History

‘Charity begins at Home’ Potton Consolidated Charity Potton has been lucky with its charitable individuals such as William Potter who in 1558 gave his house in Horslow Street to be let for the benefit of the poor of Potton. Today four cottages on the same site still discharge this function. He and others are commemorated in the parish church with boards such as the one below:-

The photograph of the presentation of Rocket play equipment (cost £721.35) to the town to celebrate the 1981 Royal Wedding is part of its archive collection. It also shows the old lawn tennis courts on the site of present skateboard park at Brook End. Potton Consolidated Charity’s work continues today with grants for students and on-going support for a wide range of local groups and individuals. Its web site gives more details.
