HELLO EVERYONE! BY SR MARQUÉS
Hello how are you? After a while I can finally contact you to inform you in more detail about some of the activities and work we are doing in the subject of Social Studies. It's my first year as a professor at Lexington, at FCPS and in the United States. Therefore, everything is new to me. It is being an exciting and very nice challenge at the same time. I would like to thank you for all the support and personal conversations or email that I have had with you.
As you know, I teach 7th and 8th grade and, the truth is, I am very satisfied with how the classes are working. After a period of adaptation, the students and I already know each other and we have managed to establish a good plan and rhythm of work. These first months have flown by! In 7th grade we are taking a trip through some of the civilizations of the Ancient World: Mesopotamia, Egypt, India ... The students have done extraordinary works such as personal timelines, interactive posters of ancient art or projects on Mesopotamian cities.
NEXT UNITS
.The next topics that we will discuss in class are the following. In 7th grade, we have started to work on India and its most important civilizations: Mohenjo-Daro, Harappa ... We will also talk about the invasion of the Aryan peoples, the influence of the Hindu and Buddhist religions or how the caste society worked .
A GOOD START! IIn 8th grade, the trip has taken us to study the Native Americans, the beginnings of the European colonization of America until the American Revolution and the independence process. The 8th graders have had great oral presentations about the native tribes, mental maps about the colonies and they have also designed logos with slogans about the revolutionary process.
In 8th, students will make a "virtual" interview with an important character of the Revolution as an oral activity before studying the principles and foundations of the Constitution of the United States: Constitutional Convention, separation of powers, articles, amendments ... I'm sure they will do an excellent job! A pleasure to share this channel of communication with you. Until next time! See you soon!
