FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT Greetings and welcome to the 44th Annual SF LGBT Pride Celebration and Parade! Whether you’re participating as a Bay Area resident or visiting from abroad, you’re sure to have a wonderful week with us as we Color Our World With Pride. SF Pride Members chose the above theme late last summer and our dedicated Board of Directors has been working diligently to reflect the theme in our social mission: “… to educate the world, commemorate our heritage, celebrate our culture, and liberate our people.” While our award-winning and diverse Celebration is one of the largest LGBT events in the world, it’s also a platform to support LGBT people globally who, in the last year, have faced some of the most archaic and discriminatory, state-sanctioned laws in our history. Anti-LGBT legislation spurring mob violence from Uganda, Nigeria, and Cameroon, to India, Russia and the Middle East are a call to action to expose hate and its source. Often that source is in our own backyard, as is the case with the public’s choice for this year’s Pink Brick Award, Scott Lively. As president of California–based Abiding Truth Ministries, a conservative Christian organization, his tentacles reach from Latvia to Kampala in stirring antiLGBT sentiment and laws. On a brighter note, this year’s community grand marshals, honorees, and main stage speakers represent a culturally rich fabric of pioneers, activists, artists, educators, and freedom fighters. From a 16-year-old transgender student who was bullied and chose to fight back to a seasoned LGBT activist championing housing as a human right, these leaders inspire us to get involved. The public’s choice of Trans March as the Organizational Grand Marshal reflects a positive trend to elevate advocacy for the most discriminated among us. Our two-day Celebration at Civic Center features 20+ community-run stages and venues, along with 300 exhibitor booths. Visit sfpride.org frequently for a full Calendar of Events, tickets for the Parade Grandstand and VIP Party at City Hall, links to purchase merchandise, the Parade line up, and more. SF Pride has grown to be a complex, $2 million budget event that draws 1.5 million participants. We remind you that we’re a nonprofit organization dependent on thousands of volunteers and YOUR support provided from gate donations, sales of beverages, and official SF Pride souvenirs. A $5 to $10 donation at the gate provides $1 off all drinks and supports 60 local organizations. Thank you to our SF Pride members, staff, board, contractors, sponsors, volunteers and all stakeholders for this labor of love. It’s time to strike up the band, rev your engines, and Color Our World With Pride!

FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR On behalf of the staff, contractors, Board of Directors, all of our community stage producers, our amazing volunteers, and the membership of SF Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Pride Celebration Committee, I would like to welcome you to the 2014 SF Pride Parade and Celebration. As the incoming Executive Director it has been my distinct honor to join the ranks of this outstanding group of individuals who bring you the largest Pride celebration in the United States. SF Pride is fortunate to have such depth of experience and commitment from everyone involved in our 44th annual event. From former board members, to former executive directors, to former grand marshals, to longtime staff, volunteers and community organizers – our team is made up of a wealth of collective knowledge that is critical to our success. It is their collaborative efforts that year-after-year produce such a spectacular event. As we prepare to celebrate our victories and address our ongoing challenges at this year’s SF Pride, I would also like to thank our exhibitors, donors, long-standing sponsors, and new partners who have joined us in 2014 – your support is another essential component to our success. Please support our Community Partners, and our mission, by donating at the entry gates and by having a libation from one of our many official beverage locations. FROM THE GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA

OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR June 1, 2014 LGBT Pride

Welcome and best wishes to those gathered for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Celebrations throughout California this summer. Last June, in Hollingsworth v. Perry and United States v. Windsor, the United States Supreme Court made decisions upholding the findings of lower courts that state and federal laws limiting the marriage rights of LGBT Americans are unconstitutional. The outcomes of these important cases, which effectively legalized same-sex marriage in California and many other states, represent the progress our society has made in extending the full rights of citizenship to all Americans. Pride brings together the LGBT community and allies in the spirit of solidarity and demonstrates to the world that the rich diversity of the Golden State is the source of our greatest strengths. LGBT Pride also highlights the significant leadership role that the LGBT community has taken in the struggle for the full equality of every person in our society. As we celebrate the great strides we are making, we should contemplate the importance of treating all people fairly and equally, so that all may live with dignity and pride. I commend your significant efforts in this regard and offer my continued support. Sincerely,

EDMUND G. BROWN JR. GOVERNOR EDMUND G. BROWN JR. SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA 95814 • (916) 445-2841

FROM THE MAYOR OF SAN FRANCISCO

Greetings! On behalf of the City and County of SF, it is a pleasure to welcome you to the 44th Annual SF Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Pride Parade and Celebration. I am proud to be the Mayor of a city that has a strong history of being at the forefront of extending civil rights to all citizens. SF is a place that takes pride in its diverse communities and values equality and justice for all. This year’s theme of “Color Our World With Pride” greatly reflects our continued hope and tireless efforts towards the long arc of the moral universe bending towards justice. It is also reflective of the many ways we celebrate this annual event from a lit-up City Hall to the rainbow flags that line Market Street. We have faced a number of challenges toward achieving equality in California, and we will continue to fight until everyone is treated equally. SF was a leader in the struggle for marriage equality for the past ten years, ever since then Mayor Gavin Newsom started one of the most important civil rights issues of our generation to ensure equality for all. To the many members of the LGBT community, their families, friends, colleagues and visitors from around the world, I wish you all a great Pride 2014. May you enjoy this wonderful, exciting, and joyous celebration of acceptance and inclusion today and in your hearts forever! With warmest regards,

Edwin M. Lee Mayor

Roberta (Robbie) Kaplan successfully argued the case of client Edie Windsor before the United States Supreme CELEBRITY GRAND MARSHAL Court. In its landmark decision in United States v. Windsor, the Supreme Court ruled that a key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) violated equal protection principles of the United States Constitution because the status of being a married gay person is “a far-reaching legal acknowledgment of the intimate relationship between two people, a relationship deemed … worthy of dignity in the community equal with all other marriages.”

