CHAMBER
WELCOME Greetings and Welcome, The North Fulton story is one of growth and opportunity, and I’m proud to say that the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce (GNFCC) has been part of the development of this community and a catalyst for its growth since 1973. This year we celebrate 40 years of dedication to promoting the interests of business, encouraging commerce, and creating opportunities within our six-city footprint. The Latin dictum, Mercatura Gubernatio Civitas, expresses, in a classical way, the GNFCC’s vital concerns: Business Government Community. Besides its role as a catalyst for economic development and business growth, the chamber has emerged as a respected voice in the community with ties to local and state politics that advocates for better schools, a high standard of living, and a top-notch business environment. From economic development to quality of life, the GNFCC actively promotes positive growth and a sense of community pride. Staying connected is all-important these days, and I am proud to present this year’s community guide, which we believe will provide an updated level of connectivity for area newcomers and our members. Although it is a departure from the more traditional directory, we hope this informational guide with its technological “bells and whistles” will transform our ability to promote local businesses and disseminate information utilizing the Internet and phone applications. This change reflects the chamber’s commitment to making relevant and meaningful contributions to the community. In the last decade, the chamber’s impact on the area has grown more than we ever imagined. We appreciate the trust our members have placed in us; and as a new member of the community, you will find this guide and the chamber staff valuable resources. Please feel free to call us to answer questions or direct you to one of our 1,900+member business who are ready to help make your transition a smooth one. The chamber and North Fulton are on the cusp of several years of amazing growth, and we are proud to lead the way. We are honored to help make North Fulton your new home. Sincerely,
Brandon L. Beach President & CEO 11605 Haynes Bridge Road, Suite 100 Alpharetta, Georgia 30009 Toll Free 866-840-5770 Phone 770-993-8806 Fax 770-594-1059 e-mail: info@gnfcc.com www.gnfcc.com

ncorporated in 2006, Johns Creek is a suburban community in a 32-square-mile area, just 30 miles northeast of Atlanta. Known for its vibrant neighborhoods, the 76,728 residents have seen the active development of their neighborhoods since the 1980s. For many years, Johns Creek was a rural farming community. Today, remnants of the original crossroads communities that dotted the landscape more than 100 years ago can still be seen. Historically the early crossroads served as centers of social and business activities, giving residents a sense of community that is still evident. The early communities built the foundation upon which the city’s nearly 300 subdivision neighborhoods stand. Today, 26,041 households are in Johns Creek, providing an inclusive approach to making the city a quality community of safe and healthy neighborhoods. Visit www.johnscreekga.gov for more information. NORTH FULTON
COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT
T
hroughout its nine-year life, the Community Improvement District(CID) has made numerous improvements along the Georgia 400 corridor and continues to locate and instigate projects in North Fulton County. The revenue generated from the CID is invested to leverage local, state, and federal funds. This allows the CID to advance infrastructure projects faster than traditional governmental bodies.
Kristin Rome-Project Assistant, Ann Hanlon-COO
28 | 2013- 2014 Co m m un i t y G u ide — gnfcc.com
The CID has approximately 300 commercial property owners who make up its total membership. These members voluntarily assess themselves an additional tax of 3 mills to fund the CID. The CID boundaries follow Georgia 400 from Mansell Road to McGinnis Ferry Road, and include three cities: Alpharetta, Milton, and Roswell. The CID’s decision-making body is its 10-member Board of Directors. Recently, the CID assisted with the completion of Westside Parkway, an alternate route from Georgia 400 for local travelers. The CID invested $789,000 in the completion of that northern stretch of roadway. The completed road opened in April 2012. The CID has also been the catalyst for an extension of Northwinds Parkway. In October 2012, the CID Board of Directors approved a $500,000 expenditure for the design and engineering of that project. The extended roadway is adjacent to the site of the new Gwinnett Tech campus in North Fulton and will open new land for future development. The North Fulton CID is also in the planning stages to re-build the Encore Parkway Bridge, a $10 million construction project, running over Georgia 400 from the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre to North Point Mall. The project is scheduled to begin construction in 2014.

onsumers hungry for the best goods know that North Fulton Atlanta’s extensive and thriving retail market will satisfy their need for high fashion, high tech, and other quality merchandise. The region’s population growth over the past two decades has made it a shopper’s paradise. Avalon, a $600 million resort-inspired, mixed-use development in Alpharetta is scheduled to open April 2014. “Avalon will deliver a purposefully designed experience in the art of living well,” said Mark Toro, managing partner for North American Properties. “Imagine stepping into a retail environment that feels and delivers like a five-star resort. Your every need is anticipated and every indulgence fulfilled.” In addition to a lineup of experiential retailers and restaurants, Avalon will feature a weekly, monthly and seasonal schedule of community events. Activities like outdoor concert series, yoga in the park, family camp-outs, and an outdoor holiday ice skating experience similar in scale to Rockefeller Center will take place at Avalon In addition to convenient shopping centers adjacent to most neighborhoods, North Point Mall in Alpharetta is one of the most successful in the Southeast, with a trade area that is growing at a rate of four times the national average. Anchored by such giants as Macy’s, Sears, JC Penney, and Dillard’s, North Point guarantees that North Fulton Atlanta residents enjoy easy access to designer clothing and accessories, fine furnishings, elegant home decor, the latest electronics and media, and the comfort of a recently renovated food court and a carousel for children. Additionally, Von Maur, an upscale department store offering top name brands for men, women, and children, opened its first store in the Southeast at North Point Mall Perimeter Mall in Sandy Springs, another North Fulton Atlanta jewel, features national retailers Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, and Macy’s, 200 specialty shops and delicious dining at six signature restaurants.
