he Romeoville Area Chamber of Commerce proudly presents the 2014 Community Map Wrap. I invite you to use this valuable resource to learn more about the many facets of our region, including local businesses, education, healthcare, government, religion and recreation. I also encourage you to keep this book handy to find Chamber member businesses and organizations who support our community and the Chamber of Commerce. Our Chamber takes seriously its mission “to create and foster a growing business community by promoting economic opportunities, advocating for interests of the members, providing educational resources and developing relationships between members.� If you are a Chamber member, you already know the benefit from the many programs and services offered to help businesses succeed. Introduction as a popular resort destination. Isle a la Cache and Romeo Beach attracted numerous affluent Chicago residents. Since being incorporated on January 21, 1895, Romeoville has experienced various periods of expansion and growth to become the largest community totally incorporated within Will County, Illinois.
R
omeoville began in the late 1800s as Romeo, the twin community to Juliet, now Joliet. Romeoville’s roots are embedded in the historic I&M Canal system. Primarily, the canal served to supply Chicago proper with produce in exchange for manufactured goods. During the early part of the 20th century, as frequent commercial traffic thrived on the canal, Romeoville thrived

omeoville’s location provides excellent accessibility to highway, rail, water shipping and air transportation. Romeoville is conveniently located along the Stevenson Expressway (I-55), with direct access at Weber Road and Joliet Road. Additional major thoroughfares include the North-South Tollway (I-355) and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294/I-80). O’Hare International Airport is just 30 miles away and Midway Airport is just 20 miles away. The Joliet Port District Airport, located in Romeoville, provides convenient air transportation for all businesses in the Chicago area. The airport functions as a
needs. Romeoville has always been known for its attractive location. What is even more attractive is Romeoville’s ongoing commitment to improve existing routes and secure additional modes of transportation for residents and businesses, such as the construction of a new Metra Station, which is currently in the engineering phase. This station will be located on 135th Street near New Avenue. Progress also continues for a new interchange at Airport Road and I-55 to address future needs along the Weber Road Corridor.

omeoville offers a diverse selection of cultural events and entertainment. Throughout the year, residents and visitors are invited to attend a variety of carnivals, firework displays, arts & crafts shows as well as several annual favorites.
Families enjoy summertime park parties, a concert series and movies under the stars at Deer Crossing Park & Amphitheatre, while car enthusiasts pack the lot at Town Hall Drive and Phelps Avenue for the annual Car Show each June. The community’s signature end-ofsummer event, RomeoFest, draws around 50,000 guests and features outstanding fireworks and a variety of family entertainment.
Sports enthusiasts enjoy excellent recreation activities at Brunswick Zone, Canlan’s Ice Center and one of Chicagoland’s premier golf courses – Mistwood Golf Club. Visitors can find Isle a la Cache Museum along the Illinois & Michigan Canal Heritage Corridor. Past and present come together in vibrant displays including tools, weapons, beaver pelts and period artifacts. Individuals who

enjoy the performing arts should visit Lewis University, home of the Phillip Lynch Theater. enjoy an affordable night of family entertainment watching the 2011 Frontier League Champions, the Joliet Slammers. Harrah’s Joliet Casino & Hotel and Hollywood Casino are located within 10 miles of the community. Concerts, motorsports and more occur regularly at the Route 66 Raceway. Proximity to the City of Chicago also offers great access to cultural and art events.

Education
A
resident can obtain the full range of education, from early childhood to a prestigious doctoral degree, without ever leaving Romeoville.
Romeoville’s youth attend four highly regarded school districts – Valley View Consolidated Unit District 365U, Plainfield School District 202, Lockport Township High School District 205 and Richland Grade School 88A. Five elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school are located within the village boundaries. Additionally, two private schools are within the corporate limits: Bible

Baptist Christian Academy and St. Andrew Catholic School. Lewis University, founded in 1932, has grown from a small technical school into a mid-sized campus of about 6,600 students. The Lewis main campus is a picturesque 376-acre suburban setting which houses 1,000 students in 11 residence halls. Lewis offers over 60 undergraduate majors at its main campus, as well as 14 graduate programs, and degree completion programs for working adults
The North Campus of Joliet Junior College, America’s oldest public community college, is located just off of Weber Road on 135th Street and has over 4,000 students. To meet the growing needs of the campus, expansion plans are already underway with completion anticipated for 2016. The construction plan calls for additional space for academic programs and student development services to respond to this growth. The new expansion will
include additional computer labs, new biology, anatomy and physiology labs. Rasmussen College, as a regionally accredited college, offers programs designed to help you graduate in as little as 9, 12 or 18 months so you can start or advance your career quicker. To meet the area needs, Rasmussen continues to offer a variety of careerfocused programs including the new School of Nursing program.

Healthcare
A
rea medical facilities include Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet, Edward Hospital in Naperville and Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital. These state-of-the-art facilities are expertly staffed and provide a variety of services in emergency treatment and specialized healthcare prevention. Specific treatment programs offered are wellness, physical therapy and prenatal care. Romeoville is home to a pool of talented healthcare professionals including physicians, optometrists and dentists. Along with area hospitals, local clinics and those in neighboring communities, specialized care for such needs as obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, podiatry and chiropractic care are never far away.

& Recreation
T
he award-winning Romeoville Recreation Department exists to provide quality recreational services to all age groups in the community through a diversified selection of classes, programs, athletic leagues and community events. Toddlers to senior citizens can find an activity or event that will suit their needs. Offering over 30 special events, 29 parks and recreational areas, and many FREE events for families including summer Movies in the Park and Park Parties, the Rockin’ the Ville concert series, a four-day festival called RomeoFest, Santa visits at the Winter Wonderland event and a Glow-in theDark Egg Hunt in spring. The Recreation Department continues to add and improve to its wide variety of leisure time activities that are offered to the residents and surrounding communities. The hub of community leisure time activities takes place at Village Park, which features the 55,000-square-foot Recreation Center, four baseball diamonds (one lighted baseball diamond), one lighted football field, lighted tennis courts, playgrounds, a
picnic pavilion, horseshoe pits, a concession stand and an open recreational space. The Recreation Center, recipient of the Illinois Park and Recreation Association’s 2002 Outstanding Facility of the Year Award and 2013 Exceptional Workplace Award, houses the 3,000-square-foot Fit-4-Life Fitness Center, which overlooks beautiful Village Park. Fitness center amenities include state-of-the-art equipment, a free weight area, stretching area and locker rooms.
The newest recreation amenity is the Romeoville athletic and event center. This 76,000-square-foot facility provides unique opportunities to the vast and growing sports market. It offers two indoor soccer fields and two IHSA basketball courts/volleyball courts, and six portable IHSA basketball courts for large tournament needs.