First elected to Congress in 1980, Barney Frank is known as a superb legislator and a pragmatic politician whose sharp intellect and sense of humor have made him one of the most influential and colorful figures in Washington. He championed the interests of the poor, the underprivileged and the vulnerable, winning re-election 12 times by wide margins. In 1987, Frank became the first member of Congress to voluntarily come out as openly gay. After sixteen terms in Congress, Frank’s legacy as a champion of civil rights and financial reform, as well as his ability to simplify any issue at hand in a clever and witty way, will be sorely missed.

GENERAL INFORMATION INFORMATION BOOTHS

SMOKE-FREE EVENT

The San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration and Parade is a smoke free event per San Francisco Health Code, Article 19L.

SAFETY & WELLNESS

SF Pride cares deeply about the safety, security, and health of all visitors to the annual Celebration and Parade. That’s why our volunteer Safety monitors work hard to provide a safe Pride Event. We recommend that you bring a friend with you when traveling to new and unfamiliar places. Report suspicious activity or unattended packages to the nearest member of the Safety Team or at the nearest Information booth. June can be hot so please stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. Please make sure that your valuables and effects are secure by not leaving bags or personal items unattended. We also encourage that you protect yourself and your sexual partners by using safe sex practices.

At the information booths you will find the most up-to-date information on the Celebration. Each booth is staffed by volunteers dedicated to helping you get the most out of SF Pride. You can pick up a copy of PocketPride. It contains an event map and information about the Parade and talent performing on the Main Stage as well as information about the 22 community-run stages and venues throughout the Pride Celebration area.

EXHIBITORS & FOOD

With close to 350 exhibitors, San Francisco Pride offers a wide variety of artists, local and national businesses, nonprofits, artisans, food and beverages. SF Pride makes a special effort to make booths affordable to local nonprofits that often use their spaces to educate, raise muchneeded funds, and connect with the community. There’s something for almost everyone at Pride.

BEVERAGES

You can enjoy beverages discounts all day at Pride by making a minimum donation of $5 at the event entrance gates. In return for your generous support, you will get a donation sticker that earns you discounts on beverages at SF Pride designated beverage

booths all day long! Throughout the site you’ll find a variety of Official Beverage Booths featuring beer and mixed drinks, as well as water and other nonalcoholic beverages. If you choose to enjoy alcohol at the event, please drink responsibly. Alcohol not purchased from one of our Official Beverage Booths is not permitted. Please remember to stay hydrated. Clean and sober visitors can enjoy an alcohol-free environment at the separate soda and water booths and at the Clean and Sober Space located on UN Plaza.

CHILDCARE & ACCESSIBILITY

Free childcare and accessibility services are available. Accessibility seating and ASL interpretation are provided at the Parade Grandstands. ASL interpreters are also provided at the Pride Main Stage and other stages throughout the event. For more information about accessibility, visit sfpride.org/access.

RECYCLING & COMPOSTING

In an effort to be environmentally responsible as we continue to pioneer green event practices, SF Pride provides disposal areas for garbage, recycling and compost. Signs will be posted at

these areas. All cups, plates and utensils used at our event are 100% compostable and made from natural derivatives.

GRANDSTAND TICKETS & ACCESSIBILITY SEATING

The grandstands, located on the north side of Market Street between Seventh and

FORBIDDEN BROADWAY July 10 - 27

Grandstand tickets are $35 in advance at sfpride.org or $40 at the entrance the morning of the parade. Tickets are provided on a sliding scale to those with accessibility needs and their partners. Accessibility seating is also provided for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

GETTING TO PRIDE

SF Pride is one of the largest outdoor events in the nation in the heart of a major metropolitan area. You can avoid traffic and scarce parking by taking public transportation. Both BART and Muni transit systems serve the Civic Center station near both the Celebration and Parade, making access to Pride easy. The Embarcadero, Montgomery Street, and Powell Street stations also serve the Parade route.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS SF Pride believes strongly in community reinvestment and that is what our Community Partners program exemplifies. The Community Partners program is a beneficiary program open to Bay Area non-profit organizations. Since 1997, San Francisco Pride has been able to grant nearly $2.3M to our beneficiaries thanks to donations made at our event gates and beverage purchases. These community organizations provide Pride with volunteers the weekend of the event and, in return, Pride awards the organizations with a grant based on our partner’s support. When you donate at the gate or purchase a beverage at Pride, you provide critical support to local charities, including LGBT organizations and those organizations working on issues related to HIV/AIDS, cancer, homelessness, and animal welfare. San Francisco Pride’s Community Partners program is one of the many ways in which Pride is working to strengthen our communities and build a strong future for the Celebration and Parade.
