Víctor Eduardo Ramírez Santos

Dominican Republic

Víctor Ramírez is an architect who specializes in hyperbolic paraboloids, a type of concrete shells. Examples of the research he has done on the subject include: “Life, Death and Resurrection of Hyperbolic Paraboloids” (an essay presented at the 2016 Latin American Conference of School and Faculties of Architecture), and “The Renaissance of Hyperbolic Paraboloids” (his thesis project, which consisted in designing a campus for a Visual Arts School, whose buildings would be roofed with eight different kind of hyperbolic paraboloid shapes). He also has participated in two startup business contests, in which he presented the idea of building hyperbolic paraboloid roofs in a way that could constitute a successful business model. By winning at those competitions, he obtained funds that will be used in the construction of a prototype structure on his college campus. The construction is expected to be finished by the summer of 2017.
