Row, Row, Row Your Bike!

MAKING FITNESS FUN

By Barry Farber

How do you keep in shape, not get bored and make your workouts fun? I’m a big believer in varying your workouts so you not only keep it interesting but utilize a variety of different muscles. I’ve been experimenting with all types of workouts over the years: using sixteen 2.5-pound rings on my arms while training in martial arts, attaching car tires to my waist and doing pull ups, etc. (see more @ barryfarberofficial). Being creative and using all types of devices around the house allows for a full body workout. Even taking out the garbage can be turned into a great exercise. One of my favorite fitness products is the RowBike that allows you to get the benefits of rowing with strength training and cardio at the author at www.BarryFarber.com same time, but also the enjoyment of being outside and the mobility of a bike.

Here are several things to think about when choosing a workout that impacts the entire body:

1. Always try to look at exercises and movement that engages the legs, core and upper body. If you find those type of exercises that encompass a full body workout, it will save you time and include the benefits some muscle groups miss out on.

2. Get the fundamentals down and the level of everything you do will rise. Anytime you start a new exercise (consult your doctor if needed), keep in mind that when it comes to working out new parts of your body you should begin slowly.

Do the exercises slow at first, use less weights, less repetitions. It’s also a better workout. Remember–slow you grow and fast never lasts.

3. Keep in mind that the right posture and the right breathing are essential to all types of movement and training. The right breathing calms you, brings oxygen to your blood and enhances your energy. The right posture makes sure your muscles are used properly and decreases fatigue.

There is never just one way to work out. As Bruce Lee said and I’ve mentioned many times in the past: “Collect what is useful, Discard what is not...and then
