“Honk!” the musical opens at Blackhawk

Old furniture and equipment will also be available for sale, cash and carry only. The second addition to the new Tioga School will be ready for students and staff next school year. The original school will be closed at the end of the school year and prepared for demolition. The space where the school now stands will be converted to a playground and ball field.

Blackhawk Entrance, Gym Set for renovation Improvements to Blackhawk Middle School entrance, gymnasium and washrooms this summer will kick off a two-year renovation project at the 52-year-old school. The plan calls for creating a secure reception space by enclosing the walk-up area already under a roof at the main entrance. This will improve safety by creating a space where visitors can be screened by office staff before they are given access to the building. The student locker rooms adjacent to the gymnasium will be remodeled to make better use of the space. In the gymnasium, air conditioning will be installed, and the old wooden bleachers will be replaced to improve safety, expand seating capacity and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The gym floor will also be refinished.

New signs for concealed carry law All schools (and many public buildings) are required to post signs at entrances to designate the area where carrying a concealed firearm is prohibited. Those with a license to carry a concealed weapon are prohibited from carrying a firearm in a school building, property or parking area. Applications for a license to carry a concealed weapon became available Jan. 1.

The renovations, estimated to cost $1.6 million, will be paid for out of district reserves. Plans are being drafted for a second phase of construction that may include renovations of the auditorium, media center and main office, depending on funds available. B e n s e n v i l l e
