History very story has a beginning, middle and end. The Ute and Arapahoe Indian tribes originally inhabited Kremmling, until the early 1860s when the rush to mine gold, silver and lead brought pioneers out West. Jimmy Crawford established the first business in a cave on the banks of the Muddy River in 1873-74. Crawford eventually moved on to the Steamboat Springs area allowing Rudolph Kremmling, a Dillon native to set up shop in the cave in 1884 where he served settlers headed West.
October of 1912 local ranchers established the Grand County Fair, a tradition that still continues today as the Middle Park Fair & Rodeo.
E
Kremmling later moved his business to its present location (now the Dan
Hoare Village Smithy building north of the Town Square), and established the first post office in 1885. Land plats began to spring up in September of 1891, with the town name chosen as Kinsey, after John and Aaron Kinsey and soon after in 1895 the adoption of the moniker Kremmling. By 1900 Kremmling had increased its population to 270 and eventually became incorporated in 1904. The prospects of good ranch land and the Denver, Northwestern & Pacific railway that would make its way through Kremmling in 1906 made it an ideal location to settle down. By that time eight to nine saloons served as “necessary” additions for the town. In
Now that we have the beginning of our story it’s difficult to determine what’s the middle because the end has yet to be written—we can only live in the present. Visitors have the opportunity to step back in time and take a walk through Historic Kremmling, where patrons can view 65 rustic buildings constructed between 1885 and 1913. A “must see” for the historically inclined.

Friends winding through pine forests, the sparkling white of fresh powder, and a baby blue sky. How ‘bout a mug of cocoa? Skiing, water-skiing, hunting, fishing, ice fishing, hiking, mountain biking, ATV trails, backpacking, singing around the fire at camp… it’s all right here. Thousands of acres of public lands are administered by Routt, Arapaho/Roosevelt and White River National Forests, Bureau of Land Management and the state of Colorado.

Education est Grand School District is a small, rural school system of 434 students in grades kindergarten through 12. We are located approximately 100 miles northwest of Denver, nestled in a quiet valley of the Rocky Mountains between Steamboat Springs and Silverthorne. Historically, our economy was based on ranching, logging and mining. More recently, our economy has diversified and has been strengthened by the creation of governmental agencies, tourism and service providers who have chosen Kremmling as their home. The schools are the heart of the community and the district is constantly searching for ways to better serve the needs of the parents, children and community. Kremmling is home to nearly 1,500 citizens who live in a close-knit and caring community. Residents enjoy a low crime rate, a full range of medical and social services, and look to the schools as their community center.

Our school district hosts a K-8 building built in 2008 and high school housing grades 9-12. The Kremmling Preschool is also located within the K-8 building, making a smooth transition for children to kindergarten. The West Grand High School recently received the John Irvin Award for Academic Achievement and the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award. The Board of Education strives to keep a 14:1 class size. Our school

Library Originally established by Vi Johnson and Virginia Taussig in 1967 in the basement of the old elementary school, the Kremmling Library has since grown immensely. The library moved to its current building in 1977, was remodeled in October of 2009, and has its place in the Kremmling community as a comfortable space to read, relax, dream, discover and connect. The library is part of the Grand County Library District, which also includes the Granby Library, the Fraser Valley Library, the Hot Sulphur Springs Library and the Juniper Library in Grand Lake. Children’s programs are extremely popular at the Kremmling Library. These programs include Moms and Tots Story Time (for children from birth through age five), Free Family Movie Night, Wii Game Day, After School Club (for 1st and 2nd graders), and the Summer Reading Program. The library also hosts an annual Scary Story Contest and Shoe
Box Book Float Contest. The Friends of the Grand County Library District run a continuous book sale in the library as well as a large sale during Kremmling Days to help support these programs. The Kremmling Library offers many services to the public including free Wi-Fi, seven public computers for adults and children, printing, scanning, copying and faxing capabilities, community room and study room availabilities, and a comfortable sitting area with a fireplace. Grand County residents or Colorado Library Card holders are able to obtain a free Grand County library card, which entitles the cardholder to check out books, DVDs, audiobooks, music, magazines, e-books, e-audiobooks, MP3 players, and portable DVD players. Cardholders may also place holds on material located in libraries all across Colorado and this material will be sent directly to the Kremmling Library!
