PARKS
AND RECREATION Local municipalities maintain numerous municipal parks, as does Homer Township, which oversees seven sites throughout the area. Township residents utilize athletic fields, picnic areas, playground equipment, ball fields, walking paths, fishing holes and plenty of open space at area parks. In addition, the Forest Preserve of Will County offers sites in the Township. Homer Glen plays host to the 441-acre Messenger Woods Nature Preserve, a beautiful, forested area that draws nature enthusiasts, hikers, cross-country skiers, picnickers and campers. It is the first property purchased by the Will County Forest Preserve in 1931 chosen for its pristine beauty. The Township is also home to the expansive Messenger Marsh Preserve, which features a multi-use trail, a dog park and a picnic shelter. The Spring Creek Greenway runs

EDUCATION Homer Township is dedicated to ensuring that community members have ready access to exceptional education at all levels. Students of all abilities, from traditional, special needs and gifted students, are well-served through two outstanding elementary school districts— Homer Community Consolidated School District 33-C and Will County School District 92—and the Lockport Township High School District 205. HOMER TOWNSHIP PUBLIC LIBRARY Open seven days a week, the Homer Township Public Library has 30 computers, both conventional and WiFi Internet access, more than 225 periodicals, a collection of 130,000 books and materials and offers ‘round the clock online access from home. With a core collection of 5,000 items and a program featuring contests, special weekly themes, reading clubs and more, the library’s grant-funded bookmobile service brings library programs and materials directly into the community.
With a staff of 30 employees, the library prides itself on personalized customer service and offers a wide variety of programs. HEALTHCARE Physicians and specialists of all kinds have established offices and clinics in Homer Township. The area also has easy access to several hospitals and off-campus medical facilities, which provide worldclass healthcare services and programs right at home.
The expanding Palos Community Hospital is located just northeast of the Township. The system offers the Palos Community Hospital Family Health Center in Homer Glen, which supplies outpatient lab and radiology services as well as walk-in physician care.
Silver Cross Hospital, currently located in Joliet, is in the midst of constructing its new, $400 million replacement hospital in New Lenox (scheduled to open in 2012). Outside of the main campus, Silver Cross operates the Silver Cross Health Center & Professional Building in Homer Glen. This modern facility is one of the newest additions to the local healthcare community, housing diagnostic imaging services, several physician offices and a freestanding, 24-hour Emergency Care Center.
On top of these resources is the 695-bed Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, positioned within a half hour of the Township. The hospital features a Level I Trauma Center, a Level IIIc perinatal center and Neonatal ICU as well as centers of excellence at the Cancer Institute, Heart and Vascular Institute, Neurosciences Institutes and pediatrics at the Hope Children’s Hospital.
Another newer addition is the Loyola Center for Health in Homer Glen. The center offers an assortment of specialists and subspecialists, along with a convenient immediate care center. The presence of the Loyola University Health System, a well-known teaching facility, brings the latest medical technology and techniques to Homer Township.
