LIVE ON AN ISLAND IS FASCINATING. People come here to a tropical island looking for the magic, expecting to find romance when they can’t find it any other place but it’s an island, if you don’t bring it here, you won’t find it here.

Living on Islands is problematic everywhere and mostly depends on infrastructures available. The most emblematic example we can refer to is a Maldive’s island, which is self-contained island-hotel: their guests can only have what the hotel is providing.

When, on the island you go, there is nothing to make living there ease, you have to arrange everything you may need to make your life comfortable and safe.

Maybe due to the high price of the land, either by habit in the Southeast Asia and Bali, first of all, to build their houses with minimum land space, today we see residential areas

also luxury ones constructed so close enough to challenge the obscene. There are resorts today, with fancy names like “boutique resort”, “SPA resort”, selling vil-

las of 1-2-3 bedrooms in what can be defined as condominiums, as they have some shared facilities but have partition walls to divide them from the house next door. Often

Balinese bathrooms are made for this type of villa which is partially in open air and walls around are unavoidable. Don’t even think to talk to your wife in the next room or outside because neighbors can’t avoid to listen to you. This is exactly the heavy level of cosmopolitan development that western inhabitants are escaping from.

These kind of resorts on the mainland are still an acceptable thing as they have access to a road and maybe even have a garage or a parking space.

Imagine what this will be on a small island where are not even allowed motorbikes.

Who buys these villas, only have small paths to access their homes. Owner cannot have own means of transport nor a boat because he hasn’t a place to moor it and if all the owners want a boat to move around or go fishing, this resort would need a port. A coral island is always surrounded by coral reef that emerges at low tide and makes it impossible to reach the beach. If this lucky owner of this villa does not want to get stuck in

In an emergency, if you don’t have a boat and a car, you can certainly ask for help, daytime, but you may die waiting for it.

On mainland Lombok I know a huge Resort partially completed gone totally unsold in past 8 years. I cannot imagine the future of similar resort on a small island or isolated areas without any infrastructure whatsoever. In my believe, such a resort namely is “a place with facilities for vacationers” can be done if arranged as an Hotel and even in

this case have to provide full services to the vacationers because they have no possibility to go out for food nor cook by themselves because supermarkets aren’t available.

In our case, even if I love to go out for dinner sometime, I made things so to be com-

pletely independent as far as food concerned, communication: namely telephone and Internet, payTV, water, electricity and transport.

I made a jetty outside the gate of the villa, where to moor my boat in deep water so that even with low tide my boat is floating and I can get onboard. I purchased land on mainland where I made another jetty to dock and a garage where my car is parked.

Weekly or so we go to town and do the shopping and moreover we have storage

room with huge shelves and fridges, chiller and top freezers to safely store our food.

I had to do this to provide the required comfort for a private residence, we can easily understand that we need a similar but bigger organization to run a resort and it’s impossible to do it in such a structure where the space available is so narrow unless the resort is providing everything including full board. In other words, is useless to have a kitchen if there is no place where to do shopping. Moreover, who’s going to buy a villa

in such resort where to stay long term without transportation.

The sentence “if you don’t bring it here, you won’t find it here” isn’t true only for the romance but for every single thing you may need.

The word Paradise is abused by real estate agents in their listings but absolutely appropriate for our Villa Centofiori, where we spent our utmost energies to create a place that is absolutely friendly, isolated but not segregated, with large spaces to relax, access to the sea in any condition, a pool that is not just a puddle, lakes and water flowing in the park with its lovely sound, the possibility staying in the sun but also to choose a place in the shadows of a grove. We have large quantities of fresh water that is the

basic lack for people living on any island. In an area with no telephone land line, we made it possible to communicate with the outside and with loved ones with phone and a good WiFi internet access throughout the Villa, a house extremely comfortable and a kitchen that any chef would appreciate.

These are just the basic things that Villa Centofiori vouch for.
