elder update
Think fast – what is our purpose as a church? Why has God placed Village Bible Church in Aurora, Sugar Grove and Indian Creek? What is our primary calling through which everything else funnels and through which our “success” is to be measured? The old adage that goes something like this, “If you don’t set a goal, or a mark, you’ll miss it every time,” is true.
Village Bible Church desires to be a family of growing believers committed to glorifying God by reaching our world with the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ. Hopefully this sounds familiar, as it is the official vision statement – the everyday commission - of our church. It is our hope and desire that as a church we would be a family that cares for each other and together strives, above all, to bring glory to God. One way we do this is by sharing the life-changing truth of Jesus Christ with the world. www.villagebible.org/elder
Sharing the truth of Jesus takes many different shapes and can happen every day. Summertime does, however, provide some unique opportunities through mission trips and Vacation Bible School. This year, Lord willing, we will have 40-50 people participating in mission trips and over 150 people sharing Christ with the 500+ children who will attend Vacation Bible School at one of our three locations - and the majority of these children are not part of our church family. As you read about some of these opportunities, we hope that you will not just read and then forget, but that you will take part by (1) praying regularly for the preparation and the actual ministry, (2) serving by investing your own time and energy, and (3) giving of your financial resources. We are excited to see how God will grow us and use us this summer. These are indeed encouraging times!

God has blessed our Children’s Ministry with many wonderful workers, without whom we wouldn’t be able to provide the many opportunities our children have to grow in their faith. Throughout the year we are going to highlight different volunteers, allowing them to share what role they play in our ministry, but more importantly, to share how God has blessed them through their service to our children. How many years have you been working in children’s ministry?
Karen and I started working in children’s ministry once we started to have children, which would be 2005. What have been some of your responsibilities?
We began serving in the nursery and with the 2yr olds. Then for the last 3yrs I’ve been the Awana Commander for our church. How has God blessed you through your service in children’s ministry?
I think, for me, I’ve been so blessed with the Awana program. I grew up my whole life in Awana, and I always wanted my kids to have the joy and opportunity to be a part of an Awana program. I love seeing our clubbers have this awesome opportunity, to see them study and hide God’s word in their hearts. I love the excitement of seeing our leaders interact with these clubbers each week. This is such a wonderful ministry, and I believe with all my heart that God can do such amazing things through these kids and this ministry.

missionary of the month
Karney and Lydia Dunah serve with ULICAF (United Liberia
Inland Church Associates & Friends). ULICAF began in the year 2000 as an informal organization of Liberian refugees who had suffered first-hand the devastation of their country wrought by a fourteen-year civil war which left the nation without most basic human needs. Members and friends of ULICAF are eager for renewal and redemption of their homeland. They are responding to three critical need of the Liberian churches and immigrants.
Spiritual Mental -
F ocusing on spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through church planting, evangelism and discipleship.
P romoting intellectual development of deserving students through college education, technical and professional training.
Physical -
Hope Farm program provides support to local farmers.
VISION - Individuals empowered to transform lives by revealing God and His kingdom. MISSION - Creating opportunities to serve Christ. This year Village Bible Church is going on a short-term missions trip to Liberia on June 9-20. The focus of this trip will be helping with construction of an addition to ULICAF facilities in Ganta. We will make bricks in the true African fashion and help lay the foundations of buildings as we expand the buildings of Liberia International Christian College. We’ll be doing whatever building that they need for us to do. There are also opportunities to share with students in local schools, share devotionals, take part in a worship service, and share with the students of the Bible school You can find out more about ULICAF by visiting their websites at www.ulicaf.org and www.liberiainternationalcc.org.
