground club DJs in New York and London. AMBROSIA SALAD

She is the mother of the House of Salad, a party commune of artists, drag queens, musicians and freaks. After becoming a staple in the nightlife scene and collaborating with many photographers, filmmakers, and promoters, Ambrosia moved to LA in 2013. She has DJ’ed at clubs and festivals all over the country. Currently she is part of a documentary being made about the underground nightlife scene in Los Angeles. She continues to incorporate her love of music, fashion, photography and film in everything she does.

EMCEES: SUE CASA AND SUGAH BETES

Sue Casa is best described as the village idiot. With an amazing ability to paint the same exact face every time and wear the same exact wig, her look is well recognizable. She is a hostess of the weekly Monster Show at the Edge Bar, and Miss Trannyshack 2013. Sugah Betes is an anachronism with a twist. An old soul covered in colorful makeup, sequins, vintage gowns and petticoats too wide to fit through doorways. She believes that if you’re going to put on makeup, you should put on all of the colors and she’s never met a blending brush. Currently she is a hostess of the weekly Monster Show at the Edge Bar.

DJ MC2

[

PLAYS BETWEEN SETS

]

DJ MC2 was born with a tone-arm and a love for dance music. DJ MC2 has established himself as a major player in the club scene, playing to packed dance floors throughout SF, as well as captivating large crowds with sets at California’s Great America (Pride Night: Memorial Weekend 2013), Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, and Castro Street Fair. By cultivating the perfect energy with foot-stompin’, head-boppin’, body-rockin’ party beats, his audience can’t help but move their feet!

AVENUE Q

Avenue Q is the Tony Award-winning, laugh-out-loud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. Once there, he meets Kate (the girl next door), Rod (the Republican), Trekkie (the internet sexpert), Lucy the Slut (need we say more?), and other colorful types who help Princeton finally discover his purpose in life! nctcsf.org

BALONEY San Francisco’s first and only gay all-male revue is back by popular demand with a brand-new show for Castro Street Fair. Inspired by vintage male erotica, this all-new show features kinky, provocative male striptease with story and substance. BALONEY is part theater, part peep show, and all male! Created by real-life couple and Bay Area favorites Rory Davis (choreographer: Avenue Q, Peaches Christ Productions) and Michael Phillis (director/host: Mini Supreme, Wunderworld, Wish We Were Here).

D’ARCY DROLLINGER AND SEXITUDE

EJECTOR

Voted “Best Local Band” by the San Francisco Bay Guardian’s “Best Of The Bay 2010 Reader’s Poll,” EJECTOR returns to the Castro Street Fair for a very special Tribute to Cookie Dough. Along with three of Cookie’s favorite tracks, the electronic glam-pop duo will be premiering a brand new track, with their favorite dancers in tow. Born from the love and support of Cookie’s Monster Show in 2007, the band is honored to return to celebrate with the city they love, beautiful friends, and revel in the joy and love that is Cookie Dough. MONSTER SHOW

Monster Show, founded by the beloved Cookie Dough and DJ MC2, continues every Thursday at the Edge Bar and every third Saturday at Bootie (DNA Lounge) with hostesses Sue Casa, Sugah Betes, and cofounder DJ MC2 on the decks. A mix of punk rock aesthetics, pop music, and musical theater madness, the award winning show and club party is a true staple of San Francisco, running for 11 years.

WORTHLESS

Worthless was created in 2013 by Brett Wiley. After moving to San Francisco, he found it very challenging to find people with the same drive and lust for live music. So he gave birth to his first solo project (Worthless). Being a gay man with HIV, he feels he owes it to his brothers to use his platforms to reach awareness. Worthless is a pop act that uses a punk background and gay lifestyle to make a new raw sound. Worthless is all about being everything but worthless. DROLLINGER
