Playoffs set to return to CIF Southern Section
TEMECULA – Temecula unveiled a brand-new aerial ladder truck that is 57 feet in length, with a 101-foot ladder, to be housed at Station 73 in the business/ industrial area of Temecula. The custom-built new truck replaced a 2003 ladder truck, which will be used on reserve and parked at Fire Station 95, the city’s newest fire station off Butterfield Stage Road. see page A-2

In an ironic twist, Temecula living trust attorney Paul Hanks survived a harrowing near-death hiking accident and four days in the desert. He said, “I felt death!” He told his story with conviction, fear, pain, excitement and the will to live. He survived five days in Joshua Tree National Park with no water, a prickly pear cactus and a serious head injury. see page A-4

When Erika Heranic found out she needed a new heart, the mother of two was focused on survival. Following her transplant in April 2017, she said she wanted to know all she could about the person who saved her life through organ donation. “And I wanted to give back to those who made life possible,” Heranic of Lake Elsinore said. She became an ambassador for OneLegacy when she could participate but she had already been contacted by the parents of Dylan Stump, whose heart she had received. Dana Stump of Long Beach was an ambassador and said she was grateful that her son’s donations improved the lives of five people, including Heranic. “Being a OneLegacy ambassador allows me to share Dylan’s legacy and give thanks as I have

When Menifee’s Olivia Ximines competed on last season’s “American Idol” television show, she made the top 20 but was not able to advance into the top 10. For Season 19, the producers are giving some of the contestants a second chance by having a firstever comeback show. Airing Monday, April 19, Ximines, now 17, vied to be the singer that rounds out the Top 10 when the winner is revealed Sunday, May 2.
