VIERA welcome

TRACY DUDA CHAPMAN IS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE VIERA COMPANY AND GENERAL COUNSEL TO A. DUDA & SONS, INC.

In the July-August issue of Viera Vision, I shared with you The Viera Company’s commitment to building a vibrant community and, as the master developer of Viera, one of our guiding principles is to create a community that will enrich the quality of life for residents of central Florida. In this issue, I want to bring attention to the richness of Brevard County’s arts and culture. When it comes to enriching the quality of life for our residents, Viera is blessed to be right in the center of a vibrant community of the arts. To learn about the efforts of the Brevard Cultural Alliance to represent the arts and culture sector in our community, take a look at our cover article, “The Arts: How They Inspire and Influence Us.” This feature also outlines the important role the King Center plays in presenting the best of the performing arts in our community, and how Principal Conductor Christopher Confessore, with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, chooses music for each season. You will also learn about the offerings of smaller venues like the Art Gallery of Viera and the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse.

In “Arts Education” on page 13 we make sure to highlight our local art educators and how the creativity of their students contribute to the fabric of our community. And, on page 18, our Neighbors feature article “Picasso On A Plate” puts an interesting twist on the theme by featuring Edible Art Catering, founded by Chris Conneen, owner of Pizza Gallery & Grill at The Avenue in Viera. From the performing arts to the edible arts, Viera residents have easy access to them all. To begin exploring the variety of arts events and activities in and around Viera, take a look at what’s happening in October in “Upcoming Events” on page 36.

Enjoy!

revard County is home to an incredible arts base that serves residents of all ages. Several organizations stand at the forefront, piecing together an artistically rich tapestry in Brevard County. Working alongside the community, they paint a beautiful picture that tells the story of our culturally rich home. “The arts help people look at things differently,” says Jerry Hanzl at The Art Gallery of Viera. He also adds, “The arts encourage personal

expression, free thinking and reaching out of the box…” There is power in the arts, a power that has the capability of resonating deeply within each of us and for very different reasons. They influence us and bring us to new heights. Steve Janicki, executive director of the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts, says, “The arts are powerful in that they enrich the lives of the people in our community. They entertain, educate, and promote culture and diversity.”

The Brevard Cultural Alliance, under the leadership of Neil Levine, is highly involved within the community through various initiatives. It believes that the arts and culture are necessary, if not vital, to the health and wellbeing of our community, and was designated as Brevard’s Local Art Agency by the County Commission as the “professional, nonprofit organization representing the arts and cultural sector.” The BCA spends a large portion of its time advocating for the arts at the state level. In doing so, it has been given over one million dollars in state grants. This money is then used to foster the various arts organizations in Brevard. Recently, the organization was awarded an invitational non-competitive grant from the National Endowment for the Arts validating their efforts. Empowering through education is something the BCA finds extremely important. They partner with our public schools by providing programming both during and after school in over 30 locations. These programs reach 4,000

students, bringing the arts to young eyes and, hopefully, inspiring them to take on creative challenges and careers. The King Center is another organization that breathes life into our thriving arts community. For 27 years the theater has been bringing the best of the performing arts to the area with no end in site. Janicki finds it challenging to sum up what makes him most proud about the King Center. If he had to pick just

one thing it would be their Theatre for Youth Outreach programs. This program “brings local school children in to expose them to the performing arts,” he says. Community involvement is of great importance as well. For example, on September 21 they partnered with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and the Eau Gallie Arts district to put on the second annual Cultural Arts Showcase. This free, family friendly event included

free concerts by the BSO and featured booths from local arts organizations, live performances, food trucks and more. Brevard’s residents are always at the forefront for Janicki when choosing upcoming seasons. He strives to bring programming that is “as diverse as the community we live in. We are in the business of providing top quality programming for our citizens,” Janicki says. V IE R A . co m 11

