In the past century, Dunwoody has transformed from a small-town farming community, to a leader in commercial development – we pride ourselves on progress yet still adhere to our core values and roots. From 1881 until 1921, the Roswell Railroad ran through town between Roswell and Chamblee twice a day. Dunwoody Depot was in the heart of Dunwoody and with the railroad came commerce, including general stores, a livery stable, feed and fertilizer store, and a pharmacy. With the creation of new subdivisions in the 1950s and 60s, and the completion of I-285 in 1970, Dunwoody became a very accessible area. These new additions soon led to further commercial developments, like Perimeter Mall in1971. Home to over 46,267 residents, we have long been considered a city, but actually incorporated in 2009. Dunwoody is fortunate to enjoy a location and economy that is an attractive destination for businesses and families. Donaldson-Bannister Farm.We have many historic homes including, Swancy Farmhouse, Dunwoody works hard to W.N.Ware House, Railroad Section Gang House preserve its history and is and Cassidy House. Check out the Dunwoody well-known for its Cheek- Chamber of Commerce’s website for more Spruill Farmhouse and information about our historic locations!

The city of Dunwoody manages six uniquely beautiful parks within our city boundaries. We strive to provide residents and visitors with the highest quality parks, recreational services and green space to enhance the quality of life of our community. City parks contain a combined 160 acres filled with fields, open spaces, wooded trails and playground amenities. Our parks are home to several major events each year and offer a variety of activities including skating, tennis and more. The city also is in the early stages of constructing a multi-use trailway network which will link neighborhoods, office buildings, businesses, restaurants, stores and public spaces. The Dunwoody Nature Center features green space and walking trails in a suburban setting and includes four distinct habitats

(forest, creek, wetlands, and meadow). The center offers a variety of gardens featuring native plants, outdoor play and learning spaces such as our tree house pavilion and vegetable garden. We offer camp, field trips, and special events - the annual Butterfly Festival and Summer Concerts Series. Brook Run is one of Dunwoody’s premier parks comprised of playgrounds, skate park, dog park, community garden, trails and multi-use fields. Brook Run also offers the pavilion for rent for any occasion to members of the community. Our parks represent our commitment to the positive development and well-being of the community. The city works in cooperation with organizations and volunteer community groups to help maintain parks, greenways,

trails and recreational facilities in order to maximize all of our available resources. Thanks in part to our Parks and Open Space master planning process each of the city’s six park properties provide citizen-focused facilities and services. Together, we have created a vision and guiding plan for the city’s future investment in its current parks and potential acquisition of additional parkland and open space. Explore our parks. We’re confident you’ll want to return again and again.
