LOOKBOOK FALL/WINTER 2014
RAPID TRANSIT
Our latest fascination is the subway. We love just sitting there, observing people, trying to guess who they are, where they are going and what they are thinking. To us it’s more than a place where people commute, it’s a different world and an entirely different perspective on the city and it’s citizens. It’s this world that forms the base for our Fall/ Winter 2014 theme RAPID TRANSIT. Inspired by the city under the ground we’ve used different textures we found in subway stations. Rough, weathered walls, shiny tiling, contrast between light and dark, all of which we’ve translated to materials with a worn-out, but stylish look. Also the typical subway colours such as black, grey, taupe, brown and sallow green give an underground, artificially lit look. It’s the world underground through the eyes of HUB.

THE CITY COMES ALIVE
PHILLY PAINTING Our first two documentaries featured Haas & Hahn, who use art in their quest to change people’s lives in the socioeconomically troubled neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro and Philadelphia. They mobilize communities to completely transform the look of their neighbourhood. Their “Favela Painting” and “Philly Painting” projects inspired us to make ‘A Day in the Life of Haas & Hahn’, ‘This is not the End’, and a HUB x Philly Painting sneaker.
When you call your brand HUB it’s not rocket science to guess we love the city. Cities are hubs that connect people, their activities, ideas and their stories. We believe it’s the people that shape the city’s identity and culture, not the buildings or governmental rules. It’s those ideas, activities and stories that inspire us from day one. Driven by this inspiration we’ve made a series of documentaries that tell these stories and give a different perspective on the cities we love.

A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE OF THE CITY In the beginning of 2013 we came across a different story. There’s a new generation of young Russian photographers that climb up to terrifying heights to capture the city from places people would normally avoid. There’s a whole bunch of people doing this for the thrill of it, but there’s only a few who really pay attention to the aesthetics of the photos they are taking. So, when we came across photographers Vadim & Vitaliy, we instantly knew we wanted to collaborate with them. In the thrilling documentaries ‘Roofers Point of View’ & ‘New Perspectives, the city from above and below’ we went on a trip with Vadim and Vitaliy and visited Berlin, Moscow and Siberia to show the city from above and below in a spectacular and unique way.
THIS IS MY MAGIC HOUR Our latest documentary is about the city during the most beautiful part of the day: Magic Hour. ‘This Is My Magic Hour’ is a document about a special time in the day and in our lives, as seen through the eyes of photographer Jasper James. In the film we investigate the youthful optimism of a group of youngsters who are living their early twenty ‘Magic Hours’, all shot against the beautiful light of the literal magic hour at sunrise and sunset. Making these documentaries is our way of celebrating the people who characterize the cities we live in. They are the ones that make the city come alive.