VIERA coverstory The Brevard Symphony Orchestra is another arts organization that brings the arts to our community. For Lesmarie Velez, marketing director of the BSO, the arts “stimulate the senses and spur the imagination. Cultural arts provide a creative outlet for individuals of all skill levels,” she says. When choosing music for their season, Principal Conductor Christopher Confessore opts for innovative programming with a mix of classic and contemporary pieces. For over 25 years, the Brevard Symphony Orchestra has presented a free family concert where attendees have the opportunity to meet the Conductor and participate in hands-on activities. This phenomenal event is evidence of their desire to connect with, inspire and enlighten our community. The visual arts have a power all their own and The Art Gallery of Viera knows that well. For Director Helen Wheatley it is her personal experiences with art that fuel her desire to share art with the community. “Personally, art has drawn me out of my shell and given me something to talk about, get excited about, something that challenges me and allows me to express my uniqueness.” The Art Gallery of Viera is always looking for artists who offer a new perspective and bring something different to the gallery. They seek to bring skilled artists who exemplify

rts education plays a significant role in development by encouraging creativity, broadening the horizons of students, and fostering individuality. Educators passionate about the fine arts and students grace Viera schools, offering exceptional training in various fine arts disciplines.

DELAURA MIDDLE SCHOOL

Vickki Thacher, Art Teacher DeLaura Middle School

DeLaura Middle School has award-winning programs in the fine arts and offers visual arts, band, orchestra, chorus, drama and guitar to its students. “When students are introduced to the arts, they have first-hand knowledge and exposure to the depth of study and work it requires to be in the profession,” says Vickki Thacker, art teacher at Delaura. After leaving her program, according to Vickki, students say their arts experience “changed how they see the world, their understanding of art, and promoted their own creative fire. They realize art transcends the classroom and is in all cultures of the world, as well as other subjects.”

VIERA HIGH SCHOOL:

Art teacher Dr. Susan West at Viera High School knows the impact arts education has on students. “Students are required to think beyond themselves,“ she says. Her students have the opportunity to study many art forms and showcase their work at various venues in Brevard. Dr. West challenges students to “give more than I expect,” knowing that they are only limited by their imaginations. She firmly believes students are more than capable of doing more than they thought possible.

hey like convenience, amenities and value. They’re tech savvy, have a sense of community and are very in tune with their collective consciousness. A recent report by the Urban Land Institute said they “could be the singular most dominant trend for many years” in the commercial real estate market. They are Generation Y (individuals born between 1979-95). “As a home builder in Viera, we have witnessed more young families from the Generation Y/Millennial group choosing to move here. These families tend to have two professional, working adults – engineers, doctors and the like – who want to raise their families in a safe, burgeoning area with great schools,” says Karen Hufford, Marketing Manager for LifeStyle Homes. “What oftentimes attracts Generation Y to LifeStyle Homes in particular are the energy-efficient and solar-powered homes we build. Generation Y/Millennials grew up during the age of technology. They welcome technological advances and alternative energies, like solar power, and they want to live in a home that won’t be 16 VIE RA V I S I O N

obsolete in 10-20 years.” Tom Davis, Vice President/Director of Business Development and Residential Design with Burton Homes has recognized a similar trend in the Burton buyer. “When they sit down with us, they’re very educated and very astute. They understand the financing and the entire process, but they’re really looking for value. “They’re also planning for the future, so most of them are thinking in terms of flex space in the home now, but can later morph into something for having children, or having more children.” Viera Builders’ has two new communities that have curb appeal to everyone, but especially for those homebuyers that make up Generation Y or Millennials. Stadium Villas (located near the Publix shopping center off Stadium Parkway and Viera Blvd.) and Arrivas Village (across the street from The Avenue), both offer the convenience of nearby shopping in a more urban setting than previous Viera neighborhoods. “They don’t want to live in a cookiecutter type of home,” Viera Builders COO Bill Moore said of Generation Y

