FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR Dear Friends, Happy Pride Weekend! Each of us can track our own musical life journey with the music of a boy band or two and the heartthrobs in them. Many of us even had their posters on our bedroom walls! None of them, however, had the 250+ heart-throbbers you’ll get tonight on stage. Get ready for the biggest boy band the world has ever seen - the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus! We have had so much fun putting together a show that spans six decades - from the 1960s to today. Wait, there’s more! In the second half, you’ll get to experience the program we are taking to the quadrennial Gay and Lesbian Choral Festival (GALA) in Denver in less than two weeks! We’ve chosen the “best of the best” of SFGMC. All four of our vocal ensembles continue with the boy band theme, and then the full Chorus will blow your mind with a variety of music. We are absolutely thrilled that you are here with us. You’ll be singing along all the way! Thanks for all of your support of everything the Chorus does. You’re truly part of our family. Yours,

Dr. Timothy Seelig Artistic Director

SFGMC For nearly forty years, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus (SFGMC) has served as an international standard-bearer for a powerful mix of extraordinary musical excellence and mission-driven activism. Founded in 1978, it was the first choral organization to courageously proclaim its orientation in its name and is credited with helping start the LGBT choral movement that now spans the entire globe, galvanizing and changing the course of LGBT history. It continues to inspire other arts-based community organizations through its performances and involvement in human rights, community activism, empowerment and inclusiveness, establishing it as an icon among LGBT organizations. The Chorus was founded in October 1978. Its first public appearance was only a month later, on the steps of City Hall at the candlelight vigil following the assassinations of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk. Supervisor Milk was the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in California and one of the most high-profile in the world at that time. In 1981, SFGMC embarked on a national tour, performing in nine cities: Dallas, Minneapolis, Lincoln, Detroit, New York City, Boston, Washington DC and Seattle helping many of these cities launch their own LGBT choruses. The Chorus now has over 275 singers in the large chorus and four outreach vocal ensembles. The award-winning Chorus has been heard by millions worldwide and is seen as one of the crown jewels of San Francisco arts organizations. Under the current leadership of Artistic Director Dr. Timothy Seelig, SFGMC has established a heightened level of performance standards receiving wide international acclaim, increased its touring and recording profile and broadened its impact and reputation in the community while maintaining its signature blend of humor, personality and high-voltage performances. The chorus has a phenomenal record of commissioning works from major composers spanning the entire gamut of styles and genres, from Stephen Schwartz to John Corigliano.

We are grateful to the SFGMC Divas, a group of Chorus members and supporters who produce an annual "Dragathon" crowdfunding event, which raises funds for our Financial Aid Network (FAN). FAN assistance helps to subsidize dues and other member expenses for Chorus members who would not otherwise be able to participate. Dragathon 2016 raised over $60,000 from 570+ donors. Space limitations preclude our listing them by name, but we deeply appreciate all of these contributors. Well-Strung is graciously and generously underwritten by Joseph Czuberki. The preceding lists donors from January 1, 2015 to June 1, 2016. The Chorus is grateful for all gifts received, including the ones under $100 that are too numerous to list.
