WHEN I HAD TO DESIGN A MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART AND CRAFT FOR ST KILDA MY MASSING STUDIES WERE MORE INCLINED TOWARDS REFERENCING FORMS AND SYMBOLS FROM THE PROMINENT LANDMARKS IN ST KILDA. SUCH AS THE ARCH OF THE PALAIS THEATRE, THE STRUCTURAL ROLLERCOASTER CHARACTER OF THE LUNA PARK AND THE FREE-FLOWING CURVES OF THE CATANI GARDENS. SO, THE FORM OF THE BUILT LANDSCAPE EMBODIES A DESIGN LANGUAGE THAT AMALGAMATES AND MARRIES THESE FEATURES OF THESE 3 PROMINENT LANDMARKS.

THESE EXTRUSIONS ALSO EMPLOY THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY BY HOUSING SOLATUBES, WHICH CONVERGES AND STORES SOLAR ENERGY AND REDIRECTS THE LIGHT INTO INTERIOR SPACES AS STUDIO LIGHTING.
AS TECHNOLOGY HAS REVOLUTIONISED AND PRODUCED NEW WAYS TO DRAW PEOPLE TO ART THE ARCHITECTURE MUST BE FUTURE READY. PROJECT BRIEF
project brief | design concept | site plan SITE LOCATION
‘New Van Bhavan’ is an office complex for the state government of madhya pradesh - Department of Forest. It comprises of 4 main departments. The design had to accommodate all space requirements as per the hierarchy of the working staff and their occupational relationship, with a non traditional appeal, which will make it stand out. On the whole, there has to be moments, where one experiences the space to be different from the traditional government buildings. role in project

During my time, I led the interior planning team in reorganising the layouts as per the updated requirements. I also worked on facade detail drawings, Billing of quantities, 3D model and renders.
The Campus building accommodate consolidated offices for 4 main departments (Forest, Eco-tourism, Federation, and Corporation) for which the built form is organised into 3 main blocks - A, C, and E respectively with interconnecting blocks - B and D to accomodate common facilities for the main blocks. THE FACADE HAS TO BE FLUIDIC SO AS TO RESPOND TO AN ORGANIC FORM WHERE THE BOUNDARIES BETWEEN DIFFERENT PROGRAMMES ARE MERGED WITH INTERNAL CONNECTIVITY THROUGH COURTYARDS AND THE CORRIDORS FLOWING THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING.
THE FOUR DEPARTMENTS ARE FUNCTIONALLY INDEPENDENT, BUT LOOSELY INTEGRATED BY A NETWORK OF PATHS AND GREEN. THE EXTERIOR FACADE RESPONDS TO THE FLUIDITY OF THE PROGRAMME WITH THREE DIFFERENT TRANSPARENCIES, THAT IS GLASS, LOUVERS AND OPAQUE SURFACES-WALLS.

CONCEPT STATEMENT
SITE PLAN
India is land of diverse creative fields. To celebrate it’s grandeur there exists no space which is coherent to it’s art forms. Museums are not a space to just exhibit but should also invigorate the artisans. Hence the objective is to break the non stereotypical idea of a museum through a design with thought process concomitant to it’s art form. INSPIRATION
site location LOCATION: MYSORE, KARNATAKA, INDIA SITE AREA: 46633 Sq.m HEIGHT OF THE BUILDING: 18 METERS SETBACKS FRONT AND BACK : 14.0M
Rangoli being an evolving art form and tradition in India, precedes sculpture and painting. The art form basically is a process of connecting a centre point on the ground and cardinal points around it, usually in geometrical patterns .
SITE CONTEXT: MYSORE IS REFERRED TO AS CULTURAL CAPITAL OF SOUTH KARNATAKA.IT IS THE PLACE OF ORIGIN FOR FEW NOTABLE ARTISTIC SCHOOLS LIKE VIJAYANAGAR PAINTING SCHOOL. THE HISTORIC BELUR AND HALEBID TEMPLES ARE LOCATED FEW MILES FROM HERE
For any Museum, Circulation is the key, which has to be simple, engaging and unconstraint. Hence Rangoli is a perfect domain to explore various geometric patterns and find the right circulation pattern for a Musuem.

PROJECT REQUIREMENT
apartment massing and it’s social impact
SITE
The Rising demand for accomodation in urban areas are counteracted with Mulltistorey apartment buildings. But the direction of the building sector not only impacts the potential green space the site offers, but also has a psychological impact on it’s residents. Is there a solution that can solve the above problem, at the same time satisfy the demand for housing in such urban areas? concept
PERUNGUDI LAKE
The typical apartment massing found in India Is basically a cluster of symmetrical blocks having small courtyard spaces for ventilation, which are typically dead spaces. This not only takes up a considerable amount of space in the site but also inhibits the interactive neighbourhood character.
w
FORMATION OF SMALL COURTYARDS LOOK VISUALLY CRAMPED AND ARE LESS USED.
site location
Every site area has a potential area for softscape. To counteract this, the Idealogy was to achieve a design, compensating the potential green spaces occupied by the built form both vertically and horizontally, which not only reduces the urban heat effect but also enhances the quality of living and interaction among the residents.

CONCEPT STATEMENT
HOOGLY RIVER
When a Hotel design calls for an iconic structure , Should the aesthetics trade off the functionality, compromising on the best orientation and visual comfort? Should the high end user be the one who gets to enjoy all the benefits? The objective of the design is to enable the iconic design to drive the functionality of the tower achieving best views and room orientation for all its guests.

ABOUT THE PLANNING THE HOTEL ZONING BASICALLY FOLLOWS THE IDEA OF A TOWER MOUNTED ON A PODIUM SLAB, WHERE THE PODIUM BEING HORIZONTAL IS IDEAL FOR COMMON SPACES AND THE TOWER BEING VERTICAL IS BEST SUITED FOR ACCOMODATION OF ROOMS WHILST OFFERING GREAT VIEWS OF THE SURROUNDINGS. TO ENSURE HASSLE FREE CIRCULATION, THE HOTEL FEATURES SEPARATE ENTRIES AND LOBBY SPACES FOR HOTEL GUESTS AND BANQUET HALL GUESTS WITH AN INTERCONNECTING PATHWAY BETWEEN THE TWO.

DUE TO THE STAGGERED ARRANGEMENT OF ROOMS, NICHES ARE FORMED IN FRONT OF EACH ROOM ENTRANCE, WHICH AESTHETICALLY DEFINES THE CORRIDOR & FUNCTIONALLY OFFERS A BUFFER SPACE FOR SERVICE STAFF OR GUESTS TO WAIT.
THE LONGER SIDE OF THE TOWER HAS BEEN ORIENTED PARALLEL TO THE EAST WEST AXIS TO MINIMISE THE SURFACE AREA DIRECTLY EXPOSED TO WESTERN SUN
THE STAGGERED ARRANGEMENT OF ROOMS WITH DEEP BALCOINIES ACTS AS A SELF SHADING WALL, WHICH FURTHER REDUCES THE COOLING LOAD OF THE BUILDING
