CLIPPER’S WHALE & SEALIFE SEARCH

You’ll board the Victoria Clipper III in the morning at downtown Seattle’s Pier 69 and cruise out of Elliott Bay going north through Puget Sound, also known by the native name Salish Sea. Following the east coast of Whidbey Island, view the Cascade Mountains while watching an assortment of vessels including small sailboats and freighters from around the world.

The San Juan Islands are world-renowned for both the resident pods of orca whales, as well as the migratory pods that feed in the area. The Islands are also teeming with other wildlife and sealife that call the San Juans home.

A Fully Narrated Scenic Cruise from Seattle

These islands are home to orca whales, blacktail deer and over 100 pairs of bald eagles. Your Naturalist will identify special points of interest throughout the trip.

TRAVEL INFORMATION IF TRAVELING BETWEEN U.S. & CANADA: U.S. regulations on restricted items are available in literature on board the vessel or at Clipper Terminals. CANADA CUSTOMS: Prohibited and Restricted Weapons: All automatic weapons, handguns, mace and pepper spray. Items mentioned are not all inclusive. Please contact Canada Customs for further information, and for information on importation of regulated firearms. IMMIGRATION: Identification is necessary for Customs and Border Protection. Due to heightened security at the United States/Canadian border crossing, all travelers must present a Passport, Passport Card or Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) at all sea and land borders. Canadian law defines Driving While Intoxicated or Driving Under the Influence as a felony.

Friday Harbor In a few hours, you’ll arrive at picturesque Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. Enjoy about 5 hours ashore to lunch on local seafood and soak up local culture, as well as shop, browse the town’s galleries, stop by the fascinating Whale Museum or enjoy Clipper’s own 2.5 hour Whale & Sealife Search, allowing about 2.5 hours ashore, following the excursion. Finally, you’ll return to Seattle on a more direct route, cruising past Port Townsend and enjoying more of Washington’s 1,000 miles of diverse scenic coastline. Options include an overnight on San Juan Island, or a connecting trip to Victoria or Vancouver, BC. See inside for details on several overnight package options.

San Juan Islands listed #3 on Lonely Planet's Top 10 U.S. Destinations for 2013.

The San Juan Islands are located in the U.S. and do not require a passport for travel from Seattle.

Deception Pass

The San Juan Islands ranked #10 on Travel + Leisure Magazine's 2014 World's Best Awards, Top Islands in Continental U.S. and Canada.

This 2.5-hour tour is our own, so we can offer it at an excellent value. Compare to similar tours at twice the price!

Join us aboard the triple decked 200-passenger Victoria Clipper III to enjoy outdoor viewing, or stay in and enjoy through large viewing windows. For your comfort and enjoyment, food and beverages, restrooms, binocular rental and a trained Naturalist are available on board. The Clipper Whale & Sealife Search begins in Friday Harbor. During the whale and sealife search, your Naturalist will help you to understand the behaviors demonstrated by whales and other wildlife, as well as the natural history about diet, habitat and factors affecting the long-term survival of the animals you see. In many cases, the individual whales seen are known to our Naturalists and can be identified by distinctive markings. Whenever possible, your Naturalist will identify the specific whales as they are seen. Keeping in close contact with other vessels, the location of any whales in the area can be determined and the Victoria Clipper III's speed allows us to reach areas with the best viewing. After 2.5 spectacular hours, the boat docks back in Friday Harbor, so you may enjoy the rest of your time on San Juan Island. Finish up your day in town, before returning to Seattle, or spend the night and continue your adventure the following day! Denotes the Naturalist Program and Friday Harbor stopover, features unique to Clipper. As a member of the Pacific Whale Watch Association of the Northwest, we have great respect and admiration for these magnificent animals and are committed to maintaining compliance with established whale watching guidelines.
