Christmas in July—and energy savings too! Visalia, California, July 16, 2010--The July 25th Visalia Rawhide baseball game in Visalia has something for everybody, including potential energy savings. Every Southern California Edison customer who brings a strand of traditional incandescent holiday lights can exchange it for new energy-efficient LED light strand for free, while supplies last. The exchange program is part of efforts by VIEW; a local government partnership with the cities of Hanford, Lindsay, Porterville, Tulare, Visalia and the counties of Kings and Tulare, Southern California Edison Company, Southern California Gas Company and the San Joaquin Valley Clean Energy Organization to reduce energy use by 4.5 million kWh! Game time is 6 p.m., but the exchange will begin at 5p.m., when the doors open for general admission, and will run through the first five innings of the game. The Rawhide play at Recreation Park, 300 N. Giddings St. in Visalia. The exchange is part of the Rawhide’s annual “Christmas in July” promotion. There will be holiday decorations, giveaways and other Christmas-themed items in the stadium. LED lights will save you money during the holiday season. They reduce energy consumption by as much as 95% compared with traditional incandescent bulbs, and can produce bright light for up to 20 holiday seasons as they last 30,000 to 50,000 hours. They don’t give off heat, which reduces the risk of fire. LED lights are durable, perform well in cold weather and generate brighter, bolder light color. VIEW is funded by California utility rate payers and administered by Southern California Edison Company and Southern California Gas Company under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission. ###
