Intramural Activities Vikes Intramurals provides opportunities for students, staff/faculty and alumni to participate in team and individual activities through a variety of leagues and tournaments. The program is operated by Vikes Recreation student employees whose intent is to provide activity opportunities and enjoyment to their fellow students. Participants have the opportunity to create their own team of friends or register as an individual and be placed on a team. Register early as most leagues fill before the deadline date! Check our event calendar on page 3 for registration times and dates.
Registering for Intramurals 1 Register for intramurals in person at the Stewart Complex or online Payment of entry fee is required in full when registering. 2 If you wish to play more than one day in a particular sport (ie. volleyball, soccer, ball hockey) you must register for each activity separately. You can only register one team in an activity on one particular day. 3 All participants must be able to show a valid recreation card or proof of registration during league play. Program Fees differ between Recreation members (M) and Non-Members (NM). 4 Late registration - if accepted and space is available after the deadline, teams will be required to pay a $10 late fee and individuals a $5 late fee. 5 Please note that all co-ed teams must include a minimum of 1/3 members of the opposite gender. Leagues not defined by gender are offered to everyone as the Open Division. 6 Want to play with a friend? Be sure to make the request when you register.
MANDATORY TEAM REPRESENTATIVE MEETING
This is a meeting hosted by Vikes Intramurals and all team representatives and singles must attend to be eligible to play. Check our events calendar on page 3 for the times and dates. ELIGIBILITY All University of Victoria students, staff, faculty, alumni and the general public are welcome to participate in Intramural Activities. The program was developed to provide sports opportunities for UVic students who do not participate in other organized sports on campus, and do not have the benefit of professional coaching, scheduling, equipment and facility use. Some eligibility restrictions are necessary to provide fair opportunities for participation. These restrictions were designed by students and reflect the philosophy of Intramural Activities Program at UVic. Individuals deemed ineligible to participate may seek reconsideration by written petition to Recreation. This must be done prior to any participation. Violation of any eligibility rule will result in an automatically-forfeited contest.
16
All team members must be listed on the roster before being allowed to play. Rosters and waivers are due at the participant’s clinic. Any changes to the roster must be made by the deadline set out in the league schedule. ROSTERS MUST INCLUDE THE PHONE NUMBERS AND UVic ID NUMBERS (if applicable) OF ALL PLAYERS. Teams will not be allowed to ‘pick up’ players not registered on the roster.

SKILL LEVELS AND TIERING SYSTEM Competition is divided into divisions: true seed, open, coed, men and women. The Intramural Activities Program offers two skill levels of competition: competitive and recreational. Each player or team is encouraged to consider the level that best suits their ability. - Competitive leagues are for players whose skill level is average to above average, and who want to compete in a competitive environment. Competitive leagues have playoffs and standings and are often tiered for different playing abilities. - Recreational leagues are for players, whose skill level is generally less than average, and are most interested in playing for pure enjoyment and may be new to the sport. These leagues are geared for PARTICIPATION, not COMPETITION.
FAIRPLAY PROGRAM
The IMA program will guarantee that your team will be scheduled for a certain amount of games (depending on the league), however we cannot guarantee the number of games a team will play. The IMA program does not refund money to teams who receive byes due to changes during the season because of teams defaulting, dropping out of the league, the loss of games to weather, the loss of games to facility changes, etc. All efforts will be made to ensure that all teams play their required games.
Default bonds will be refunded at the conclusion of the season. Teams that have paid a default bond will need to pick up their refund at the Vikes Recreation Office. Teams that fail to retrieve their bonds after two months will have forfeited their bond to the Intramural Activities program. Awards for league winners and fair play teams will be distributed at the end of the term. They can also be picked up at the Recreation Office for two weeks after the completion of the league. Awards will not be available after this date. No exceptions.
seasonal and schedule information For seasonal and schedule information, pick up the latest Informal Recreation schedule located in the Recreation information displays or visit us online at
VikesRec.uvic.ca
Sportsmanship is one of our many priorities. Participation in Intramural activities should be first and foremost a fun experience. The fairplay program is an integral part of maintaining a safe, fun and enjoyable atmosphere for all involved in Intramural Activities. The fairplay program rewards those teams that compete in a sportsmanlike manner. The program does not allow those teams with a record of poor sportsmanship to participate in league playoffs. It is the goal of this program to make all participants aware of the important of sportsmanship (in sports and in life) and fairplay to make Intramural activities more enjoyable for all who participate.
PARTICIPATION FEES AND REFUNDS A playing fee is required to register for all intramural activities and must be paid at the time the registration is made. The playing fee will be refunded in full if the league, or event is cancelled by the Intramural activities. Refunds (minus admin fee) are available if the withdrawal or transfer is done before the posted start date. There are no refunds made after the deadline. Failure to field a team, show up, failure of opponents to show up; or otherwise dropping out of the league are not acceptable reasons for a refund.
