Ende der 80er Jahre: Fischer Möbel war auf der Suche nach neuen Ideen. Und fragte bei Kurt Ranger nach. Da traf es sich gut, dass er schon einige Ideen im Kopf hatte, die Fischer Möbel aufgriff und mit eigenen Materialideen umsetzen wollte. So wurde aus der Idee ein langjähriges Projekt. Die TennisKollektion entstand, eine Designlinie wurde entwickelt und Fischer Möbel gewann Profil: Kurt Ranger entwarf ein neues Erscheinungsbild mit einem neuen Fischer Möbel Logo, ein neuer Messestand kommunizierte den frischen Wind in den Fachhandel. Fischer Möbel begann, sich neu zu erfinden.
End of the 80s and Fischer Möbel was searching for new ideas – and got in touch with Kurt Ranger. It worked a treat as he already had a few ideas in his head that Fischer Möbel took up and wanted to implement using its own material ideas. The idea has since turned into a long-term project. The Tennis Collection was created, a new design line was developed and Fischer Möbel has gained in profile – Kurt Ranger designed a new image together with a new Fischer Möbel logo, a new trade show stand communicates the breath of fresh in the furnishing trade. Fischer Möbel began to reorientate itself.
Kurt Ranger absolvierte vor seinem Studium ein einjähriges Praktikum bei Porsche in Zuffenhausen, davon 6 Monate im gerade gegründeten Studio von Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, Porsche Design. Von 1972 bis 1976 studierte er an der Fachhochschule für Gestaltung in Schwäbisch Gmünd, unter anderem bei dem Hochschul-Gründungsrektor Professor Karl Dittert. 1975 gewann er für seinen Entwurf eines Elektro-Winkelschleifers einen „Bundespreis Gute Form“. Es folgte eine Anstellung bei Karl Dittert, ab 1980 war er freier Mitarbeiter bei dem Möbeldesigner Jürgen Lange. 1981 eröffnete er mit der Grafik Designerin Cornelia Frank in Partnerschaft das Designbüro Frank + Ranger in Stuttgart. 1998 gründete er das interdisziplinäre Gestaltungsbüro Ranger Design in Stuttgart. In den letzten Jahren beschäftigte sich Ranger Design intensiv mit Museen, Erlebniswelten und Showrooms. So wurde das Badische Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe eingerichtet, für Hörmann entstand das Hörmann Forum, für Hilti wurden am Firmensitz in Liechtenstein Ausstellungsinseln zum Thema Innovation geschaffen, für OSRAM entstand die World of Light, für die Europäische Zentralbank das Visitor Centre, für den FC Bayern München die FC Bayern Erlebniswelt und – für Fischer Möbel – der Showroom. So schließen sich Kreise.
Before studying, Kurt Ranger absolved a one-year internship at the Porsche headquarters in Zuffenhausen. Six months were spent in the studio – Porsche Design – that was being set up at the time by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. From 1972 to 1976, he studied at the “Fachhochschule für Gestaltung” (University of Design) in Schwäbisch Gmünd, where he was taught by, amongst others, the founding rector, Professor Karl Dittert. In 1975, he won the national “Bundespreis Gute Form” award for his design for an electric angle grinder. He was then employed by Karl Dittert. From 1980, he worked as a freelancer for the furniture designer Jürgen Lange. Together with the graphic designer Cornelia Frank, he opened the Frank + Ranger Design Office in Stuttgart in 1981. Later in 1998, he founded the inter-disciplinary Ranger Design Office in the same city. In the recent past, it has turned its attentions intensively to museums, themed environments and showrooms. It led to the furnishing of the “Badische Landesmuseum” in Karlsruhe, the Hörmann Forum was created for Hörmann, exhibition islands centring on the topic of innovation were established for Hilti at its headquarters in Liechtenstein, OSRAM was given its World of Light and the European Central Bank its Visitor Centre, the “Bayern Erlebniswelt” museum was created for the Bayern Munich football club and Fischer Möbel boasted a new showroom. Everything turns full circle.
