Exhibition note The group exhibition entitled ‘The Eclectic Embrace’ at Gallery 78 Hyderabad, from 17 October to 31st October 2021, is a case for collegiality to purge the maladies of our times and endorse the republic of imagination with unremitting zeal. The exhibition, showcasing the artworks of Atul Mahajan, Anirban Mishra, Goutam Pal, J. Joseph Dhayalan, Monty Senarath Colombage, Sanjeewa Liyanage, Subrata Ghosh, Tanmay Santra, Tapasi Nath, and Vijayaraghavan.S is a multi-nuanced conversation charting tensional referentiality of pandemic-induced uncertainties, injustices and suffering, censorship and ideological intolerance, cultural dislocation, and identity politics. The works of these ten artists are unabashedly experimental as much as they tease out with devastating precision the life’s intriguing paradoxes buried at some crossroads. The artistic voices are both defiantly confrontational and deeply contemplative in nurturing a discerning space for the plurality of cultures, the triumph of empathetic imagination, and the urgent realities of the uninflected actual. They are unsparing in their enduring commitment to envisioning the lost paradise of shared humanity.

Atul Mahajan Nature is redemptive in reclaiming what is primordial but elusive against an urbanscape where lapsing woefully into any consumerist lingo renders the élan vital of elemental forces susceptible to the obesity of human avarice.

Goutam Pal

Lashings of longing wither into nothingness. Desires drift into the recesses of truth nestling the fledglings, nurturing the food for ontological living!

Goutam Pal I am Goutam Pal, an artist based in Hyderabad. I had finished my MFA in Painting from Santiniketan in 2011 and a regular art practitioner since then. I have participated many national and international shows and had my first solo in 2018. I work on diverse mediums and techniques to expand the boundaries of visual language in my practice. I try to create a paradox of human behaviors from everyday events without a direct representation of human beings. Sometimes it’s autobiographical and leads to a magical representation to construct an invented situation, carrying contents from both art history and memory. pal.goutam81@gmail.com
