TIMELESS DESIGN & QUALITY - EXPLORATIVE PLAY - STRIVING TO DO GOOD
The start of our sustainability journey is on!
Since 2018 we have been working hard on our sustainability and our transition to circular economy. With the launch of Ecoline, a plant-based polyethylene, derived from sugarcane ethanol, as opposed to the polyethylene from oil, and continuous work with sustainability expert Mette BakAndersen we continue to travel on this very exciting and important journey. 2023 we are proud and have the privilege to launch a new toy line made entirely of recycled plastics: RE:LINE
RE:LINE is made from recycled plastics. Some in recycled PP, Polypropylene, and some in recycled PE, Polyethylene, depending on the qualities they toy is desired to have.
They toy only have 1 type of plastic in the entire toy. This to make it fully recyclable afterwards.
RE:LINE uses plastic waste to prevent it from ending up in landfills or in our oceans. The recycled material comes from the recycling facility in the northern Vietnam.
Used plastics are sorted, cleaned and shredded into flakes. These flakes are the raw material for the toys.
This is then used in our factory in Southern Vietnam to produce the toys to the same high standards and quality as all our other lines.
RE:LINE is certified with the RCS certification, the Recycled Claim Standard. The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) is an international, voluntary standard that sets requirements for third-party. It is a chain of custody standard to track recycled raw materials through the supply chain. Both our supplier of recycled material and our manufacturing factory has the certification.
v To increase recyclability we have decrease amount of materials to only 1 type
v Long lasting and high quality
v Out doors & in doors
v Safety certified and dishwasher safe.
v Made from recycled plastic and fully recyclable.
The journey of sustainable and ethical production is one we all are on. Its a group effort! We know it takes time but we also know everyone can do their part.
We are so happy and so proud to be able to launch this line on the market under 2023. Its the result of a continues learning and hard work.
This is only the beginning!

Sustainability is important to us, to produce in a responsible way is important to us. During 2021 we decided to start, or continue and focus on, our sustainability journey. For this major, and continuing, project we decided to take in expert help and have worked close together with Mette Bak-Andersen, a designer and researcher with a PhD in sustainable design and materials from the Royal Danish Academy of Architecture & Design.
The aim of this project together with Mette is to improve the current situation towards a more sustainable production setup and products. This by addressing sustainability on both a systemic and strategic level, and on a product and materials level. Potential results: Reducing CO2footprint, reducing waste, improving material circularity, identifying new circular business opportunities and defining a strategy for sustainability for the future.
This project included analyse of the Viking Toys setup: product range, production, market, materials, personal, resources, ambitions etc., in order to clarify strengths, limitations and potential in relation to sustainability.
Working to identify and addressing barriers, potentials and projects that can improve sustainability for us. We received lectures, had guided exercises, and hours of discussions. Subjects like circular business models, strategy, ambitions, customers, market, future, design for circularity, sustainability in materials, production setup, transportation, packaging etc.
When it comes to durability and quality, our toys speak for themselves. Viking Toys started producing the first toys in 1974 and some of these toys are still being played with today. We design for durability and our designs are not time specific. We use only the highest quality materials to ensure guaranteed safety. We always submit our toys to severe testing to ensure safety and strength also this to ensure top safety.
Different types of toys will engage the child in different ways of playing. Viking Toys are designed for explorative and open-ended play. We design our toys to be used with elements such as soil, sand and water, which will encourage the child to explore nature using their senses and motor-functions. All our toys can be used outdoors and can be washed in the dishwasher. There are no defined stories attached to the toy and no instructions of how to use the toy. This inspires open-ended play, which stimulates the child’s imagination and creativity.
We take our responsibility for the environment seriously. That does not mean that we have all the answers, but we strive to do the best we can and consider sustainability in all aspects of our products and company. We never compromise on quality and durability. We strive to have no waste in our production – e.g. all plastic waste from the production is recycled and used at the factory and we reuse the water for cooling of our machines. Our toys will last for generations and we encourage play for generations as we call it, meaning the toys can easily be past on to more children for play. All our toys are designed for disassembly, are fully recyclable and made from materials that are easily recycled worldwide. We care about the people working with us! We want to make sure that all people involved with Viking Toys are being cared for and respected in all ways
Seen through ISO 26000 / Agenda 2030

8.1 Sustain per capita economic growth in accordance with national circumstances and, in particular, at least 7 per cent gross domestic product growth per annum in the least developed countries Involve and engage.
Strived contribution: The use of local small-scale producers for example in packaging design /production and catalogue printing.
8.4 Improve progressively, through 2030, global resource efficiency in consumption and production and endeavour to decouple economic growth from environmental degradation, in accordance with the 10-year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production, with developed countries taking the lead
12.2 By 2030, achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources
Strived contribution: Phase out oil-based plastics by 2030. Minimize transport emissions. Reduce packaging materials. Environmentally friendly packaging. Investigate opportunities to use recycled plastic, train customers in recycling.
8.8 Protect labour rights and promote safe and secure working environments for all workers, including migrant workers, in particular women migrants, and those in precarious employment
Strived contribution: Working with certified suppliers and also more control by having an employed person on site in production. Less control on subcontractors.
12.8 By 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature.
Strived contribution: Focus on product safety. Ongoing work with agreements and working methods to ensure regulatory compliance (GDPR) as well as sales platform and CRM system.
