CDGO SUMMER GOLF LEAGUE

AT THE PHOENICIAN GOLF CLUB Tuesdays, July 2 thru September 3 | 4:30 pm shotgun start (no play on August 6) This is a fun, recreational league where you will play your own ball. You need to know how to play “ready golf” so that you keep up the pace of play. We will pair you up each week unless you have friends you want to play with. Make sure you arrive no later than 4:15 pm to check in. Pay in The Phoenician Pro Shop. We’ll meet at The Phoenician Tavern afterwards for drinks. MYZONE CHALLENGE Tuesday, July 2–Wednesday, July 31 Keep working on that summer body all July long. Join our Gainey Village club-wide MYZONE Challenge. We will be competing for MYZONE Effort Points (MEPS). You will be eligible for the raffle once you earn 1300 jul•aug•sept 2019 | 2

MEPS. For each additional 300 MEPS earned after that, you will receive another raffle ticket. The more MEPS earned the more raffle tickets given. Prizes will be drawn on August 1. Who: All members wanting to motivate themselves while in summer mode to keep working hard on their health and fitness journey. If you have summer vacation plans, this is a perfect challenge to keep you on track while you are away from the club. MYZONE belts work anywhere you work out, in and outside of the Village. SHOOT-OUT (juniors welcome) Saturday, July 6 | 11 am–3 pm Beginning–Intermediate Levels The objective is to get everyone playing, learning, and having fun! Games will be adjusted by the amount of people entered. Participants will receive a drink ticket at the end of the shoot-out. July 7–August 8 Group Fitness Bingo is a fun way to try other class formats. Bingo cards can be found in the group fitness studios. After each class, bring your bingo card to the instructor to initial and date. It is recommended that all members immediately return the card to the binder for safe storage. Binders will be located in a designated cubby between the Mind/Body and Hot Yoga studios.Those who complete their BINGO card will be entered into a drawing for a chance to WIN FUN PRIZES! C SWIM STROKE TUNE-UP

LEARN TO SWIM EFFICIENTLY Wednesdays, July 10–August 21 | 7–8 am (no class on July 31) A six-week coached swim program for beginner multisport athletes to the experienced triathletes. This program is designed to help athletes prepare for pool swim competitions and the open water swim legs of a triathlon.

July Events and Programs (continued) This swim program will focus on: Swim stroke and efficient body position Through the planned swim sessions, your stroke will be analyzed and refined with drills designed to develop easy breathing, and an efficient and powerful freestyle stroke. Overcoming any fear There is always some anxiety of jumping into unknown waters that will make even experienced multisport athletes uncomfortable. This program should help you build confidence to overcome anxiety. Open water swimming techniques Sighting can be a bit of a challenge in the open water. You will learn how to effectively sight in an open water swim course. Learn to swim in a large group and utilize drafting and pacing. You will also learn what aspects (to work on in the pool) are most important when swimming in open water. AND DEVELOPMENT SQUAD ages 14+ Mondays + Wednesdays (some Saturdays) through July | 3:45–5 pm This small group training squad is designed for those who are looking for more individualized training in a group environment during the swim off-season. The program involves disciplined performance training with extra focus on technique and opportunity to maintain and build fitness in the water. The squad is a noncompetitive group, but the daily training will give them a competitive advantage when they return to their high school and club swim teams. The coach will award incentives for those athletes who perform well. To get the most out of the program, athletes should try to attend all weekly practices. Athletes must be competing on, or preparing to try out for, a high school or club swim team. If 13 yrs old, acceptance into the program is at the coach’s discretion. ages 9 months+ Survival-Based Lessons Parent/Tot For children ages 6–23 months. Children will learn breath control, buoyancy, in addition to getting comfortable on their back. Parents will learn how to position and hold their swimmer to ensure safety in the water. Beginner I ages 2+ Children will learn to swim unassisted from 5 feet out to the side of the pool and will climb out independently. Skills taught will be kicking, reaching, holding their breath, and basic pool/ water safety. Active parent involvement in the water. Beginner II ages 2+ who have graduated from the Beginner I class at LFS. Children will continue to develop Beginner I class skills, rolling onto their back, swim 5–10 feet unassisted, and basic pool/water safety. Refresher I ages 3+ (or those who have graduated from the Beginner II class LFS) Course objectives include review of Beginner II class skills and increasing stamina for longer distance swimming (10–15 feet) while gaining confidence in the water. Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain in the world, at 19,340 ft. and it is considered one of the prestigious Seven Summits. This private climb will be 6 nights and 7 days on the Machame Route and will cover a total distance of 38 miles of moderate to strenuous hiking. Kristen Sandquist and Kevin Cherilla, co-owners of K2 Adventures, are international mountain guides with over 50 summits on Mt. Kilimanjaro. You will acclimatize for your hike by working in this orphanage which serves over 640 children. Some of your community service opportunities will include working in the garden, painting buildings, teaching English, ★ working in the classroom, arts and crafts, and other activities with the students. For the past nine years, K2 Adventures Foundation has created a self-sustainable environment for this orphanage which works with children with disabilities such as albinism, blindness, and Xeroderma Pigmentosum.