buyers. “They want something kind of unique and different.” Both Stadium Villas and Arrivas Village offer fully functioning balconies and, so that each home has its own outdoor entertainment/living space, there are courtyards in the center of the home where homeowners can put their barbecue grills, or perhaps a big screen TV or even a pool. Viera Builders and a professional landscaper will help buyers design this outdoor space to fit their needs. This style coincides with what other builders in Viera are witnessing as well. “Generation Y/Millennials are more focused on family and entertaining guests,” said Jason Stanley, President of Stanley Homes. “They demand housing technology, open floor/kitchen plans, outdoor living areas and home theatres.” “They’re very social,” said Tom Davis. “They like gathering spots. So, the fact that Burton homes have some pretty exciting outdoor living areas, we emphasize that when we talk to those folks; that’s for sure.” Back at Stadium Villas and Arrivas Village, although the homeowner is

Edible Art Catering Takes Creative Cuisine to New Heights

Executive Chef, John Bibby & Founder, Chris Conneen

EDIBLE ART CATERING Sink your teeth into sesame seed seared tuna on a crispy rice cracker with red pepper dusted wasabi crème fraiche. Tempt your taste buds with a matchstick vegetable mix of parsnip, carrots and snow peas tossed in tarragon butter and nestled in creamy duchess potatoes. Or savor juicy chicken breast seared in garlic lime marinade with an orange juice reduction sauce. 18 VIE RA V I S I O N

Just one bite will prove that food, in its highest form, is so much more than simple sustenance. It’s beautiful, creative, delicious art. Or at least that’s the idea behind Viera culinary cornerstone Edible Art Catering. “Our purpose is to enrich our clients’ lives by providing an incredible dining experience,” explains Edible Art Catering Founder Chris Conneen. “That encompasses the creative aspects of our food, the quality, the consistency and the value. Our clients are coming to us to really have an experience. It’s not just food.” Edible Arts Catering has always strived to produce truly transcendent

meals, and new Executive Chef John Bibby brings the talent and experience to make that happen. “I have almost no artistic ability at all in music, drawing, painting, or anything like that, but I do have the ability to create art on a plate,” he says. “I can just think of flavors in my mind and know whether or not they will work together. Our goal is to have layers of flavor within each component of a dish, and we try to hit three levels of sensory input with our food: texture, flavor and visual plate presentation.” Like any good artist, Bibby requires room to work, and now he has it, thanks to Edible Art Catering’s recent

Always Great Design ... Heritage Isle Clubhouse

move. The catering outfit once shared kitchen space with its busy sister company, Pizza Gallery & Grill at The Avenue in Viera, but now, Edible Art has taken over the newly renovated country club bistro — which is open to the public for lunch and dinner— at the expansive upscale retirement community Heritage Isle. The move has made it much easier to quickly prepare large meals for off-site catered events, and it allows customers the new option of hosting their events onsite at the Heritage Isle Clubhouse, which features one of the Space Coast’s largest ballrooms. Becoming the exclusive caterer for such an impressive venue is a big step for Edible Art Catering, but Conneen’s goals for the company remain the same. “We want to provide more in value than we ask for in payment and have people walk away thinking, ‘Wow, that was incredible,’” he says. “There’s a lot of planning and details that go into big catered events, and we want that worry to go away from the first phone call when we tell our customers that we’re going to cross all the t’s and dot all the i’s, and their event is going to be a huge success that will exceed all expectations. We always strive for that.” For more information, visit EdibleArtCatering.com

Local Natural Health Practitioners Take Preventative Approach to Healthcare

D

espite all the good they do, hospitals can be intimidating places. And if you have reason to be at the hospital in the first place, it’s probably not under the cheeriest of circumstances. But luckily, some believe there are natural health options that might help prevent your next hospital visit. The natural health movement has grown over the past several decades. Natural health practitioners believe techniques like herbal remedies and manual manipulation of body systems can maintain and even improve health without the need for chemical medications or surgical procedures. 20 VIE RA V I S I O N

