SALUTATION HALF-MARATHON & YOGA NIDRA PRACTICE Wednesday, January 1 | 10:30 am–12 pm Continue a Village New Year’s tradition and ring in 2020 with two ancient Yoga tradition—Sun Salutations and Yoga Nidra. We will begin with the ancient tradition of Sun Salutations to honor and celebrate the connection between endings and beginnings. We will end with the ancient practice of Yoga Nidra, a deeply relaxing guided meditation that will allow you to deeply imprint your most heartfelt new year intentions! Modifications will be offered so that someone who has never practiced yoga can experience the power and benefits of this sacred practice. We will complete six rounds of nine Sun Salutations, with a restorative moment between each round. Do 1, 9, 27, or all 54! NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! Cost: FREE Sign-up: on the Village App

G JANUARY MYZONE CHALLENGE

January 1–31 Kick off the New Year right with a monthlong challenge utilizing the amazing Myzone heart rate belts! Track your workouts intensity, duration, calorie burn, percent of maximal heart rate, and MEPs. We will be offering prizes for the top MEPs (Myzone Effort Points) earner as well as several other prizes throughout the challenge. Compete with other class participants, family, and friends in this challenge that will rev up your cardio and functional workouts! Cost: FREE Sign-up is automatic for those who already have a Myzone belt registered with Gainey Village. Steve has been teaching Lindy Hop/Swing dancing for more than 23 years and has traveled around the world teaching, including tours in Europe and Asia. He was recently featured on ABC’s The Bachelorette, HGTV’s House Hunters, NBC’s Forever Young, Arizona Highways TV, and in USA Today. Monday, January 6–Saturday, February 15 Join us for our New Year FIT Challenge to get back in shape and/or in better shape after the holidays! These challenging small group classes will get you on track with your fitness goals. We will utilize the InBody assessment before and after to check your progress with body fat, body weight, and lean muscle mass. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female for biggest improvement via InBody assessment. Keep on track with the support of fellow members and trainers in this motivating small group format! O MIND/BODY CHALLENGE—

A MINDFUL START TO 2020 Monday, January 6–Thursday, February 6 Let’s get 2020 off to a mindful and healthy star—together! Join us for an opportunity to stop, breathe, and establish healthy eating and mindfulness practices in 2020 by taking a daily yoga or Pilates class. Take a class and then have your instructor initial and date your card AFTER class. Cards will be placed in a binder located in the storage cubbies between the yoga studios. There are no losers in this challenge! Everyone wins when we can remain in the present moment. At the end of the challenge, all cards will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win some awesome prizes. There will be two raffles: one for cards where every square signed and dated; and a second for participants who have two bingo lines completed! We will cover the basic principles of giving powerful, safe, and transformational yoga posture assists. Instead of directing our focus on learning the so-called “correct assist” for each pose, we will focus on understanding the principles

that empower you to create, improvise, and customize assists safely and effectively. Yoga asana adjustments are a profound way to deepen your understanding of the nonverbal language of yoga. DOBBINS LOOKOUT HIKE Saturday, January 25 | 8 am Holbert Trail to Dobbins Lookout is a 3.8mile heavily trafficked out-and-back trail in South Mountain Park that is rated moderate with a 1000-foot elevation gain. The spectacular valley views at Dobbins Lookout make the uphill climb worth the effort. Meet at Camelback Village at 7:30 am to carpool or 8 am at the trailhead. CDGO HIKE TO MT. KILIMANJARO

July 13–25, 2020 2 Days Community Service, 7 Days Hiking, 1 Day Safari Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain in the world, at 19,340 ft. and it is considered one of the prestigious Seven Summits. This private climb will be 6 nights and 7 days on the Machame Route and will cover a total distance of 38 miles of moderate to strenuous hiking. Kristen Sandquist and Kevin Cherilla, co-owners of K2 Adventures, are international mountain guides with over 50 summits on Mt. Kilimanjaro. Some of your community service opportunities will include working in the garden, painting buildings, teaching English, working in the classroom, arts and crafts, and other activities with the students. For the past nine years, K2 Adventures Foundation has created a self-sustainable environment for this orphanage which works with children with disabilities such as albinism, blindness, and Xeroderma Pigmentosum. Their foundation provides meals and dental services for the kids.
