Gráfica Editora Aquarela is a familiar company which was founded in 1960. In the end of 1980s, Marangoni family, which back then bad already occupied the main positions in this company, assumed total stock control of Gráfica Aquarela and, definitely, consolidates a new position.

In 2010 Gráfica Aquarela celebrates 50 years and it is recognized as one of the most solid and well-equipped printing industries in the market due to its technological development and commercial policy.

To celebrate this date, Gráfica Aquarela publishes an issue of Luxury Printing magazine, with the experiment 50 years / 50 designers, chosen by “Vicente Gil Arquitetura e Design” office (Vicente Gil Architecture and Design). Our goal was to honor these 50 designers, which among so many others, have contributed to what we call “Graphic Design”.

And, above all, they inspired, inspire and will inspire people who all the time start in this professional field and want to be successful.

This experiment only transforms the past, revealing it updated by the new technological processes and by the creativity and expertise of these designers who participated into this process, besides, of course, the advances propitiated by the development of the offset printing format.

The elements are always the same and the way to present them is endless: it depends on the view of each participant of the process. This way to graphically review and reread the past is part of the culture which is evaluated in this diversitt of the elements that put it together.

A Gráfica Editora Aquarela é uma empresa familiar, fundada em 1960, no final da década de 80 a família Marangoni, que já ocupava os principais cargos de direção da empresa, assume o total controle acionário da Gráfica Aquarela e, definitivamente, consolida uma nova posição.

Neste ano de 2010, em que comemora seus 50 anos, é reconhecidamente uma das mais sólidas e bem equipadas indústrias gráficas do mercado, devido ao seu desenvolvimento tecnológico e política comercial.

Para celebrar a data, publica este número da revista Luxury Printing, com o experimento 50 anos/50 designers, escolhidos pelo escritório Vicente Gil Arquitetura e Design.

Nosso objetivo foi o de homenagear esses 50 designers, que entre tantos outros, contribuíram para o ofício que hoje se convecionou chamar —Design Gráfico. E que acima de tudo inspiraram, inspiram e inspirarão os que nesta profissão se inserem e querem evoluir.

O experimento apenas transforma o passado, revelando-o atualizado pelos novos processos tecnológicos e pela criatividade e repertório dos designers que participaram do processo, além é claro dos avanços propiciados pelo desenvolvimento da impressão no formato ofsete.

Os elementos são sempre os mesmos e a forma de apresentá-los é infinita, depende da visão de cada participante do processo. Esse rever e reler graficamente o passado é parte da cultura que é avaliada justamente nessa diversidade de elementos que a compõem.

In 1928, when Johnston’s former student Eric Gill, a master of inscriptional lettering, designed his Gill Sans typeface, he took Johnston’s alphabet as a model.

One of the most important Dutch contribution in the development of graphic design was the work of Piet Zwart. Zwart’s symbol was the letter P and a black square, because in Dutch, “zwart” means black.

Uma das mais importantes contribuições holandesas à evolução do design gráfico foi o trabalho de Piet Zwart. Seu símbolo era a letra P e um quadrado preto, porque em holandês, “zwart” significa preto.

Reflection combined with transformation had been the basis of Fletcher’s method. Each one of his drawings, collages, quotes, puns and plays reveal curiosity about he world combined with a will to remake it.

In the mid–1960s, the Swiss style was formalized

by Massimo Vignelli in his typographical posters, this was the style that shortly afterwards he transplanted to New York.