“People are looking for natural, alternative healing methods these days,” explains Lindy Tolleson, owner of OceanBreeze Family Chiropractic & Acupuncture, which caters to the Viera market. “I think healthcare should be more preventative as opposed to ‘sick care,’ where you only act once you’ve got something wrong with you. If you make health a lifestyle instead, you’re going to live longer, and your health is going to be better maintained.” Tolleson specializes in body manipulation techniques such as chiropractic, acupuncture and massage, which are currently the most widespread forms of natural medicine in the Viera area. These

techniques, which are designed for regular use, target the Lindy Tolleson spinal chord and soft tissues in hopes of producing results like pain relief and increased mobility. “When I first started receiving massage, I was just shocked at how it affected me emotionally and physically,” says Lisa Beatty, owner of Viera-based Holistic Healing Massage. “It helps with adrenal function. It’s a total cortisol flush, so it helps with stress relief, and it helps with pain management.”

Beatty, whose business also offers treatments like colon hydrotherapy and ionic foot detox baths, said she once struggled with weight issues, anxiety, depression and addiction, but adopting a natural health lifestyle turned things around for her. And Brandon Bond — whose local Bond Chiropractic Lisa Beatty business specializes in combining nutrition with chiropractic — attests that many of his patients turn to natural health as a last ditch effort at the end of a long, hard road. “We have a lot of people who have been dealing with chronic issues for years, and they haven’t found relief anywhere,” he says. “But we also see a lot people who look at where they’re at with their health and want to make a change. We want to be a guide for those people because health is a lifelong journey. ON THE BLOCK Community Values Bring Slow & Low Bar-B-Que to Viera

n Cocoa Beach, when gentle offshore winds blow, the intoxicating scent of hickory smoke wafts across the dunes from Slow & Low Bar-B-Que Bar & Grill. The family-owned St. Louis-style barbecue joint has become a neighborhood fixture over the past decade, and with good reason: Slow & Low is famously dedicated to meticulously slow-cooking all its meats, but the business is also equally committed to community involvement. And now, owners Nicole and Joel Smith are hoping to make Slow & Low part of the Viera community. The Smiths broke ground on their new Stadium Parkway location in July, and they plan to be open and satisfying their first hungry customers by December. The new Slow & Low restaurant will feature the same finger-lickin’ good food, live music and sports, and daily drink and food specials as the Cocoa Beach location, along with indoor and outdoor seating. “We use all fresh ingredients, and almost everything that we serve is made from scratch,” says Nicole. “I think that sets us apart. It’s never hard for us to tell people what’s in our food. And a lot of our meats cook all day long. It’s all about fresh ingredients and cooking every day.” But Slow & Low hopes to impress Viera residents with more than just food quality. The business also plans on becoming a very active member of the local community. Come December, they’ll be looking to give back in a major way through local events, school activities, and charity work. “We chose Viera for our second location because it’s such a fast-growing, tight-knit community,” Nicole says. “People in Viera are always working to make their community better, and we wanted to be a part of that. We just felt like there was so much community involvement, and that’s exactly how we like to run our business.”

School Donation Breakfast Tuesday, September 9th

From Community Manager, Clay Archey Now that school is back in session, there are a number of ways Viera residents can be supportive of our local schools. First, whether you have a child in school or not, you can help our students make a safe return to school by respecting traffic laws and being patient with school car lines. In addition, there are numerous opportunities to give back and volunteer to help the youth of our community grow. For instance, you can support our kids by attending local youth performances or sporting events. To learn about school volunteer opportunities, contact the local schools and inquire about their needs. Did you know that if you are 55 or older, you qualify for Brevard Public Schools’ Legacy Club? Membership in this new program gives you discounts to sporting events, as well as musical and theatrical performances. If you are over the age of 65, many of these events are free to Legacy Club members. For more information about Legacy Club, visit BrevardSchools.org/LegacyClub. Finally, I am pleased to report that at a recent meeting of local Viera school principals, representatives from each Viera school were presented with financial donations by leadership from The Viera Company, Viera Builders and Viera Realty to help with the various needs our schools have. As members of the Viera community, I encourage you to consider what you can do to support our local students and schools as well.

