A Rural Escape
You still can't cross the border but you CAN head north for a fun mini-holiday this summer! Treat yourself to a small-town experience and rural getaway right here in Whatcom County. We, of course, recommend starting your day at Village Books in Lynden before exploring the other unique shopping, dining, and entertainment experiences available downtown. Then round out the day by heading to a park, the beach, a farm stand, and more! Here are just a few places we think you may enjoy:
Enjoy Downtown
• The Lynden Pioneer Museum Im-
merse yourself in the history of Lynden and Whatcom County at the Lynden Pioneer Museum. Full of unique displays, this little gem houses the largest horse-drawn buggy collection west of the Mississippi River.
• The Jansen Art Center—with two
floors of exhibit space, a café and gallery shop, creative art studios, and a performance hall, the J is a bright, lovely place for all to enjoy.
• Lynden Skateway—Locally owned & operated, this family-friendly roller skating rink is the perfect escape for all ages.
Rural Recreation
• The Lynden Farmers Market is located at Centennial
Park Saturdays 10am-2pm June-September. • Bellewood Farms —Enjoy touring Western Washington’s largest apple farm! You can also visit their store, cafe, and distillery. • Farm Fun —The abundance of farms and dairies in the area provide ample opportunity for picking, shopping, sampling, and touring. • Birch Bay or Semiahmoo Spit at low tide is great for
clam digging and beachcombing. The always popular Birch Bay Waterslides is the quintessential summer experience. • Station 49 near Blaine boasts an 18-hole miniature golf course, a Go-Kart track, a miniature train ride through 10 acres of forest, and now a saloon for the big kids.
Hit the Parks
• Mega Playground at Million Smiles Park—The playground features a tot lot,
climbing wall, swings, jungle gym, a castle maze, and a 35ft. tall tree house with a slide. • Berthusen Park —A farm homestead built in 1883, the park includes picnic areas, a playground, old-growth forest for hiking, an interpretive trail, and a collection of antique tractors. • Bender Fields—Also known as Bender Family Recreation Park, visitors can enjoy the baseball, soccer, and lacrosse fields, picnic tables, a bocce ball court, a playground, and even a pump track.

Sat., July 17, 10:30am 2021 Lynden Farmer's Day Parade
The tradition continues on an untraditional day. As the longest held event in the Northwest, the Lynden Farmer's Day Parade is a celebration and salute to the agriculture industry of Whatcom County. Starting at 10th St. and running east along Front St. to 3rd St., an eclectic menagerie of cars, bands, tractors, trucks, and horses will bring smiles to the faces of young and old alike!

With live entertainment, a carnival, demolition derby, tractor pull, commericial vendors, food booths, animals, kids activities, agricultural exhibits and more, the fair is fun for the whole family. Now extended to 10 days long!
