he population of 19,709 residents appreciates a unique lifestyle within a beautiful village that makes this community unlike any other in the area. The village remains progressive in order to ensure it’s meeting the needs of the evolving population, implementing a range of measures over the past few years in the downtown area. The Lake Zurich area offers small-town charm with surrounding lakes, forest preserves and parks, as well as a close proximity to Chicago.

The village is home to award-winning schools and stretching acres of preserved land, even high-quality shopping and a diversified real estate market. Lake Zurich has become a real gem of northwest Illinois with its overall livability, family oriented entertainment and reasonable cost of living. The area was a contender for Money magazine’s “Best Places to Live” in 2011 and in 2006 Frommer’s, a publisher of travel books and magazines, named Lake Zurich among the top 100 best places to raise a family in the U.S. In the same year U.S. News & World Report ranked it as one
of the “Top 25 Affordable Places to Live in the Country.” Growing families, young entrepreneurs, business executives, retirees and everything in between can all find the right home, right here in Lake Zurich. Virtually every size home, style and price range can be found here. Old and new homes blend seamlessly together as they are located in well-established neighborhoods, each of them having their own characteristic and charm that is as unique as the people that live in them.
There are many draws to life in Lake Zurich. One of the main attractions is the area itself, which spans over 250 beautiful acres. Some subdivisions have lake rights complete with piers, provided by the associations, for residents’ boats. Pride in these communities can be seen yearlong as some maintain their own websites and even assemble a unit to march in the annual Alpine Fest Parade.
Neighborhoods here really fit the classic description: they provide a safe, homey place to reside, raise a family and even retire.
businesses. With great schools and a family friendly town it would be hard for anyone to leave. A strong school system, strong village governments and residents who care about the community prove there is no place like Lake Zurich. Now has never been a better time to discover the benefits of life in the Lake Zurich area!
Through past economic hardship the village has continued to prosper. With low retail vacancy rates the community has remained resourceful and creative at attracting new businesses to the area, as well as keeping an eclectic mix of current

here are an abundance of shopping opportunities in Lake Zurich and the surrounding areas. The highlight of the shopping center, though, is high-end fashion. Fashionistas will find all of their favorites here at Ann Taylor, Buckle, J.Crew, Vera Bradley, White House Black Market, Lucky Brand Jeans, Banana Republic, lululemon athletica, Brooks Brothers and more. All that shopping can certainly work up an appetite, but don't worry; Town Center has you covered. Grab a quick bite at favorites such as Noodles & Co., Panera Bread, Starbucks, Red Robin or Cold Stone Creamery to recharge before heading into the next store. Or, at the end of your shopping day, sit and relax at Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano, Tokio Sake, La Hacienda De Los Fernandez or California Pizza Kitchen.
The same corridor is home to the Village Square Shopping Center, which lies along the thirdbusiest intersection in Lake County, and hosts major tenants like Party City, Petco, TJ Maxx, Office Max, Trader Joe's and Tuesday Morning. The Village Square also boasts a Firestone Tires and Lube Right, and a Target at the end of the property rounds out this unique shopping center. At Village Square one can do some personal shopping, plan a party, grocery shop, decorate a home all while the car is being fixed. More shopping opportunities along the corridor include: Deerpath Commons, First Executive Retail Center, Lakeview Plaza, Pine Ridge Courte, Northlake Commons, the Lake Zurich Shopping Center and more. Nearby, Deer Park Town Center features over 70 of the most exclusive stores and restaurants in 24 | Lake Zurich Area Lifestyle Magazine™

After shopping, grab a quick bite at one of the many restaurants in Deer Park Town Center like Stoney River Legendary Steaks, Starbucks and more. Long Grove is another popular shopping location that allows for a distinctive getaway, combining the charm of yesteryear with today’s upscale tastes and styles. Shops here specialize in unique gifts, boutiques, exceptional art, home décor and distinctive menus. Shoppers here can stroll on cobblestone walks that wind through historic downtown, while enjoying seasonal lush gardens and scenic views. In Long
While shopping may be Deer Park Town Center's specialty, the shopping center has many other exciting things to offer as well. Annual events such as the Fall Festival and visits from Santa Claus in the winter are great family favorites. But the fun doesn't stop there. Year round, check out the latest movies at The Century Theaters movie theater located right in the Town Center, or spend a day being pampered at Avalon Salon and Day Spa or Cozy Feet Spa. What makes Deer Park Town Center truly unique is its open-air layout, with more than ample parking. The fresh air and dog-friendly policy are excellent for those wishing to spend a whole day window-shopping, while the parking in front of each individual store is convenient for those making one quick stop. For a full listing of retailers and restaurants, along with event information and a great fashion spotlight blog, visit the Deer Park Town Center website at www.shopdeerparktowncenter.com.

