Beth Carter From London to New York, Beth Carter’s sculptures and drawings have been making personal connections with a growing fan base. The conflicting emotions evoked by the artist’s imagined characters resonate with every viewer in an individual way. With power there is vulnerability, in fear there is tenderness, in sadness there is beauty. This extraordinary new collection includes some familiar creatures in Minotaur with Moth and Dog Mask Figure, and introduces some new animal and human combinations in Standing Elephant and Grinder’s Monkey. Complimenting the bronze sculptures are equally high-impact drawings, where fantasy meets reality, but with no clear line between the two. In the beautiful and sinister drawings, The Dreaming Chair and The Gathering we are challenged to determine who are the dreamers and who are the dreamed. We are taken on an emotional journey of discovery as we uncover the identities and characters of this evocative artwork. We may be taken back to childhood stories, dreams and nightmares, or memories that lie between truth and imagination. Beth Carter’s art is aesthetically beautiful and at the same time can be uncomfortable as it probes the hidden layers of our thoughts and experiences.
