What’s Happening at Recreation? The first Mayor’s Costume Ball was held this past November and promises to be an annual success. The purpose of this event was to raise funds for the Youth Outreach Commission (YOC) Scholarships. There were over 100 in attendance, which generated $1,500 for the Scholarship Program. Our sincere gratitude and appreciation goes to the many volunteers and Commission members who made this fundraiser such a success! The Annual Daddy and Daughter Ball rolled right into February without a hitch. We were bursting at the seams with over 200 dads and daughters dancing the night away! Our Annual Open House was moved to a Friday evening, and proved to be a great decision based on the number of attendees! In addition, we had another successful year at Breakfast with the Bunny and the highly anticipated Annual Egg Hunt. Candy-filled eggs and lots of great prizes shed big smiles on the little ones who participated. Most recently was the Annual Spring Tide Craft Show that provided over 100 crafters on a bright April Saturday. Everything from unique craft items, artisan pieces, jewelry, food, toys, clothing and so much more were to be found – it was impossible to walk away without a personal treasure. Mark your calendars, as this summer will kick off many special events and programs for you and your family. Come enjoy the parties in the park, Rockin’ the Ville Summer Concert Series, Independence Day Celebration, and Movie Under the Stars to name a few. Don’t forget the incredible RomeoFest (August 2-5), which will hold TWO fireworks displays this year. A fireworks show will be held on the traditional closing night of the festival, but this year a fireworks show will also be provided on Friday night. Many thanks go to the volunteers in the community and the staff at the Parks and Recreation Department who work countless hours that weekend to make RomeoFest a huge success for our community. We will be opening the Nancy Aldridge Memorial Pavilion in early summer. This pavilion was dedicated to Nancy Aldridge, Office Manager for the Romeoville Parks and Recreation Department, who lost her battle to lung cancer last December. Included is a new pavilion with six picnic tables, two concrete bean-bag game sets, and shuffle boards – all ADA accessible. This year marks the first full year for Boucher Prairie Park. If you haven’t been out to see it, you don’t know what you’re missing! Come check out the new splash station, basketball area, walking trails, fitness stations, in-line hockey rink, lighted shelter near the existing playground, a boardwalk and a wetland overlook with interpretative signage and native plantings throughout the park site. There is parking for 22 vehicles. This project was made possible in part by the $393,000 OSLAD Grant from the State of Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The Village of Romeoville will be working in tandem with the American Cancer Society by hosting a Relay for Life event on Saturday, June 30th. Come out and show your support by participating in the event or to cheer others on! Opening ceremony begins at 2:00 pm at the Village Hall Grounds, 1050 W. Romeo Road, Romeoville. For more information, please check out the website at www.relayforlife.rog/romeovilleil. As you page through the Summer 2012 brochure, make sure to mark your calendars for another busy and exciting summer with the Village of Romeoville Parks and Recreation Department! In the event that I or anyone else nonetheless makes a claim or files suit against Releasees arising out of any of the above-described matters, I will indemnify and hold Releasees harmless of and from any and all damages or judgments and costs of litigation, including attorney fees. The provisions hereof are to be construed as broadly as possible in favor of Releasees, and this Agreement as a whole shall be governed by the laws of the State of Illinois (without reference to the conflicts of laws rules thereof ). If any part of this Agreement shall be ruled invalid by a court having jurisdiction, the balance shall be enforced to the maximum possible extent. In essence, the ultimate island party. But much more than the standard Steel Drum band, they play an amazing variety of music as well – not only your tropical favorites, but many reggae classics and pop/rock party songs re-arranged to feel like the islands. New hits, classic rockers, and many other surprises, all performed with an exotic twist!
Spoken Four Thursday, August 16th Spoken Four delivers astounding performances that’ll make your jaw drop. All concerts will be held from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Deer Crossing Park, 1050 W. Romeo Rd. The Neverly Brothers Thursday, July 19th
The Neverly Brothers: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Evolution – From Elvis to the Beatles! Fasten your seatbelts for a guided musical tour through rock ‘n’ roll history! The Neverly Brothers play all your favorite hits from 1950s American Rockabilly, Rock n’ Roll and Rhythm & Blues pioneers up through the 1964 British Invasion groups in an awe inspiring concert that will have you singing, dancing and thoroughly entertained. Dressed in period-perfect matching suits from each era, and playing show-stopping renditions of all the classics, these rockers have a look and a sound that will make you feel like you are witnessing rock history unfold before your very eyes and ears. And with rock ‘n’ roll history and trivia between songs, this is truly a one-of-a kind retro rock n’ roll MAGICAL HISTORY TOUR!
Mike and Joe Thursday, September 20th
Mike and Joe a is high energy modern rock cover band, and is one of most successful bands of its type in the country. The band plays music primarily from the ‘90s and 2000’s, with an emphasis on current modern rock radio hits. The band distinguishes itself in three ways; with excellent players, through deliberate song selection, and with spot on vocals. There is an element of musical integrity to this band that brings a concert like feel to the performance, as opposed to the usual gimmick driven party band. The set list includes high-energy rock for the dance set, as well as performance driven selections that capture the imagination in a way that the typical ‘party band’ does not. The band does add a handful of 70s and 80s songs if the occasion calls for it, and is always mindful to create a unique set list that is appropriate for each event. For those looking for a very fun, mainstream, and uniquely talented band to entertain, Mike and Joe is a truly great find.

Components of Fitness To improve your overall fitness, it is important to have a balance of the five components of fitness. These components are:
1. 1 Cardio-Respiratory Endurance: The ability to do moderately strenuous activity over a period of time. It reflects how well your heart and lungs work together to supply oxygen to your body during exertion and exercise.
2 Muscular Strength: The ability to exert maximum force, one time. An example would be a one time lift of the 2. heaviest weight you can manage.
3 Muscular Endurance: The ability of a muscle or muscle group to repeat a movement many times or to hold a 3. particular position for an extended period of time.
4. 4 Flexibility: The degree to which individual muscles will lengthen and the ability to move a joint through its full range of motion.
5. 5 Body Composition: The proportion of fat in the body compared to the amount of lean mass. Each group fitness program is labeled with the components it strengthens. Multiple components may apply to individual classes, or they may only have one. Sign up for all the different components to get a complete workout!
