Those who wish to subscribe to our digital or mobile version can do so by logging in to our website or dropping us an email @ vytinternational@gmail.com. There is a lot more coming up on our website and magazine for all you yoga seekers.
With great joy, I’d like to inform you all that our magazine is now in its new avatar. We are launching our website (www.sukrit.info) as well as our digital version and mobile app. This makes this month very special for all of us. We hope you will enjoy reading the September issue. This month we have an introductory look at some key topics and concepts you may or may not be familiar with. We explore the body’s energetic system and the science of reversing the flow of consciousness in the article “Pure Yoga”. We take you to the cultural centre of Yogyakarta in Indonesia and explore the fascinating impression and amalgamation of ancient art & sculpture. Yogyakarta has a glorious history and its art, culture & society has been infused with impressions from spirituality. Our mind power is the key to achieving limitless possibilities. But as long as the mind has its own free will and we are slaves to it, it can help us as well as harm us. The lesson that we have been taught by the Spiritual Master (Sadgurudev) is to conquer our mind in order to move ahead on the path of Brahmvidya that leads to realization of the ultimate. “Quieten the Mind” is an article that delves deep into this subject. In our Health section, we explore the Indian Gooseberry (Amla) that has been one of the reasons behind many superfruits doing the rounds of the wellness industry these days. There is also an article on dieting which tries to shake off some myths surrounding the art of losing weight. For all Yoga hungry people, there is a lot this issue can offer. First, there is a very illustrative feature on Sun Salutation or ‘Surya Namaskar’. For those who don’t know, the Sun Salutation is the best set of yoga postures that can fit in easily into your hectic schedule and yet benefit you immensely. There is an article on the meditative asanas as well. And don’t miss out on our lifestyle feature that dishes out a 20-step lifestyle routine which can actually help you transform your life in a few months. All that and a lot more in this issue. Enjoy the read!

"Surya Namaskar" is a practice which refines, sensitizes, and energizes the human being and is a daily reminder of the debt we humans owe to God.
Vol.7/Issue 9/Pg 13
S
urya Namaskar is a Sanskrit word which means obeisance or prostrations (Namaskar) to the sun (Surya). The goal of this exercise is to pay obeisance to the rising sun. The rising sun not only marks the beginning of our day but its rays are a great source of prana or life force. To wake up early in the morning and perform any kind of healthy activity in front of the rising sun is a good habit, and a healthy one too (even if it is unconscious). It could be a walk, tending to the plants, or just standing and observing the beautiful dawn. Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation is the technique of expressing our gratitude to the force that sustains, nourishes and evolves all life on the planet. Surya Namaskar fosters a discipline of mind, body and emotions. Such a practice refines, sensitizes, and energizes the human being and is a daily reminder of the debt we humans owe to

God. This debt can be repaid only by living a clean, pure, disciplined life style – an enactment of the Vedic dictum! The early morning sun’s rays are stimulating to the whole endocrine system. The Mantras stimulate both physical and psychic Nadis (nerves). The eyes are nourished by the early morning light and Vitamin D is absorbed through the skin. The endocrine and exocrine glands are exposed to the early sun’s rays by lifting the hands over the head in Anjali Mudra, a gesture of high respect and reverence, thus exposing the underarms to the healing rays. The early sun’s rays are a well known antiseptic. Harmful germs and bacteria life are destroyed. Different body positions or asanas apply pressure on the organs and skeletal structure, and stimulate blood

circulation. The complete sun salutation consists of 12 positions, which are performed in one continuous flow. Each of the positions stretch the muscles in different ways, and this is complemented by the expanding and contracting of the chest to regulate the flow of breathing. Practicing the Sun Salutation daily helps in keeping the body in shape, sustains the flexibility of spine & other joints, improves circulation of the blood and reduces weight. It is also said that these 12 exercises can stimulate and regulate the functioning of the central nervous system, the optic nerve, the stomach, and help calm your mind. Practicing the Sun Salutation in the sun also replenishes the body with Vitamin D due to early morning sun exposure.