York Furrier fashion forward FUR eight decades Purveyor of exceptional furs and fine outerwear since 1931, York Furrier is thrilled to present this season’s 82nd Anniversary Collection. The York Design Team has traveled the globe, scouted the runways and worked with the York Furrier craftsmen (and women!) to create an extensive selection of fashionable furs, shearlings, cashmeres, leathers and skiwear garments, along with an array of accessories – hats, gloves, scarves, handbags, belts and boots - for complete head to toe coverage. Serving clients from the Chicagoland area and throughout the Midwest, York Furrier is conveniently located in the Deer Park Town Center and the Elmhurst City Centre. Both stores showcase innovative designer creations by Michael Kors, Zandra Rhodes, Badgley Mischka, Zac Posen, Malan Breton, André and Lisa Bisang, Dominic Bellissimo and Zuki; as well as the classically inspired York Signature Styles. Or, for a client who prefers a one-of-a-kind garment, they may opt to work with York Furrier’s talented on-premise staff to create a custom-made York Exceptional Exclusive. In-store and on the runway, the York Collection features gorgeous colors, bold patterns and shapely silhouettes. For color, the must-have is the Bisang-designed velour sheared mink walking coat with matching chinchilla trim in a beautiful teal. Other rich colors include plum, merlot, tangerine, emerald, saffron and vivid red. For playful patterns, Michael Kors created his version of camouflage with a cobalt blue, white, black and slate “camo” mink wrap. Badgley Mischka utilized animal prints and herringbone patterns for their newest handbag collection, and Zuki created intarsia colorblock patterns in sheared beaver walking coats. Figure flattering styles range from adorable boleros to floor grazing evening coats with a myriad of in-between lengths. For a woman on the go, York Furrier recommends the knee length walking coat for versatile wear. With petite to full-figure sizes and a selection of extra-long lengths, the York Collection features garments that perfectly fit both lifestyle and budget. As a full-service furrier, York Furrier also provides clients with an array of professional, on-premise services to maintain the beauty and condition of fur and fine outerwear garments. Mainstreet Art Centre 20 E. Main St., Lake Zurich, IL 60047 847-550-0016 Frankie Johnson / Director They come from Rockford, Lake Geneva, Hoffman Estates, Buffalo Grove, Northbrook and Chicago. They are school teachers, housewives, lawyers and physicians, but all have at least one thing in common. They love art. Mainstreet Art Centre has recently moved into a larger location, just right next door. Not only is the new space larger, but there is also an added third classroom to accommodate the children on wait lists.
Another teacher has been hired and several teachers were happy to take on more classes. The office staff is extremely helpful and accommodating in every way. It’s a great team. Director Frankie Johnson began her career at a young age and continued to study at the Art Institute and the Palette & Chisel in Chicago and Harper College in Palatine. Her years of study with wellknown painters from around the world have been the best education of all. Johnson has won numerous national awards and her paintings hang throughout the country. She is represented by the Champeau Pioneer
Gallery and The Paint Box Gallery in Door County, Wisconsin. The Mainstreet Art Centre is one of only a handful of independent art schools in the area, and the Studio employs locally and nationally recognized teachers to instruct in an encouraging environment. Classes are available for adults and children, with limited class sizes, ensuring lots of personal attention from the instructor. Exemplifying the classical approach to the fine arts of drawing and painting, the fundamentals of design are strongly emphasized. Understanding values, color harmony and design are the stepping stones to becoming more creative in the

long run. The more of a foundation students have to work with, the more they are able to explore a variety of painting styles and techniques. Frankie has created a stimulating environment while focusing on creating fine art. The atmosphere is supportive, caring, professional and fun. The studio offers 35 classes weekly, including all levels of drawing, oil painting, watercolor and pastels for adults, teens and children, starting at age six. Art supplies and ready-made frames are available for sale at the studio. Eight other teachers round out the instruction team, Ardes MacFarlane, Karen Sako, Linda Lukachik, Ann Feldman, Susan Ploughe, Jan Oswald, Barb Benstein and Tracy Albert. All instructors are award-winning professionals and give the highest quality of art instruction in the area. We find learning so exciting, we love to share it. That is why we teach. Mainstreet offers several special workshops each year, with nationally prominent artists. They come to share their expertise and continue to inspire the students. Johnson carefully selects the visiting artists, ensuring there is
something for everyone. Experts in portrait painting, pastels, watercolors, plein air, still life, mixed media and figure painting are included. The opportunities are endless in which to develop as quickly as you desire with some of the best painters in the country. Mainstreet also has different outings and class projects to stimulate growth. In addition to always having available still life setups, twice a month the studio provides a live model and uninstructed studio time. There are also student/teacher art shows periodically to display what has been created. Adult classes are two and a half hours and run for eight week sessions at the cost of $165. Teens are $150 for two-hour sessions that run for eight weeks. Various times are offered for younger children. We continue to bring plenty of activity into the downtown of Lake Zurich where art is supported and continues to flourish. The Mainstreet Art Centre is at 20 E. Main St. in Lake Zurich. ith a prime location in Chicago’s northwest suburbs, access to main roads and a large, diverse community, businesses in the Lake Zurich area are booming. Like with every community there has been some downturn because of the economy, but over the past few years, things are moving back up! In March of 2002 the village of Lake Zurich created a Tax Increment
Financing, a financial tool that is used to assist a municipality in the redevelopment of a specific area in the village until December 2025. The village of Lake Zurich has created a 70-acre area in the middle of downtown is intended to facilitate the preparation of vacant and underutilized sites for new retail, commercial and residential development as well as off-street parking. The area is located within the downtown redevelopment area, and is also designed to re-establish
the downtown as a vibrant mixeduse area, and strengthen the economic well-being and quality of life in the downtown area as well as the entire village. All of these amenities will be helpful to draw new businesses to the Lake Zurich area as well as keep already established business strong. The Village of Lake Zurich Board of Trustees and staff continue to work with interested developers to finalize a detailed redevelopment plan.

MIDWEST MOTORS Ben Ripstein is a car enthusiast. His passion for luxury and exotic pre-driven vehicles – and the void he found in that segment of the auto market – is what prompted his decision to open Midwest Motors in 2009. This former computer executive’s business plan was in direct response to what he experienced as a consumer. He was extremely dissatisfied with luxury dealers noticing flaws in vehicles and saying, “Well, we can fix that.” Ripstein thought, “Why fix it after-the-fact, when you can do it prior to sale?” Prior to sale, Ripstein makes sure every car he sells has all the books, a key and
