he Village of Menomonee Falls is a growing and vibrant community. News that Kohl’s tapped Menomonee Falls for their new headquarters, the redevelopment of the Stolper Steel site and the construction on the Main Street corridor, just to mention a few, will have a positive impact on our business community.

T

The Menomonee Falls Chamber of Commerce’s mission is dedicated to providing the service and support to encourage the ongoing economic development in the area. One of our newest Chamber members, Michelle Zimmerman of Ally’s Bistro, as reported by the Menomonee Falls Patch, sums up the spirit of Menomonee Falls: “Owners Rodney and Michelle Zimmerman left their home in northern Wisconsin and moved their family to Menomonee Falls in the summer to start their newest business venture, which is named after their 15-year-old daughter. Coming to a new community can be tough at times, but they were given an open-arms welcome from residents in the state’s largest village. ‘The first time we went to the grocery store and the post office, there was such warmth from complete strangers. It has been an amazing experience.’ Michelle said.” What a wonderful testimony! Welcome to the Village. It’s a great place to live and do business!

Overview AND

HISTORY

he Village of Menomonee Falls is located northwest of downtown Milwaukee. “The Falls,” as residents refer to their Village, takes pride in not only its status as being the largest Village in Wisconsin, but in its independence and in its ability to successfully maintain a quiet character and high quality of life during a lengthy period of growth and development.

T

character and high quality of life. Its setting is enhanced by lush parks, wildlife areas, beautiful homes, excellent schools, fine churches, quality healthcare, superb recreational resources and prosperous industrial and business facilities. Schools and Village government have achieved a high degree of efficiency, effectiveness and excellence. The community is within close proximity to several quality technical colleges and many respected colleges and universities. Roadways linking The Falls with surrounding metropolitan, suburban and rural areas allow residents abundant choices of shopping, cultural, entertainment, recreational and professional sports activities. Menomonee Falls’ independent spirit prevails.

Menomonee Falls takes its name from the Menomonee River, which courses diagonally through the northeast corner of the Village. It was along the banks of the river that early settlement of the Village took place. Today, Menomonee Falls boasts open and natural preserves – the perfect setting for contemporary residential development. Easy access to expressways is drawing more and more families to The Falls. New homes in new subdivisions continue to spring up along the many roadways that criss-cross the Village.

With vision and skilled management, the Village continuously moves forward with confidence in its people and its ability to preserve an enviable way of life.

Menomonee Falls is a self-contained and self-sustained community. While proximity to Milwaukee is an advantage, The Falls has developed and retained its own unique

Situated in northeastern Waukesha County, Menomonee Falls straddles U.S. Highway 41-45 – six lanes of freeway that merge with I-894 south of the Village, then intersecting with I-94 and I-43, which extends between Green Bay to the north and Beloit to the south. Downtown Menomonee Falls (its historic Village Centre) and State Routes 74, 100 and 175 intersect, carrying traffic from the Village to neighboring communities. A complete range of transportation is available to area business and industry. More than 200 trucking and warehousing firms make Waukesha County their home. Capitol Airport is only a mile south of the Village and Waukesha County-Crites Field is located seven miles to the south. Commuter bus service from Milwaukee is provided by the Milwaukee County Transit System and supported by local employers. Limousine service to Mitchell International and other points in the Milwaukee metropolitan area is available. In addition, the Village and the County provide specialized public transportation for elderly and disabled residents.

Tourism AND

enomonee Falls has many unique features that make it an attractive spot for tourists. Beginning with the lovely waterfall that gives the Village its name, visitors can hike, bike or stroll the “Bug Line” Recreation Trail and the Riverfront Trail – 12 miles of winding, marked pathways.

M

The Falls is known for its beautiful parks. Sixteen developed Village parks encompass more than 250 acres and are equipped with play areas, walking paths and trails, baseball and softball diamonds, soccer and football fields, picnic areas, volleyball and tennis courts, horseshoe pits, a band shell and winter ice skating rinks. Located on the west side of the Village you will find Menomonee Park, a gem of the Waukesha County Park System. With more than 400 acres this park boasts campsites, nature trails and an archery range. It also offers fishing, sandy beaches and swimming in a quarry. In winter, it offers a sledding hill, ice-skating and trails for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Nearby Kettle Moraine State Forest contains some 17,000 acres carved into natural wonders by retreating glaciers. At Kettle Moraine, visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, camping, picnicking, swimming and hiking along marked nature trails. Lake Michigan, a 30-minute drive from Menomonee Falls, is also a source of pleasure for boating, sailing, swimming and fishing for large game fish. For those longing for the greens, Menomonee Falls has several excellent public golf courses sure to challenge the best golfers. The scenic Fox River meanders through Wanaki Golf Course in Menomonee Falls where it creates water hazards at seven of the 18 holes and adds beauty to the course. Other public courses are available at Silver Spring Golf & Banquet Center, Riversbend, Arrowhead Springs Golf Club, Kettle Hills, Dretzka Park and Blackstone Creek. North Hills Country Club, located at the east entrance of the Village, is regarded as one of the state’s finest courses. North Hills is an 18hole private club and host to the Lombardi Classic.

EVENTS

Also unique to The Falls is the Old Falls Village Historical Park and Museum, nestled on the grounds of a beautiful 17acre park. The museum invites visitors to step back in time and glimpse life as it was during the mid-1800s to the early 1900s. Featuring a variety of historic homes and buildings, this living history museum includes a log home, a schoolhouse, a barn, a railroad depot, a log cabin and a dairy. The centerpiece of Old Falls Village is the 1858 Miller-Davidson House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Each of the buildings also features antiques and artifacts from the settlement era. Open May through September; costumed guides make history come alive through special events including the popular Ice Cream Festival, Quilt Show, Civil War Encampment, the Old Haunted Village and Silver Tea.

Other community events include Falls Fest, A Community Affair, Cheery Cherry Fair, Falls Harvest Fair, Jingle Bells Craft Fair, Pet Fair and an Independence Day Celebration. These are just a few of the annual festivals enjoyed by tourists and locals alike.
