Temecula is mourning the loss of one of its founding city council members this week. Peg Moore, who was elected to the first Temecula City Council, served as a council member from incorporation in 1989 until 1992, died Tuesday, Jan. 18. “We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Peg’s passing. She was a friend, a mentor and a leader that exemplified the heart of Temecula,” Temecula Mayor Matt Rahn said. Moore’s involvement in Temecula began in the 1980s when she and her late husband, Jimmy Moore, fell in love with the Temecula Valley and served on the Incorporation Committee for cityhood. Jimmy Moore was the president and Peg Moore served as the secretary. Moore served on the city council until 1992, alongside Ron Parks, Karel Lindemans, Pat Birdsall and Sal Munoz. “Without the actions and commitment to cityhood in the early

days by Peg and her husband Jimmy, Temecula would not have incorporated and developed into the city we enjoy today,” Rahn said. “Residents and businesses are still benefiting from Peg’s vision as part of Temecula’s original city council, and decades of continued service on the Old Town Local Review Board.” Moore was known for being supportive of any enterprise that would benefit the city, Temecula Valley Historical Society member Rebecca Farnbach told Valley News. “Peg was an amazing woman; she loved Temecula,” Farnbach said. “She encouraged my husband Darell and I with our efforts on behalf of historic restoration of the Vail HQ and in every endeavor to preserve history.” According to a news release issued by the city, Moore served on the Old Town Local Review Board from May 2002 through July 2021, including as its chairwoman.