iera Super Target employees are taking the lead in local community outreach efforts. At the helm is store team leader and manger, Maribeth Terraglio. Not only does Terraglio coordinate charitable efforts by employees for her store, she also serves as “community captain” for her entire district — including nine Target stores from Merritt Island south to Palm Beach. “I have a staff of more than 100 individuals and I would say that at least 50 percent of them have given back in some capacity. We organize a lot of different events like helping out Habitat for Humanity, National Night Out and our employees have participated in a lot of 5K walks for things like cancer research,’’ she said. One of the main efforts for Target is “Take Charge of Education” to help the Brevard Schools Foundation. The store gave fixtures to a facility called The Supply Zone for Teachers, which offers 28 VIE RA V I S I O N

free school supplies to teachers who otherwise would have had to pay for the materials themselves. “We built the fixtures for them and helped in a few other ways,’’ Terraglio said. The local efforts by Viera Super Target employees reflect a corporate philosophy to get involved and share information about their volunteerism. According to the company website, “From renovating elementary school libraries and donating food to the hungry, to responding to disasters and reading with students; we encourage team members to choose activities that match their interests.” In 2013, Target team members donated more than 1 million volunteer hours to projects and organizations – surpassing their goal of tracking 700,000 hours annually, and two years ahead of schedule. The corporation has now pledged to track another million hours in 2014. Team members find volunteer opportunities and track their hours at VolunteerMatch.org.

In addition, Target and individual team members nationwide donated more than $15 million, and team members also volunteered more than 204,000 hours as part of the annual United Way campaign. The Target School Library Makeover program is part of Target’s commitment to give $1 billion for education by the end of 2015. Through this and other initiatives, the corporation is helping more children reach academic milestones, such as reading proficiently by the end of third grade. According to company history, community giving was a part of Target’s legacy 60 years before the first Target store opened in 1962. Philanthropy was a core value of The Dayton Company, Target Corporation’s predecessor, which was founded in 1902 by George Draper Dayton. Dayton believed that “success is making ourselves useful in the world, valuable to society and helping in lifting

LEXUS givingatlarge the level of humanity.” He lived his whole life according to that philosophy, giving away a tenth of his income every year and, in 1918, donating $1 million (the equivalent of more than $15 million today) to establish the Dayton Foundation, which was renamed the Target Foundation in 2000. In 1946, The Dayton Company formalized its practice of giving 5 percent of profits to the community, and has kept that commitment alive ever since, supporting partners and programs that enrich the communities where they do business. By 1999, that 5 percent added up to $1 million a week, and by 2002 the number had doubled to more than $2 million a week. It was $3 million per week in 2006, and now equals more than $4 million per week, according to Target’s website. Locally, that corporate philosophy is transmitted regularly down to all employees, Terraglio said. “We have huddles all the time and ask our team members what they might be interested in giving to their communities. A lot of time what interests somebody is what will spark. For our store, we had a team member whose mother was affected by cancer and signed us up for Relay for Life. It has become a five or six year event for us. Last year we donated 400 hours the day of the event. Now, this year, Target has become a national sponsor for Relay for Life and the breast cancer walks,’’ Terraglio said. For more information, visit Corporate.Target.com

