s part of the greater Philadelphia area, Eastern Montgomery County embraces its truly envious location. The county sits just a few miles north of City Center Philadelphia. This strategic position provides both individuals and businesses various outlets for efficient transportation, including well-maintained highway systems, railways, airports and waterways.

Vital roadways, such as the Schuylkill Expressway (Interstate 76), Pennsylvania Routes 309 and 611, U.S. Route 202 and Interstate 95, weave in, out and around the communities of Eastern Montgomery County. Access to the busy Pennsylvania Turnpike is available via the Willow Grove interchange as well as in Plymouth Township where “The Blue Route” (Interstate 476) supplies a link with the toll road’s Northeastern Extension. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is a great resource when it comes to affordable public transit services. Noted as the nation’s sixth-largest public transit system, this multimodal transportation amenity offers service by bus, trolley (light rail and trackless), subway and regional rail. SEPTA also provides convenient paratransit services, such as Customer Community Transportation (CCT Connect) and the door-to-door shared-ride program Eastern Montgomery County is well-served by SEPTA. Its JenkintownWyncote Train Station is identified as the area’s center of transportation into the Philadelphia metropolitan area. With more train lines and services than any other suburban station, the Jenkintown-Wyncote station connects riders with Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station. For further access to the Philadelphia area, commuters take advantage of SEPTA’s Route 55 bus line, which covers the 611 corridor from Doylestown and Willow Grove, linking the area to the Olney Transportation Center in downtown Philadelphia.

One can feel the originality of this community within its walkable downtown district, which is lined with locally owned retailers and restaurants. This friendly center of the city serves as the gathering place for many popular occasions as well, including the widely popular Color Day, the Farmers’ Market and the exciting Arts & Jazz Festival each fall. While the Borough of Bryn Athyn spans just over two square miles (pop. 1,375), it is the proud base of a number of prominent landmarks in the greater Philadelphia area. Merging faith with education, Bryn Athyn hosts the Academy of the New Church, the Bryn Athyn Church School and the New Church College. astern Montgomery County features a vibrant cultural landscape that includes outstanding musical and theatrical productions, unique art galleries, museums and resources that offer a long list of programming that runs the gamut of artistic media.

artists at the center, and the popular summer concert series. Surrounding the art center is a fascinating sculpture park, providing visitors a chance to experience the fusion of nature and art. This continually rotating outdoor museum displays a collection of semi-permanent, temporary and ephemeral sculptures. More than 20 different artists are currently featured in the sculpture park, which is sure to interest visitors of all ages and tastes. Nestled in the heart of Glenside’s Keswick Village, the historic Keswick Theatre is noted as one of the most active and diversified venues in the region, presenting a calendar year full of nationally and internationally known performers. In addition, the theatre is nationally recognized as the most acoustically perfect listening room in the greater Philadelphia area. Also be sure to visit the Mitchell Performing Arts Center (MPAC), located on the campus of the Academy of the New Church in Bryn Athyn. MPAC is a prime place to view performances from such groups as the Bryn Athyn Orchestra and local theatre clubs.

The Abington Art Center (AAC) is an essential part of the local culture scene. Housed within the historic Alverthorpe Manor, the AAC sits on an expansive 27-acre campus in Jenkintown. Within the art center, visitors enjoy a variety of rotating exhibits, workshops, classes and events. Popular events include the Saturday morning Coffee Break, where guests can meet with the exhibiting

The Glencairn Museum, also in Bryn Athyn, is a unique facility housing approximately 8,000 objects related to the history of religion. Highlights of the museum include 11th century stained glass from the Abbey of St. Denis, the ornate fifth-floor chapel, a lifesize statue of the goddess Minerva and the awe-inspiring, five-story-high Great Hall.

Cheltenham High School was named One of America’s Best High Schools by Newsweek magazine in 2010.
