PAUL OZ Internationally acclaimed Pop artist, Paul Oz returns to View Art Gallery after two highly successful exhibitions in 2013. The magnitude of his work has become so transcendental that he deserved a solo show to present what is, literally, a beast of a work. Teaming up with the Bristol Zoo Gardens, Paul Oz introduces his new paintings inspired in some of the most awesome animals on Earth. These animals come to life in Paul Oz’ hands by using his distinctive technique, with a palette knife and oil paint. His intensely thick paint application, in places carved 2cm thick, gives his paintings an incredible 3D effect. He aims for them to cast their own shadows, further intensifying the charismatic quality of his art. In addition to these stunning paintings Paul’ has produced an incredible collection of sculpture (Skullptures) based on his most beloved passion of F1 racing. Animal busts are recreated using an astonishing combination of materials, some of whose are taken straight from F1 cars.

SKULLPTURE Paul has created 3 stunning ‘skullptures’ borne out of his passion for F1 racing and an intriguing crossover with the wildlife theme. For the technically minded, here is a description of the pieces including the F1 components and racing connection. SENNA – collaboration with Racing Gold and JLF Designs Museum quality replica of an American lion skull – the biggest cat to haver ever lived, that died out 11,000 years ago. The biggest cat ever in F1? Aryton Senna! Created to mark the 20th anniversary of the legend’s passing, exactly 20 years ago on the opening of ROAR!, 1st May 1994. Nickel plated teeth, articulated using F1 components are bolted to an F1 carbon brake disc. The skull was then airbrushed in Senna’s colours by Jason Fowler who’s been Lewis Hamilton’s helmet painter his whole career and whose helmet colouring is based on Senna’s. RED BULL – collaboration with Racing Gold and C6 carbon A bull’s skull wrapped in 10 layers of real carbon fibre, attached to a ‘boned up’ F1 hans device by Red Bull F1 exhaust linkage vertebrae, and with a front wheel lock nut nose ring – RBR part number still visible. Rubber dipped horns with Pirelli marbles shaved from a raced tyre, 4 engraved championship tally marks and all sat atop a medieval plinth rescued from Selby Abbey. The Red Bull Skullpture has spent a year on show at Red Bull UK HQ, then their home of all things awesome globally, Hangar7 in Salzburg, where it sat next to Baumgartners capsule. ATOMIC KITTEN – collaboration with Racing Gold and Black Badger Composites A jaguar skull articulated with Jaguar F1 components and mounted upon a carbon fibre F1 pit gantry post. Concorde certificated rivets, ultra high output luminous hand machined teeth, and forcibly rusted.

BECAUSE IN A SPLIT SECOND... Siberian Tiger skull, half carbon fibre wrapped, half hand painted with titanium teeth. Mounted upon Ayrton Senna’s rear wing end plate from the last car he drove, his No.2 Williams, atop an F1 plank and period F1 tyre segment.