Donny Panasis, Sales Manager Lexus of Melbourne is also involved with several local charitable efforts and appreciates its employees being active members of the community at large, said sales manager Donny Panasis. “We are continually finding ways to support our community. We’re a majority sponsor for the Safari Under the Stars fundraiser for the Brevard Zoo, and we help out Light Up Viera each year,’’ he said. Lexus employees also give annually through a charity golf tournament to support March of Dimes March for Babies. This year, the event was held April 13 at the Duran Golf Club in Viera. Other events supported by Lexus of Melbourne include: hosting the American Cancer Society’s Hearts and Diamonds Casino Night on February 15, and hosting the Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce 5th annual Mardi Gras Casino Night on March 14. brings new leadership New School Year

Chris Reed, Principal

Ralph Williams Elementary bid farewell to retiring principal Cynthia Williams this past year and now welcomes principal Chris Reed to the staff. Reed has been involved in education for 14 years, serving the Brevard County school system for the past seven. When asked what he hopes to bring to the school Reed says, “I hope to open the doors of the school and welcome members of the community to participate in their child’s education at any level. We hope to further meet the needs of the twenty-first century learners at Williams by putting technology into their hands. Existing technology will be utilized to its full potential and we will continue to search for ways to meet the diverse learning needs as advancements in technology become available for classroom instruction.” The dedication, knowledge and leadership skills of the teaching staff continue to impress the new principal. Reed says that what excites him most about his new role is “meeting the students, members of the community and staff.”

Michael Alba, Principal

Viera High School has experienced a change in their leadership for the 2014-2015 school year as well. Principal Michael Alba is taking the reigns, making the transition from assistant principal at Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High to principal at Viera High. Alba began his teaching career in 1996, and his experience as a teacher and educational leader have prepared him well for this new venture. “Having the opportunity to work at a school full of talented and dedicated professionals that always puts student needs first is exciting to me,” he says. Principal Alba knows the stellar reputation that Viera High has and that tradition of excellence is something that makes him “love being in a school setting where our community appreciates the hard work our staff does each and every day for our students.” He notes that being in a school where parents play a vital role in reinforcing the strong educational ideals set forth by the staff and administration makes him love his job even more. “I absolutely love coming to work every day.”

High School Football Opener

Friday night football started with light rain and some scattered lightning. Local teams, the Viera Hawks and Rockledge Raiders, were ready to play. The weather postponed the game by only a few minutes and the fans poured into the stadium. The Viera Hawks came prepared as a team with an impressive support group of fans, Hawks families, marching band, cheerleaders and color guard. The team looked organized, tough, smart and physically impressive. The Rockledge Raiders tried to turn the momentum in the second quarter with a touchdown and extra point just before the half, but they could not outplay the powerhouse team on the field. The final score was 53 to 7. The Viera Hawks will play a 10 game season and it looks like Coach Kevin Mays and the team are ready to execute and win!

Devereux School Supply Drive

The Viera Company held a back-to-school supply drive in the local community to support Devereux Florida. Drop-off locations included a model home by local builder Joyal Homes, local restaurant Long Doggers and The Viera Discovery Center. The event collected enough supplies — 2 carloads — to fill every request for a backpack and supplies that Devereux Florida had in Brevard County. In addition, The Viera Company gave a monetary donation of $1,000 for additional supply needs. The Devereux facility leaders thank everyone who participated in this supportive drive. In memory of

DONNA SKATTUM “A genuine smile and truly professional artist is how I would describe Donna Skattum. She worked for this magazine for many years as a dedicated photographer when I personally could not make an event or was expected to be attending in a different capacity. I thought I would share a photo she had taken years ago at a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. She had been taking shots of the crowd before the walk started and just happened to look down at this beautiful little girl with her teddy bear. Donna would express to me later how excited she was to get such a great shot. Donna wasn’t always behind the camera. She made a great jockey at the annual Buck-a-Roo Ball event with her horse costume, playing along and having fun with the local celebrities in the race. Her family and the community will miss Donna. She was a warm and caring person behind a camera that gave us a glimpse of the world around us.”

LIVING IN VIERA

“leap of faith i took that

and have watched this area grow

and flourish.

