Minor Hawks Introductory Hockey League Players born from 1/1/2005 to 12/31/2007 are invited to join the best developmental hockey league in the country. We will be following the USA Hockey Athletic Development Model to provide the best possible experience for your up and coming hockey player. At ages 6-9 years old, our objective for physical development is to refine fundamental movement skills and begin to acquire basic sports skills. This is the time when a foundation is laid for future acquisition of more advanced skills. As far as psychological development goes, we will be focusing on providing FUN, motivating practices and games, developing reasoning skills through unstructured competition, building confidence by creating competitive groups which will allow for a high rate of success and promoting individual and group participation, maintaining a “no excuses” atmosphere, and introducing the participants to simple rules and sports ethics (fair play).
Registration Information Fall Season: September 7 - December 22 Registration is on a first come, first serve basis, as space is limited. All participants must register at least one week prior to the start of the session. Once registered, you will receive an email with instructions for the evaluation skate. Please check out the Blues website at www.chicagoblueshockey.org or contact Todd Finner at (630) 670—3395 for more information.
Format Practices will be split into 4 groups based on ability. We recognize that each player is unique and develops at a different rate. By creating parity within each group we feel that we can better serve the needs of each player on a more individualized basis. Players will have more fun by practicing at their own level and coaches will be able to create a more competitive atmosphere with the games and competitions in practice. Games will consist of half ice games with the new hard board system splitting the ice in two. Competitive matching will be the rule to create parity amongst teams. By splitting the ice into two we will be creating more opportunity for each young player to get involved in the game and thus use their skating, puck-handling, agility, and shooting on a more frequent basis.
Fees The cost to join the league is $260.00. Please register for this program on the Chicago Blues website at www.chicagoblueshockey.org. No walk-in registration will be permitted. The Chicago Blues is a non profit youth hockey organization.

Minor Hawks Pre-Hockey Program One Goal…One Kid at a Time Fun And Skills… … the right place to start… About the Program Pre-Hockey/Learn to Skate classes are structured so your child will have the opportunity to learn the basics of hockey from experienced professional instructors in an atmosphere that is relaxed, non-competitive and fun to learn. No skating or hockey experience is needed. Classes with PreHockey/Learn to Skate programs concentrate on skating basics and confidence building. Our hockey program prides itself on the quality of our coaching staff. Our program makes it a priority to train our coaches to ensure your child receives the best coaching instruction available. Upon completion of our Pre-Hockey program, it is our goal to have prepared your child to be ready to join a team. Your child may then enjoy the excitement of playing on a hockey team with children of his or her own age. Evaluation will take place on final class to determine if your child should return to another Pre-hockey class or move up to a house league team. Equipment Because our classes are instructional in nature, we do not require complete hockey equipment. We do require your child wear a HECC approved hockey helmet with face-mask, hockey elbow pads, shin pads, hockey gloves, jersey and has a hockey stick. Rental skates are available to rent for one dollar but purchasing a correctly sized quality skate is of great benefit to the skater. Equipment can be purchased at the Edge Pro Shop or at Total Hockey which is located at the corner or Route 83 and St. Charles Road in Elmhurst. We have a limited number of starter packages available for $85 which include everything except skates and a hockey stick. Please let me know if you are interested in purchasing a starter pack. Volunteers Wanted Dad’s and Mom’s – We want you! Do you enjoy working with children? If so, don’t be afraid to come and help out. You don’t need to be a great skater. Enthusiasm and support are all that is required. We will provide
you with the rest. If you are interested in assisting our regular staff of instructors please fill out the “Coaches” section of the registration form. Coaching credits are available. Thank you for your help and support of our program.
