When she started out, she noted, it was more difficult for a woman in dentistry. “It was mostly a boys’ club. There were a lot more male dentists than female,” she said. Today, however, many actively seek out a female dentist, finding their care more soothing and relaxing.

One of the best pieces of advice she ever received was to “treat your staff well, and maintain a welcoming office environment,” she said. She also prides herself on keeping up with the many innovations in dental science.

Owner, Efi’s Gyro

Owned by Efi Mihalis, Efi’s Gyro located in Montclair, offers authentic Greek street food. Efi says that she wanted to open a restaurant that served the type of food you’d find in Greece. “Our food reminds me of home,” she says.

All of the ingredients are fresh and whenever possible, imported from Greece. From the souvla to the pita, the gyros (pronounced “yee-ros”) are composed of authentic pork or chicken, mounted with greek spices that are always perfectly broiled. Complimented with garden-fresh ingredients and homemade tzatziki sauce, Efi says, “Efi’s Gyro is proud to produce gyros that can only be found on the streets of Athens.” Wholesome authentic Greek Food.

Efi, who learned to cook by watching her yiayia (grandma) and mother in the kitchen, says that the best business advice she ever got from her parents was “whatever you do—do it with love.”

She says she finds her job very rewarding and is thankful for the support of the community. She loves cooking and giving a customer an affordable meal that puts a smile on their face. “This makes my day,” she says. Efi has plans to open a second restaurant in Caldwell by the end of the year.

Jill Behrman is the founder/owner of Luxe45 Lifestyle Boutique in Maplewood. For more than 20 years, she ran a successful 3,000-square-foot lighting showroom in Miami, FL, that featured more than 300 brands worldwide. At the age of 15, Joanna Rolleczek began providing skincare under her mother’s supervision— the founder of Jadwig Skin Care. After attending Capri Institute of Cosmetology, Christine Valmy International School of Esthetics and Studio Makeup Academy in Hollywood, CA, Joanna started working alongside several highly respected physicians, including one of the top dermatologists in New Jersey. While there, she established a nice clientele for herself and eventually outgrew his practice.

“At Jadwig, I take each individual client and look at them as a whole, taking into account their lifestyle, skin goals and expectations,” she says. “I then carry them through a process of skincare, so it’s not just one visit - it becomes a long-lasting relationship that evolves into something greater.

Together, we decide what we’re going to do next to get to the end result.”

She adds, “Everything I do is customized to the individual and to their skin, because everyone’s skin is different.”

Joanna also focuses on educating clients about skincare and health. “Our skin is our canvas and it’s our most important feature,” she says. “It’s also our biggest organ and a reflection of our overall health.”

Her career, she says, brings her immense joy and satisfaction. “No matter what you do, you have to love what you do, and if you love it, you’ll be successful,” she adds.