T “

he word “faith” evokes different interpretations from many people. For me, my walk in faith in Viera began in 1999, when I decided to build a home as a single parent. At that time I did not realize that Viera is a Slavic word for faith. I only knew that a new area of homes that I could afford had been started. I took that leap of faith and have watched this area grow and flourish. I am thankful every day to those who had the foresight and knowledge to create a family-friendly area that continues to offer new opportunities to all. As I look back, I am amazed at the growth in 15 years. I feel blessed to be a very small part of it. Building a stable home for my daughter was the primary reason for moving to Viera when she was five. She was willing to take that leap of faith with me as they built new homes around us. Together, we celebrated with each new opening of businesses and facilities. We grew through exploration. A good friend introduced us to Harmony Farms Inc., Equine Assisted Therapies located on the Duda Ranch on Stadium Parkway. My daughter has Attention Deficit Disorder and back then she had the hyperactivity portion as well. Pam Rogan, the executive director, accepted my daughter into the program and she began to learn to focus and ride a horse. I quickly learned that I had the least challenged child there. I credit the instructors and volunteers with helping my daughter to learn the coping skills that have helped guide her through Viera High School graduation, Eastern Florida State College graduation and on to further her studies at the University of Central Florida.

38 VIE RA V I S I O N

Each week at Harmony Farms I sat in awe on the sidelines as I watched children and adults with serious physical and mental challenges expand and enhance their quality of life through interaction with a horse. The horse is the true motivator helping to build confidence, independence and self-worth. My daughter only rode for three years but I have been a volunteer for 14 years, serving in many different positions. Volunteers are the heart of Harmony Farms. Lessons are very labor-intensive and the program requires many volunteers. While I do not have much horse “experience,” I totally enjoy the fundraising efforts, and have even bestowed upon myself the title of ‘Beggar in Chief.’ I enjoy going out into our community and asking for help and educating those who are not aware of the benefits of therapeutic riding. For many years I have been part of the Harmony Farms Event Committee, which plans all of the fundraising events. Several years ago, while sitting around a table out at the barn, I had the idea of decorating the barn for Christmas with snowflakes, calling it the “Blizzard at the Barn” and inviting the community in to see what we do. This Christmas Open House finds the Harmony Farms horses also decorated for Christmas and folks can feed the horses carrots, children can enjoy pony rides, and a petting zoo. There are vendors and craft tables and admission is free to all. This year the “Blizzard” will take place on Sunday, December 7 from 1-4 p.m. While we do not make snow, you can support Harmony Farms by purchasing a snowflake to decorate our barn or simply join us on that special day.”

VIERA finalnote

Since opening in August, the model homes at Arrivas Village in Viera have generated a lot of buzz in the realty community. Comments like, “I had no idea they were so spacious,” and “You don’t even see your neighbors,” are common. From the outside, the size of the zero-lot line Spanish Colonial style homes on Stadium Parkway is deceiving. Once inside, however, the unique courtyard feature in each home not only gives a sense of openness, but also of a very private oasis — what people imagine when they think of a Florida lifestyle. But the spaciousness of the homes and the privacy are real. The courtyards are truly private; the home next door has no windows adjacent to their neighbor’s courtyard. And, in addition to open floor plans, each home has an optional bonus space above the two-car garage that can be styled in many ways, such as a den with a mini kitchen or an extra bedroom.

Built by Viera Builders, the homes offer additional options such as a separate garage space for a golf cart or a workshop. Arrivas Village, located within walking distance of The Avenue Viera, offers many of the conveniences people associate with more urban-style living: maintenance of the home’s exterior paint and landscaping by the homeowners association, garages at the back of the homes, walking trails along green areas throughout the community, a dog park, and a community pool. Arrivas Village is just one exciting example of the commitment Viera’s home builders have to stay in tune with the desires of today’s home buyers and create unique and innovative home designs that incorporate those desires. Seeing is believing: I invite you to visit the models today and see for yourself.
