Vidya Adiraputri

ABOUT ME I am a fresh graduate of bachelor’s degree in Architecture. I am interested in learning and getting more experience in architectural practice and building construction process on field. The part I loved the most about architecture is the design process, how an idea can be transformed into spaces that shape our behavior and the surrounding environment.

CLIMATE CHANGE INTERPRETATION CENTER Interpretation Center Undergraduate Thesis / Final Project 2nd Place Technical Studies KTA ITS 2023 Sayung, Demak 2023 Bedono, located at coastal area of Demak Regency, is one of the villages in Indonesia that is at risk of being submerged by coastal flooding and abrasion. This effect of global sea level rise caused by climate change threatens the residents’ settlements and infrastructures. Their houses are flooded almost every day which forces them to raise their floor year by year. It is not always easy for the residents to move out because of economic reasons. On the other side, knowledge and awareness of the local residents about the cause and solution for the climate disaster are still low. Climate change awareness has the connection between cognitive (knowledge), affective (feelings), and conative awareness (willingness to act). Despite of more and more climate change campaigns, real actions against climate change is still considered low because cognitive awareness is not balanced by affective awareness, which is important to create conative awareness. Interpretation center might be a suitable solution to increase affective awareness about climate change. Interpretation process with an emphasize on sensory experience can help people to receive, understand, feel, and empathize with the phenomenon happened in Bedono and therefore increase their conative awareness.

Adaptation measures are also important to help villagers dealing with the situation at present time to create a resilient society, one of which is related to the building construction system. This interpretation center is expected to be able to provide education not only through its program, but also as a physical example which inspires the residents by introducing a construction system that can adapt to coastal flooding and abrasion. This interpretation center building also uses environmentally friendly sanitation system as a pioneer to improve local sanitation system.

An urban green continuity

It was in March 2020, when Indonesia got its first COVID-19 case. The government then declared it as an emergency state and set restrictions to go to workplace. Lots of people was losing their jobs and struggling to adapt to the new working culture, Working From Home (WFH). Small businesses and workers are very much affected. It is shown with the increasing number of laid off employees, bankrupt small and medium enterprises, and reduced working hours. The impact the pandemic has done could not be recovered easily. It takes some time to recover their business back to normal. If someone’s ability to earn a living is affected, it can lead to stress and affecting their mental health.

13

Job Training Facility & Coworking Space AYDA 2022 Submission Bekasi 2022

Therefore a job training facility and coworking space is needed to help them to rebuild and restart their business and career. Bekasi is a satellite city at the west of Jakarta, a city which contributes the highest number of commuter workers in Jakarta and known for its center of goods and services industry. A lot of people prefer to live in satellite cities because of its cheaper cost of living. The site is located near Bekasi’s job opportunity expansion center which will support the operational and activities at this job training facility and co-working.

The hourglass-like shape of each co-working tower is to response local climate and Bekasi’s problem related to clean water and hot weather. Hot air will go up through the atrium and fresh air from wind can go through the bridging area to cool down the building. The use of perforated metal also to maintain passive cooling inside. Rainwater will falls slowly into the atrium as it stumbles along the slanted walls and eventually seep into rainwater tank and into the soil. This slow rainwater movement can gives therapeutic effect. 19

DORMEO HOTEL City Hotel Academic Project (5th semester) Kotabaru, Yogyakarta 2021 Located in Yogyakarta, Kotabaru is a cultural heritage district. The site is located at a corner of a crossroad of Jenderal Sudirman street and Suroto street (in the real condition, it is the site of Gramedia bookstore and Tribun Jogja office). With the opportunity of having two sides exposed to the street and night view of the crossroad, and constraints from building regulations to preserve the heritage district, this hotel design is aimed to be harmonious to the surroundings yet at the same time is appealing with its catchy and so-called instagrammable features. Showcasing Kotabaru’s local culture and values in contemporary architecture style to adapt with modern society as the time goes by and to fit in with the variety of the hotel guests’ tastes.

The mass of the building is a long rectanglebased shape with eight floors up, semibasement, and a basement.

The mass’s elongated shape is adjusting to the site’s shape

The mass is slightly rotated towards the crossroad as the main view and to adjust with the site’s setback. A semi-outdoor coffee shop is placed at the corner to attract pedestrians to come inside.

The site’s soil is lifted up to cover the semibasement at the front and giving the entrance a grand look.

The shapes and colors used for the rooms’ window is derived from the dormer window of the buildings near the hotel. The podium is dominated with glass as the contemporary aspects of the building and to attract people. 23

RUANG TENGAH Public Space Top 10 AREXPO FPTK UPI Ciumbuleuit, Bandung 2022

“Ruang Tengah” is Indonesian’s term for a living room. A living room is a room where every family members usually gather in a house. What about a “living room” for the society? A “living room” can be interpreted as a middle zone for both the young and the old, the lower and upper middle class, for all genders and abilities. This public space is located in a housing area near the district’s office where variety of community organizations are at. The existence of this public space will also accomodate those local communities.

BANUA NABARU Community Center Archevent UNS Submission Pombewe, Sulawesi Tengah 2021 Team: Nahla Partika, Gemma Febriany The 2018 Palu earthquake caused many losses, especially for the ward of Petobo. Severe liquifaction has ingulf the ward, costing the home of many. The government has planned for several new settlements because the land on Petobo hardly qualifies to build on. One of the settled location for the permanent residence is Pombewe, that is now on the process of completion. Hence, we feel the need to address the needs for the people to heal in their new, once foreign home. The site was picked for the distance that can be reached from the housing easily. Aside from healing of the trauma, the space created is aimed to heal both the psychological aspect of the mind and heart as well as the economy of the people to survive and thrive.

THE HABITAT University Campus Masterplan 1st Place COURTYARD#1 UB Malang, Jawa Timur 2023 Team: Rr. Andhini Yudhani P., Ashiva Mutiara P. Malang’s cool temperature and its nice and shady environment is one of this campus’ advantage. However, does the existing campus support the well-being of the academic communities? Are their activities and potential as a driving-force in the future well facilitated? Technological developments are ones of the things that are responsible in shaping today’s academic community’s lifestyle. Sadly, several habits that are formed contribute to global carbon emissions such as the use of private vehicles. Furthermore, gadget addiction reduces social interactions and physical activities. Facing the issues mentioned, is it possible for a campus’ environment to help shaping the academic community’s lifestyle?

Universitas Brawijaya’s Campus 1 is located in Malang, forming an axis line with three mountains surrounding the city. Aside from its name which is derived from the ruler of Majapahit, the locality is also found in their architectural elements such as temple-shaped gate and the use of red brick materials and colors.

LEMPUYANGAN

4

After

The area near Lempuyangan Railway Station has a lot of old and historical buildings such as warehouses, colonialstyle houses, and a railway roundhouse. Currently, most of those buildings are vacant and not maintained well enough whereas many potential it has to revive Lempuyangan area’s identity and to make it a considered destination for tourists and local people. My scope of work is to adaptively reuse two warehouses at the north of Lempuyangan Station to contribute making Lempuyangan area more alive. The space and shape of a warehouse is suitable for a new function like commercial or market. These warehouses are located near Kotabaru area which gives them potential visitors among students. Therefore, bookstore and craft market are chosen as the new function for it to attract students and act as an entrance from Kotabaru to Lempuyangan area by combining the old architecture with building programs for the youth.
