color inspiration
spring/summer 2017
Color plays a major role in our lives - it evokes a mood, brings back a memory and breathes life into objects. Each season, we take a look at the colors around us and find those that speak to the times and what is currently happening. Long gone are the rules for when certain colors are appropriate only during specific times - no white after labor day, no pastels during the winter. For the spring/summer 2017 season, we have found the top four color palettes that truly coincide with the zeitgest of culture and fashion. The first story, Folklore, looks to the past art of various cultures to bring them together, since no one person identifies with only one culture today. Next is idiosyncratic, which plays off the quirky and unlikely combinations brought on by the digital age. Awakening is the soft, calming story this season, looking back to simpler times and those quiet moments we yearn for. Lastly, barren looks to the deserted lands of the midwest. Each color story is broken down as to give you a sense of how the colors can be mixed and matched.

This soft color story brings you to a calmer time. The retro red and green is freshened up with a dusty undertone and brighter accents. Colors were found by looking at faded pictures and washed out wallpaper prints, bringing back memories from the past - the pale sky, bleached grass, your favorite pink summer dress. This palette brings you back to those quiet moments you have, giving you serenity and peace.

Barren looks to the empty lands of the Midwest. Beautiful colors seen from the road while traveling were picked up and collected to create this story. Nature creates palettes such as these in the richness of the canyons together with the faded meadows. The story is cooled down with hints of pale blue and muted greys, offering more than just sandy tones as neutrals.
