FINS
A design proposal for a gallery in downtown Ho Chi Minh.
SITE 25m x 5m x 25m Tube Houses Facing road, Sandwhiched between buildings
The studio assignment postulates that the site nullifies any elements implemented on the sides due to its surroundings. The design concept adopted has to form the building’s envelope, facade, structure, spaces and openings. ____________________________________________________
FINS ____________________________________________________ In a group of 5 (including myself), we decided to revolve around a geometrical “Fin-like concept that will carve out the envelope in accordance with solar light patterns while maximising ventilation. These fin shapes are also utilised in emboidering the interior spaces.
Sectioned Axonometric
The staggered displacement of spaces facilitates in untangling conventional boundaries, and thus allows for more seamless circulation. Since the envelope itself demarcates the various programmes, individual spaces are thus more spatially integrated with one another.
Section
The fins of the envelope allow wind to pass through more freely, providing more ventilation in a compressed/tight space.

ORTHOGONAL
A design proposal for a minimalistic beach house in Guadeloupe.
This project assignment focused on designing a basic architectural form in context with its geographical area. The geometrical shape, structural elements, envelope openings, spatial circulation and materials were all conceptualised purely in accommodation to climatic conditions.

The smaller opening facing the South restricts the emount of direct sunlight that enters the space, keeping the interior cool. The larger Northern opening allows more (diffused) ambient light to enter the space, while opening up a view of the beach/ seaside.

OUTREACH
A design proposal for a Musem of Modern Art (MoMA) Satellite in downtown Singapore.
This project encapsulates the use of formfinding and ground manipulation to produce an interactive space that will house contemporary art. Responding to the contextual site which sits within a park enveloped by Singapore’s key landmarks, the design solution not only integrates demarcated programme spaces, but also transcends them into the surrounding environment. ____________________________________________________
OUTREACH ____________________________________________________
My design will focus on the performative and circulatory aspects of Architecture, branching out into the environment and producing more accessible openings to the public. The form and landscape are conceptualised in tandem to construct an interconnected art experience.

Design Process _____________________________________________ Basic Geometry Differently sized rectangles based on various programme requirements are plotted on site.
Stringing Spaces are kinked and strung together to produce angular openings.
Nesting The 4 strings of spaces are nested together in site, resembling a branchingout netwrok.
Flushing The space edges are flushed to produce seamless, smooth channels that will direct museum circulation.
Extrude & Displace Spaces based on plan view are extruded and displaced to form inter-twining volumes.

JUXTAPOSED
Conceptualising a modern home using basic geometries.
Drawing inspiration from Pezo von Ellrichshausen’s “A Thousand Cottages”, the studio propounded the exploration of 2D formfinding via geometrical intersections. Confined to the use of a single square, triangle and circle, we were tasked to design a cottage that transforms basic geometries into a conceptual space.

From working in 2D and then translating the geometries into vertical volumes, I learnt the vital significance and influence of shapes in architectural design. The rudimentary principles of architecture that this project emphasized have taught me that understanding the form should be the first priority in every design.
