Today the keyword is “hot deal” otherwise it is not a convenient purchase!

Increasingly, in recent years, I noticed in Lombok but also in the now sophisticated and overly urbanized Bali, unreasonable carelessness in taking steps in tourism

business not only by local entrepreneurs but also by Australians and Europeans who are trying to invest in tourist construction activities chaotically and approximate in a country where there is no building programming.

To achieve something decent, it is often only need common sense, reasonableness and real desire to bring something to fruition whereas entrepreneurs expect the hot deal, the impressive deal that makes them rich easily and effortlessly perhaps using the funds of others or looking for financial backers for their own ideas.

The alternative that I see to pursue is to follow in the footsteps of others who have been successful, “if he made it, so do I...It means that it is profitable�, or wait for the crumbs from others’ successful activity, settling in its vicinity.

Small businesses often start near a large Resort to absorb those who are not willing to spend that much they ask.

We saw bizarre projects unable to take off and failed quickly. There are also examples anywhere of large tourism enterprises remained completely unsold for over 10years.

Villas for sale in Resort compressed so as to be hardly endured, some of them, more than others considering they are on small islands with no infrastructures whatsoever.

The way and the themes of these failures are always more or less the same: the entrepreneurs do not bother to evaluate the initiative in the reality of the place, the infrastructure unavailable and most important, do not care about the needs of vacationers who are also their source of income, do not care then cuddle them and meet their needs, but only to exploit them beyond belief.

In addition, the environment always pay excessively for human errors.

The resort (pic above) was built on an island, obviously no sewers and in proximity of the sea; it is easy to imagine what will happen to the waste water of so many buildings as there is no physical space for the appropriate septic dispersion after purification. We have a scenario even worse if we consider the waste disposal of the guests of such a complex. Even in the city there are NO facilities for waste disposal and here we are in a small island and in a structure without any chance to fix it.

Very often I receive mail offers, during the low season, which are more expensive than what I pay to them in high season but are disguised to look like a " hot deal " and this is obscene.

There are two essential assessments to do that help a lot in developing a right choice: - Vacationers, many of them are tired of overcrowded "trendy" places and seeking, places to really be able to download the stress accumulated during a year of work in the western frantic society and then shun those famous Resorts that increasingly resemble their everyday’s life.

- Vacationers, many of them, like the level of comfort that can not give up or seek it intentionally during a holiday and not always keen to accept an arrangement where the room is uncomfortable, the bathroom is indecent, the shower water is brackish and the food inedible.

All these issues we have noticed and sometimes deal with, living on a small island in the SW of Lombok, Indonesia.

My wife and I, over 15 years ago, we chose this location, in search of a place far away from civilization, where certain values of healthy life in a pristine surrounding were present and there wasn’t a possibility that these values could disappear in a short time. Nevertheless we made sure that even in the absence of infrastructures, those services, that we have always considered necessary for a comfortable and satisfactory life, could be created.

The electrical power to activate the services and water without excessive mineral deposits and brackish having the intention to create a park with flowers and plants that cannot withstand even a slight salinity, the presence of mobile phone coverage, a satellite link to receive TV channels, an Internet connection satisfactory.

Over the years, we have thrived in the tranquility of our paradise and created something really exquisite, thanks to the large spaces dedicated to agreeable activities to relax in the tropical lush green of our park and we have implemented all those services producing an high level of comfort.

We always helped local communities living on the island to pursue a higher level of development with donations, land for their cemetery, a generator and a full line of lighting the village in addition to help build decent toilet for each family.

We made sure a constant and unlimited supply of pure water from a spring that we discovered, with which we were able to cover the daily human requirement, built a swimming pool, lakes where we fed fish, water paths, fountains and waterfalls that give us the amazing sound of flowing water downstream back into the lake.

We made multiple functional septic tanks for every single function, where sewage and sludge are treated separately. For the kitchen and the laundry room we built separately wells degreasers upstream septic tanks.

We have a jetty out the front door where our boat is moored with which we are connected, in any condition of tide, the mainland (650m away) where another dock is connected with our garage and our car.

With a radio link we have secured an ADSL2 internet connection from a land line 30km away.

Some small hotels on the island were started in the following years but have never developed in any way, primarily because of the lack of fresh water and electricity without even meeting the basic needs of the back-packers. Not rarely vacationers have knocked on our door asking for accommodation but also to provide them food. In some cases we helped them but always friendly and for free.

Today, the road link to the city has been much improved and there are many tourist activities on our island and its neighbors. There are about 13 islands, some even uninhabited starting to have essential hotel facilities as well as more pretentious, despite the obvious and unavoidable difficulties inherent to life on a small island and in the absence of water wells with "decent" water even if desalinated. Our property has been for years the only one within several kilometers range to have a complex structure housing, articulated and unimaginable services to the local standard, in addition to electricity 24 hours a day and fresh water in abundance.

Failing the conditions of "perfect isolation" that led us to create and enjoy this paradise and our advancing age, we decided to sell what we have created and move to another residence.

With this decision, as I said previously, we faced problems new to us. Those who have, so far, come to visit for a possible purchase proved to be ready for a "hot deal" perhaps thinking that who sells, especially something valuable, is forced by need.

Fortunately in our decision, we can wait for a buyer that will really appreciate to take advantage of what (the lot) we have to offer and do not expect to get it for a pittance, next to nothing‌ PENNIES.
